Do you know if there's a sell on clause annis?
Not sure if can be done with academy players but bloody hope so

Apparently we could not as this is all in compensation package due to his age and No first team appearances.

Thanks, I hought that would be the case, bent over again by the bigger clubs. Rules need changing on this pal

Yes the bigger clubs are dictating everything.

In respects to throwing him in the team.

I feel the club has a responsibility to protect someone aged 16.

I understand there are a few lads who have broken through at that age but it all depends on their own growth to a grown ass man.

If the lad still is a few years off growing, it would be wrong to throw them in to play against 29 year old blokes.

Now we are getting 500k maybe the academy does serve it purpose.

Could see this coming. Been saying for a while to get them on the bench to get a higher fee.
Its wrong that we put so much time and effort into future of the club and this happens.
They should have to have a 50% sell on ontop of compo. Its the fairest way.

A be pity we’ve never been seeing some play for us and really make the grade after 13 yrs.

We’ve produced so much garbage for years now.

Yes I can see £1.5mill between two players finally come in after 13 yrs

Not the clubs fault we see “garbage” come through, if this ruling didnt exist we would have rabbie matondo, charlie crew, gabriel biancheri all coming through and wearing a city shirt. Instead they were poached, not the clubs fault

Sell on clause is a must with any youngster leaving as the bigger clubs do it to us.

How many of these players are currently playing regularly in the Premiership or even the Championship?
Just curious

And any others from the last 12-13 years??

Matondo and rangers and played for wales, he definitely would have been better off staying at city and breaking through and i think he would have been championship quality at least. Biancheri and crew and benjymen now are all too young to know but seems the academy is seeing good results now and last few years but i agree before that we saw nothing come through since ramsey, ledley etc

I have for one, love local players to make it and we have the whole of South Wales to chose from, we should at least get two coming through every year with our catchment area.

I agree mate massive area of talent and welsh football is booming at the moment for grassroots and the young generation coming through more than ever i believe due to the faw running things well and the national side doing well, if cardiff and swansea were in the top flight it would boom even more.

A mate of mine who is a coach at grassroots level who has connections through there told me that swansea city academy u8s have got a cracking little side, went up to manchester united and beat them apparently, and one of them boys has just been signed by man city and they have re located the family up there and only 8. Little example of the talent in wales

Can’t stand the big clubs stealing youth players for next to nothing, there should be a clause that would financially compensates us whenever a transfer fee is involved or if he makes it to the first team.

He's from Tremorfa. Actually got sold for 75k aswell

The ones I can think off are Lockyer, Luton and Wales,Andrew Hughes,Preston, Cubango Swansea and Wales,Ajayi WBA,Matondo Rangers and Wales and the biggest mistake although he was only given trial with our Academy Jason Bowen West Ham and England. My Grandson is in our Academy and they seem very well organised and are the coaches say we are looking at being an Category 1 Academy once the Llanrumney complex is completed. His team have already had the double over Arsenal and Southampton, also wins against Swansea,Reading,Coventry,QPR,Birmingham, drew against Manchester City and Wolves away. Lost narrowly away to Chelsea, playing Leicester and Liverpool away this week and Aston Villa at home a week Sunday. I wish our first team could get these sort of results!
Obviously as they get older the Premier League clubs are buying all the best talent which is completely wrong but hopefully if we get a Category 1 Academy this will stop and we will get our local talent coming through to the first team!

Am I right in thinking that if we are Cat 1 they can’t be poached by the big clubs ? Because if that’s the case then we need to invest in that as soon as the new facility is open.

Also, I believe the category is dependant on a certain level of investment every year, is that right ?

That’s my understanding! I’ve been told that it costs £3m/ year investment to retain a Category1 Academy once your facilities have been approved.

Thanks, that’s lot of money for non-Prem clubs.

Seems a bit unfair, the big clubs get all the advantages. I can understand the facilities needing to be at a certain level but a set level of investment hardly encourages efficiency!!!!!
