Our bench looks a stronger team

I understand it's just pre season and it's clear that SM is looking to change our style of play but the CB pairing of Nelson and Mcguinness look like a partnership searching for an accident and they found one.

Both are what I call head it, block it and kick it CB are equally useless at playing the ball out from the back. Again both lack concentration hence the Cheltenham goal. I hope this lad Kipre can fill one of these positions.

On that first half performance the only two players who looked like getting close to the second half team would be Sang and Collins.

Apart from Wintle and maybe Collins I think we were looking at our reserves there.

For me Nelson is a League 1 defender, Harris is not a lone striker. King and Sang will go out on loan, White will leave.

Harris is a bench player, Davies when fit is a better player for me.

60th min:

A new XI for Cardiff now - Phillips; Campbell, Ng, Kipre, Bagan; Sawyers, Rinomhota, Ralls; Ojo, Watters, O'Dowda

Watters has a free header but he can't get enough power on it. Easily gathered.

Re: ‘ CHELTENHAM TOWN v CARDIFF CITY ‘

Sat Jul 16, 2022 3:32 pm

Sawyers plays a nice give-and-go with O'Dowda in the box before firing in at the near-post. Palmed away for a corner and Cardiff come back again, but Kipre's effort on the edge of the area is high and wide.

Bagan nearly caught out there, but his header back just about makes it to Phillips with May lurking.

Plenty of good ideas but execution of moves a bit out... especially ojo played number of missed passes today

First 60min was poor.

The new team show glimpses but look like a group who haven't played together and are rusty.

Ojo given the ball away four times.

Still not drawing out a save from cheltenham very poor upfront strikers
can't come quick enough

Phillips forced to head clear on the edge of his box as the hosts probe.

Ojo then leads Cardiff down the left, before it's worked into Ralls, but his ball across is blocked and the hosts eventually win a throw.

Well that equates to the most expensive pair of tickets I have ever bought! :( :D

That said, what a great weekend and the Bluebirds are showing promise. I think we need to give them a bit of time to gel but the signs are looking good.

As has been stated on this board many times.....the glaring hole is an out and out striker. Watters has glimpses of promise but I can't see him knocking in 15+ goals in a season. If we can fill that gap with 1 or 2 proven goalscorers I can see us pushing for a top 6 spot. :bluebird:

Poor first half, dont seem to have many characters on the pitch, someone who can lift us when needed but some quality on show for sure. Watters was ok but I could have put that away. Better second half though gave ball away a few times. Morison shows very little enthusiasm on the sidelines and disappointed to see only Ralls and ODowda come over at the end. :bluebird:
