Be interesting how they go about next season???

It's theboddity of Abramovic, Annis. He certainly seems to have had Chelski's best interests at heart...

His politics, I know little about, so won't comment

He’s the the guy who nominated Putin as Yeltsin’s successor and then conducted cabinet interviews on his behalf! Deserves everything he gets even if he seems to have backed off in recent years

Clearly there are 'ties' but to what extent seems to be shrouded in some secrecy (in true Russian style) and I was always under tge impression he (Roman) was a Yeltsin protoge?

Either way, I agree with the sanctions on any/all of the so called Oligarchs until the Ukraine situation is resolved positively

My point to Annis was agreeing that Abramovic cannot be seen as a negative influence on Chelski FC, if he was poughing £90m in per annum to keep them at the top; although some are trying now to use it against him/them

His politics I'll leave to other 'experts' who seemingly know a lot more than me on that subjrct (or maybe not) :thumbright:

So do away ticket sales monies go to the away club ? I always thought they went to the home club.

They do.

Who said the away club would keep the money?

A Government personal has been put in charge of it all.

Ah, right sorry didn’t know that government bit.

Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK government as part of its response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

He is one of seven oligarchs to be hit with fresh sanctions, including asset freezes and travel bans.

The list also includes billionaires Igor Sechin and Oleg Deripaska, both seen as allies of Vladimir Putin.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said "there can be no safe havens" for those who have supported the invasion.

Chelsea FC cannot sell any more tickets for games, its merchandise shop will be closed, and it will be unable to buy or sell players on the transfer market.

The government said it would issue a special licence that allows fixtures to be fulfilled, staff to be paid and existing ticket holders to attend matches.

Ministers have come under pressure to sanction Mr Abramovich, who said he had made the "difficult decision" to sell Chelsea FC earlier this month.

The football club is among the assets frozen as part of the sanctions against Mr Abramovich and its sale has now been stalled.

Think if I was a Chelsea fan I would be embarrassed to be seen wearing a Chelsea these days particularly after Burnley.

This is slightly concerning that our government now decides what happens at a football club

What exactly has Abramovich or Chelsea done differently yesterday than four weeks, for months or a decade ago ?

The owner is an associate of the Russian premier. Last time I looked Putin was democratically elected :) , but he was  In the same way he has always been elected. I believe Putin has met the Royals, the prime minister and other establishment figures, was a member of the G8/G20, so he was cosher. Correct ?

Then Putin invades his neighbour and Abramovich is sanctioned and Chelsea are in limbo.

So if Putin hadn't invaded Ukraine then RA would still be the owner of Chelsea and Newcastle fans would be able to buy ticket for the game and a kid could buy a Chelsea top from the club shop as well as sports direct.

Its great we have such moral stalwarts like the owners of Citeh and the Geordies to fall back on. How did their elections pan out ? Whats their countries Diversity, equality and inclusion laws like.

I got chased all the way down Ninian Park road in 84, i have no soft spot for Chelsea, but this virtue signalling is crazy.

Putin may have been elected but it’s the oligarchs who decide who remains/gets into power. Keep the oligarchs happy and you can rule however you like with little consequence.

Sanctioning RA, who has nothing to do with the Ukraine situation (apart from his companies allegedly helping make weapons for the Russian army), also puts pressure on Putin. The same way Netflix, Coca Cola, McDonald’s, etc refusing to do business in Russia does, it doesn’t directly affect Putin but puts pressure on him.

It’s a heavy handed approach but the intent is to turn the people that prop him up against him.

Be an interesting stat, the amount of oligarchs who have gone against Putin and survived. He controls the Police, military, province governors and importantly the KGB.

For me its the Generals or even modernizers in the KGB who may tap mad Vlad on the shoulder and suggest he steps down for health reasons.

Sanctions will start to bite, I doubt it was meant to be in leafy West London though.

Chelsea fans chanting and display a flag with the Roman empire on it.
Newcastle fans display Saudi flag day after 81 executions.
Football gone mad. It's full of dirty money

Yep, I agree with that.

Football really needs to be careful on this because there is a huge amount of money invested by some dubious organisations/regimes.

That said, a full scale invasion bombing indiscriminately is somewhat more worrying that targeted executions. I strongly disagree with both but this war, and yes Mr Putin that's exactly what it is !, is on a different level both for the Ukraine and, in the future, for world security.
