Glad it's finally sorted, but frustrated with the amount he has cost us and basically stopped us from bringing in someone of the quality we've clearly needed this year. Has to go down as one of the worst signings the club has made not because of his skill but his attitude.

If this has been going on for a few weeks (or how ever) and there has been a clear power struggle between Tomlin and MM, I wonder how much of an impact this has been having on the first team and its performances ?

Could it be that this was sorted last week hence the performance was better on Saturday (just not the result) and there will now be a bit harmony between players and management and that’s why MM has come out and said he is fully backed by the board ?

Until mick stops putting so many defensive players in the starting 11 and putting square pegs in round holes, we arnt going to improve.

Funny says he was always injured:

Paraded in his Instagram

COSTING OUR CLUB

Gone and forgotten
It's a real shame he always got injured otherwise he could've had a great career with us.
It's now a weight of the clubs shoulders really as he is rarely seen at our club and seems less interested to comeback or get involved in the club in any way.

But we aren't really saving any money in wages regarding Tomlin we will just have paid him up front to leave. If he was say due about £640,000 between now and the end of the season we may have offered him I am guessing anywhere between £250,000 and £500,000 to leave now. We are saving a bit but it won't be very much. Still glad to see the back of the waste of space.

You have hit the nail on the head. We will have been lucky to have got away with 50% of his wages.

Wasted talent, shame really as he's clearly got it but seems to have wrong attitude looking from the outside. I wouldn't be surprised if his next club is Peterborough

What a total waste of talent. I bet he gets fit enough to find another club, and get a contract. Plays a handful of games, one of them against us and scores. Then disappears back to the well paid injury list, laughing his ass off.

Another sad story a player who on his day was a class player very skillful but he is a bad egg glad he is gone surely we can not replace him with a strong midfielder.

Will all that is happening we cannot blame Moore leaving if a fair offer is in for him

There’s no way he would have left unless his contract was more or less paid up? Another great purchase by Warnock cost us millions! Harris was the only Manager who got him playing and if he had played in the playoffs against Fulham perhaps we would have now been in the Premier League!

How exactly?? I'm really not sure I understand. Out of contract players add to numbers at least and are better than no players at all.

And, you may think, wrongly, I am many things, but I never waiver from my principles.

I'm not questioning your principles; but you have previously stated (in the majority of posts) that VT has given up, is winding us down and doesn't care

I'm not saying he does or doesn't but you've banged that drum for so long it makes your post (shall we say) a break from tradition

My own opinion (based on little or no info) is we'll see it out until the transfer window and recall some of those out on loan. One or two would make a difference but if we are still 'in trouble' then the purse strings might have to open up for fresh blood

Big Interview: Bristol City’s Lee Tomlin

11 November 2016

By Chris Dunlavy

YOU know Lee Tomlin right? Fat lad, bad attitude, once skinned Vincent Kompany but blew his big chance in the Premier League.

“Yeah, that sounds about right,” laughs the Bristol City playmaker when presented with the accusations that regularly bookend the sentence ‘Lee Tomlin, great player but…’

By his own admission, Tomlin is no angel and has an attitude problem . A career littered with red and yellow cards is testament to that. On-field bust-ups. Dressing room spats. Lengthy bans.

“I’ve heard it all,” admits Tomlin, now 27. “But I’ve always said that once you work with me, you’ll see I’m not a bad person. I think a lot of people misunderstand me. I play on the edge – always have – and that’s how I get the best out of myself.

“In the past, I’d channel it badly. When people brought me down, I’d get frustrated, lash out. But if you look at my record, I haven’t been sent off for a couple of years now.

“I’ve learnt from my past mistakes and I have grown up and my attitude is now the right on.”

“I try not to get as annoyed. I try to see it as a positive – if they’re fouling me, it’s because they’re scared of me.

“At the start of the season, I was getting smashed. Refs would be saying ‘Play on, he didn’t touch you’. I’ve had cards for diving, despite the fact somebody’s basically stood on the middle of my shin.

“When I was younger, that would have been a red rag. Now, I think ‘Let it go… get the ball and keep hurting them’. Lee Johnson, the gaffer here, has been really good with that. He always says that the best thing I can do is shrug it off and enjoy beating people.”

Then, of course, there are the various pictures showing Tomlin looking less than trim, gut apparently bulging over his waistband.

“Yeah, that’s the other thing that always gets questioned,” sighs the former Middlesbrough and Bournemouth forward. “But you can do any test you want – my body fat is low. I’m quite short and I’ve got low ribs that stick out. From a side angle, it looks like I’m fat. But ask anyone I’ve played with and they’ll tell you it’s just not true.

Jonathan Woodgate: ‘Massive’ for Lee Tomlin (Picture: Action Images)
“When I was at Middlesbrough, I remember Jonathan Woodgate going ‘Hey fatty, take your top off’. When I did he’d say ‘Wow, look at that’ – he knew all along that I wasn’t fat and it was his way of letting me know.”

For Tomlin, who left the Riverside in 2015, ex-Real Madrid and England defender Woodgate remains a friend and mentor.

“Woody was massive for me,” he adds. “He told me not to listen to the critics, to the people who said I was wrong and tried to change my game. I can’t thank him enough.

“For everything he’s done in football and all the clubs he’s played for, he’s the most down-to-earth, genuine person you could ever meet.

“He still rings me and he’s always saying ‘You should be doing this or that’. A lot of the time you get close to someone but you stop playing together and that’s it. With Woody, he’s still taking an interest and looking out for me.”

Bad boy Lee Tomlin

Posh live

Former Boro schemer Lee Tomlin has been rattling up some eye-catching red card stats at Peterborough.

He returned to Posh from Cardiff in January and has picked up where he left off at London Road with an early exit in the 1-0 defeat to Plymouth.

He was sent off after picking up a second yellow for a needless push in a bit of hand-bags.

“Lee shouldn’t have got involved,” said new boss Darren Ferguson said. “I could see what he was trying to do. He was separating Ivan Toney from a defender, but why give the referee a decision to make?

"The defender went down as though he’d been struck by a hammer."

“Lee needs to calm down and when he does you will see a real a catching player out there.”

FAT BOY TOMLIN

Lee Tomlin was almost two stone overweight ... now the Boro star is out to devour Arsenal

@Matt_Lawton_DM

By MATT LAWTON Chief Sports Reporter13 Feb 2015

LEE TOMLIN would be the first to admit he has gone dangerously close to blowing his career. The Middlesbrough forward had a rather poor attitude and was kicked out of Leicester City — he was even sent out on loan by Rushden and Diamonds.

‘I was playing for Brackley Town with team-mates who were carpenters and police officers,’ he says. ‘At that stage I did think it was over.’

“ I have changed and now have the right attitude, that’s needed, I know I was a bad boy, with the wrong attitude.”

He quit football after being released by Leicester, albeit only for a few months. And a minor brush with the law, for celebrating promotion with Peterborough a little too enthusiastically, did not enhance his chances of fulfilling his potential. Nor did a taste for fast food that saw him balloon in weight.

Yet here he is in the hotel next to Middlesbrough’s training ground, slim and athletic and talking as candidly about his past as he does passionately about his future. Talking in a way that left me thinking he might be the hungriest footballer I’ve encountered. He seems driven by a fear, having already wasted opportunities, of not now making it big.

When he came up against Manchester City in the FA Cup last month, his biggest game to date, he was awestruck at first.

‘I was looking at Silva and Aguero and thinking, “What’s someone like me doing on a pitch with players like that?” It was unbelievable.

‘While you’re on the pitch you have to concentrate on your r job. I was marking James Milner but I kept finding myself watching David Silva. I was looking at his positioning and trying to learn what’s required to get to the top.’

He learned fast. The 26- year- old was the outstanding player in a match Boro won in style. His manager, Aitor Karanka, pulled him to one side at the end. ‘Now do you believe you can play at this level?’ he asked.

Karanka considers Tomlin, a natural No 10 with two great t feet and a burst of pace, as thee finest player in the Championship, a view endorsed by the recent player- of-the-monthh award.

But the journey to this point nt has been a difficult one.

Liverpool offered him a trial al 10 years ago, but he is stillll waiting to hear how he did.

Some members of his is extended family are Travellers ers but he grew up in a council house in a tough neighbourhood in Leicester.

Ex Bournemouth player Lee Tomlin in court

Lee Tomlin and Billy Kee arrive at court

Former Bristol City and AFC Bournemouth midfielder Lee Tomlin has been convicted for his part in a fight in Leicester city centre that left a man with a broken jaw.

The 28-year-old, who now plays for Cardiff City, admitted affray following the incident which took place outside the Ghost nightclub in Leicester on January 22.

Accrington Stanley striker Billy Kee, 26, also pleaded guilty to common assault after being captured throwing a punch on CCTV.

Tomlin was handed a 12 month community order and ordered to pay £500 in costs, while Kee was fined £350.

Tomlin who had a shining career ahead of him, left Bournemouth under controversial circumstances after a number of altercations with other members of staff.

As reported by the Leicester Mercury, Prosecutors decided not to proceed with a charge of wounding after a review of footage found that the victim had squared up to both players after jumping over a set of railings.

Leicester Crown Court was told that Kee had attempted to pull his friend Tomlin away from the confrontation in the city centre.

Both players had been accused of causing grievous bodily harm but were cleared of the charge on the orders of the judge.

Prosecutor Ian Way accepted that the complainant - who spent three days in hospital and had a metal plate inserted to stabilise a displaced jaw fracture - had "contributed" to what happened.

CCTV clips presented to the court showed Kee trying to pull Tomlin away from the scene before throwing a single punch towards the victim's head.

Tomlin struck out twice at the victim during a subsequent fracas in which a bystander removed his belt, Mr Way said.

Mr Way told the court: "At about 3.30am the complainant and his friend went outside the club to the smoking area, which is near a waist-high set of railings.

"At that point they went over the fence and met face to face with the defendants and their group.

"There was an argument and the next thing (the victim) remembers is a heavy blow."

Judge Ebraham Mooncey told the footballers: "The position is that on the night that we are considering both of you had been out for the evening.

"You accept that you were drinking. You (Tomlin) are fearful your drinks may have been interfered with."

The judge said of the events filmed near and outside the club: "There is conversation taking place and it's apparent very quickly that it's not pleasant conversation.

"Both of you don't appear to be completely sober."

Former Middlesbrough forward Tomlin and Kee both began their careers in Leicester City's youth set-up.

Tomlin's lawyer, Chris Daw QC, said the player had received verbal abuse inside the nightclub.

"He deeply regrets having become involved at all," the barrister told the court.

"He has learned a very stark lesson."
