OK the club didn't handle his release well but running off and moaning to the press is pretty poor especially as many Cardiff fans are losing their jobs at the moment due to Covid and haven't got millions of £'s to fall back on like well paid professional footballers have.

That might be true but this about Sol Bamba who has had a very long and good professional career.

In that case I agree with you. Sol Bamba has had a very long and lucrative career and then cries to the newspapers. As you point out this is in contrast to young footballers who's careers are over before they even start. He should be grateful for what he has had instead moaning about what he hasn't been offered.

Everyone reacts in a different way and Sol is hurt.

I have met Sol on numerous occasions and I have found him nothing but a true Gentleman.

Also my mate did a lot of work for him and got to know him and he said he has never met such an honest and nicer guy.

Remember Bennett is still hopeful. Hmmmm?

Without doubt things could have been handled better. But at the end of the day the club is bigger than any player. The Board made a proper financial decision which had the wellbeing of CCFC at it's heart and I agree with the decision.

I have seen many people lose their jobs due to ill health. There are very few employers who will pay employees a substantial salary just because they have had a serious illness. The employer will stick to the terms of the employment contract but once that has expired they won't be charitable due to sentiment.

Footballers are no different and frankly should be grateful that they have earned fabulous money to help them through periods like this. Someone on national minimum wage wouldn't have that luxury if they fell ill.

A very balanced and truthful post tony.its a steange post tbf, as you say, he has earned fantastic money with us, and he wanted to still play, the club had decided( and i dare say a lot from MM,regarding him playing no more than a bit part on the pitch this season) they couldnt offee him any guarantees on that score!
I wanted us to keep him on at 1st, due to mostly sentimental reasons, but it is clear MM didnt see him as being needed on the coaching side either.
I and no doubt most others, wish SOL nothing but the very best in his future in football, sadly its not with us, I do agree though, he says he isnt moaning/complaining, but he is.
We move on, and so does SOL good luck to him.

IF what Sol says is true (and I use the word IF) then it is poor and he should never have been allowed to find out that way. However in the bigger picture, it looks like it was Mick that didn’t want to keep him from that report when the club had planned to. The manager should have the discussion first and foremost.

However if the club did want to keep him as a coach but didn’t on MM’s say so then it is pretty short sighted as MM won’t be here for more than a couple of years and so the board should have over ridden that decision.

Interesting article in the Times this morning about how Brentford don’t give their manager ANY say he who comes and goes - which helps with continuity as managerial appointments average 14 months.

A lot of harsh and unthinking comments on here today...

Just remember that Sol (and the club alluded to it) was told he was 'wanted' and that they would 'sort something out' going forward

Having been given such encouragement/assurances and having gone through what he did, it waa not unrealistic for a fantastic servant to our club to be given a certain courtesy of letting him know he was no longer required and/or why that was suddenly the case...

Maybe the club will clarify the situation (it's sure to come up in the next pre-match Press Conference) but somehow I doubt they will want to get involved for the obvious reason, i.e. Sol is right in his comment

For me, in any walk of life, not to face someone with your reasoning for your decision-making is neither good nor professional

But we are not talking about just any player , we are talking about a player he who went to hell and back and was promised so much and then was not even told had to read it on Twitter .
Life is more important than our club or money.

I have just looked at my fb and there are now over 400 replies and only two disagreeing , they all can’t be wrong.

From what Sol has said it looks like the whole situation was badly handled by the Club. A bit more honesty and better communication from the Club and I think Sol could have accepted the situation. To find out by Twitter must have been heartbreaking for him.
It doesn't look good on the Club at all, the way this has been handled. Shocking really.

I personally have fought cancer and other life threatening illnesses over the years. It has affected my job prospects and definitely dented my wealth prospects but that wasn't the fault of my employer, it was just really bad luck.

I accepted my situation and got on with my life, although I didn't have the luxury of being a multi-millionaire to cushion the blow and I didn't slag off my ex-employers in the press.

I would accept this could have been handled better if the version we have been given by Sol is true and accurate.

However, the 400 people you speak about on Facebook haven't heard the other side of the story from the club, nor have I. Until we do we can't really judge how badly (or well) this situation was handled.

As I have said before Sol Bamba earned a very good living whilst he was at CCFC he should be grateful for that, because frankly having been in his position health wise I find self indulgent that he is crying about it in the press.

And the 400 people on Facebook are always very keen to slate the current management of the club whether it is fair or not.

It’s a small sample size of the club’s fan base.

Your going to another low now Neil regarding Sol Bamba.

Actually I only usually get about 20 comments on the links I do, this is an all time record.

It’s actually now over 700 and that’s just on my groups.

What we dont know is if the club tried to contact him.
A players holiday wont change the timing of the club releasing their retained list, so its possible he had a few missed calls or emails asking him to contact the club. In all likelihood he knew when the announcement would be made, and he obviously wasn't checking his phone and if he was that concerned did he chase it up himself with the club.

Is this a joke a few missed emails and phone calls , you could not make it up.
Sol 1000% would of then contacted them back.
I just spoke to a man who did work for Sol while he was away and he was able to contact him every day, I’m sure Sol would of soon noticed .

Re: ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING / HEARTBREAKING BY CARDIFF COMMITTEE

He deserved so much better considering his commitment on the park and his circumstances off it .
Seems he has higher morals than our club.
Even if he knew he wasn’t going to be retained, a simple phone call would have been the minimum way of dealing with it .
There is room for sentiment in football in this case ....and that would have been shown by releasing him in a professional manner .
Makes our club look bad yet again.

How am I going to a new low?

I’m not the one dragging the club’s name through the mud constantly.

I’ve not said anything against Sol. Said at the start he should have been told.

But we only have one side of the story.

But as usual the ‘usual suspects’ have tried, found guilty, hung, drawn and quartered the club.

You know what is shit treatment Annis? Owner of a club telling a bus load of Cardiff fans the manager was getting sacked before the manager was told.

Whether it's football, banking or manual trade, irrespective of who he is, what he's had etc etc, it's a common courtesy thing. A decency thing.

Personally, I believe he should have Been treated better, and so should any player being released from any club. A meeting to give the news is basic manners.
