Harry Wilson speaks out on £10mill Fulham move and Liverpool regret

Tuesday 10th August 2021

Former Cardiff City star Harry Wilson says he's made the right decision in finally calling time on his Liverpool career, but admits he's disappointed with how it panned out.

The Wales international recently completed a move to Fulham in a deal which could be worth around £10m after another summer of speculation, with Cardiff among those believed to have been keen on taking him on.

Wilson marked his move to west London with a debut goal on the opening day of the new season, and believes the time was right for him to end his 16-year stint on Merseyside.

HARRY WILSON:

“I wouldn’t say it was an easy thing to do, but it is definitely the right thing for me," he told Goal. "I know I’ve made the right decision.

"Obviously from my point of view I feel a little disappointed I didn’t get more opportunities. And yeah, there were players around who maybe got a few more than I did.

“I am a bit gutted that I wasn’t given maybe half a season at least to prove I deserved to be part of that group.

"I’m sad to leave Liverpool, yes, but there’s so much to look forward to with Fulham. I can’t wait."

Wilson says Marco Silva was a huge part of convincing him to make the move to the English capital, and reveals he spoke with the manager earlier in the summer following his time with Wales at Euro 2020.

“When you move clubs, it has to be the manager who wants you. The owners and the chief executive, whoever, might like you, but the manager is the one picking the team every weekend. He’s the one that matters.

“In this deal, I feel like it was the manager who drove it forward. When I was on my holidays after the Euros, he was ringing me up. I felt like he’d watched me, that he understood my game. He told me the positions I’d play in his team, how he’d want me to play, and I felt like it’d be a great fit.”

Until there is a new direction at the top and investment to change the way we play, this is where we will be for a long time.

We have seen it under Slade and are about to see it under MM.

As for coming under the Berjaya group :

BCorp said Jalil’s mandate will be to re-look at BCorp’s corporate structure, optimize financial and human resources, improve synergies and efficiency, enhance corporate governance and transparency, streamline the various Group businesses to create and enhance shareholder value and to transform BCorp into a high performing organisation.

If that does not worry fans , well nothing will.

ENHANCE SHAREHOLDER VALUE!!!!

One easy way for Tan to move out and save face in my opinion.

True that neither manager got the best of Wilson, he’s a very decent champship player as he proved with at spell at Derby.
He’s worth 10mill if he starts get goals again and they go up so time will tell.
But we do need more creativity in the side which is so obvious to all of us except the managers ....Harris was the worst since Slade for bs and telling we were playing well when we were dire.
Will decide about McCarthy after 10 games or so which should give us a good idea of the season.
For me , this is one the weakest championships I can remember so we have to be looking at top 6 and to do that we need creative players .

I think that Harry Wilson will be a much more effective player with Fulham and they've got a good deal. It's sad that we don't seem to be trying to build a more exciting midfield, but still working with the main aim of trying not to concede goals. It horrifies me that Bacuna is now seen as our attacking midfielder. I was hoping for more.
