But he played half hour v Newport which sort of shows that MM was ready to at least start him on the bench he and then held his hamstring and limped off.

Well, well, that's a strange one. I was just behind the home dugout for the Newport match and at the final whistle he made his way all the around the the touchline from the Bob Bank side via the Canton End and passing me, applauding the fans all the way and we were all applauding him. When this "holding the hamstring and limping off" occured is an almighty mystery to me!

it was definitely mentioned by a number of posters here that he was limping by the end and McCarthy mentioned in his press conference that there was a problem with Tomlin at the end and the player had actually told the manager that it was his hamstring.

Here you go (I should have been more specific, I meant limped off at the end).

Lee Tomlin gives Cardiff City boss Mick McCarthy worrying news after pre-season win

McCarthy admits he already has concerns over the fitness of the playmaker

With the departure of Harry Wilson, City need a player like Tomlin, Tomlin came on in the 61st min by the 85th min Tomlin was hobbling.

Tomlin has told McCarthy he has done his hamstring in.

Lee Tomlin could well be the latest injury concern for Cardiff City

Mick McCarthy says Lee Tomlin has a role to play in Cardiff City's upcoming season, but admits he already has concerns over the mercurial playmaker's fitness as another injury occurs.

The departure of Harry Wilson earlier in the summer means many have identified Tomlin as the the potential creative spark for the Bluebirds this season, and McCarthy seemingly agrees the 32-year old has the ability to make a big impact on his plans, but needs to get fitter.

However, with Tomlin spending nearly the whole of last season sidelined, the Yorkshireman clearly has concerns over keeping the former Bristol City man fit, and admits the forward could already be a doubt for Saturday's season opener with Barnsley.

MICK McCARTHY:

"I love the ability of Lee Tomlin," McCarthy said afterwards. "Like everybody else. You can see why. You can see why everyone's attracted to him.”

"But the key is keeping him fit and some how that is his problem.”

“ I've just spoken to him, and apparently he's done his hamstring, which

As I said and I've also read/heard what MM said but from the Ninian Stand right round to the players tunnel when he/we were applauding he did not hold his hamstring, nor did he limp. I think this is a case of someone reading/hearing what MM said post match and sub editing a story to give things a particular slant.

People do take liberties with message boards!
As an aside, seeing as you were not there, what surprised me about Saturday's return to hoof ball was that against Newport there was very little and I was expecting the same against Barnsley, oops expectation and realisation.

The guy in the seat next to me on Saturday, when we were making a substitution asked why do the coaches always get a flip chart out to indicate to the player what he's supposed to do, I said they just show them images of the sky at night and tell them "that's the sun, that's the moon" get that ball inbetween the two, gotta laugh aint ya?

I was there Saturday but not got the Newport game. Love the ‘sky at night’ tale.
Someone behind us made a comment after the Whittingham tribute saying ‘if we have a stand named after him how apt it would be for a Cardiff stand to be called ‘The Whitt’s End’. I had to chuckle.

Same this year we are going into a season with so little creativity it will hurt us bad this season

I wish I had a counter argument for this, but you’ve summed it up excellently.
