I looked online and it was 18k for Bristol City, 12k Preston , 11k Blackburn, 9k Stoke ( surely not right)
Can’t see a figure for QPR or Derby
the 9k Stoke crowd was in another thread and corrected..it was 19k.... all crowds were slightly down on pre lockdown averages....possibly ticketing issues { unable to ring ticket office } along with uncertainty { the late WAG announcement } effected ours .....
Yeah. It was misreported all round. Although on the highlights it looked like hardly anyone there - and there was also a decent following of away fans which would have boosted the numbers.
Most clubs - including us rely on season ticket numbers to boost attendances and out season tickets are well down on previous years.
There’s never more than a few thousand walk up.
Hopefully with the ticket office reopening we will sell a couple of thousand more. Could have done with the 3 points today or even an exciting performance.

Thought we could have tipped just over 20k. Maybe with the uncertainty over lifting restrictions meant people organised something else to do, and the weather would have affected walk ups.

only one way to convince fans to return and thats winning football, if we serve up what was on offer yesterday and are 14th come xmas , we will be lucky to get 10k.

When you see the size of Cardiff as a city I can never understand why we don’t get a least twenty five thousand per game Cardiff has always had good support from outside the city but if that support stop coming what would happen to our support then

It’s a legacy thing.. Sunderland spent many years in the top flight, and won the Cup in the 70s.
Ours was spending 20 years in the basement, and we’re awful to watch now. Cringeworthy on occasion.

Martin, We not only have the population of Cardiff, surrounding areas, but all the way to Hereford, The Valleys beyond, all the way to Bridgend, then our fantastic support down your way Port Talbot, Neath and past Swansea,
I will be brutally honest that was an awful first home crowd for 18months.

Ive had a look at some stats regarding our opening home Championship game attendances, at the start of every season at the CCS, with the exceptions of the two seasons played in the Premiership (2013/14 & 2018/19).
08/08/09 v Scunthorpe, 22,264.
08/08/10 v Sheffield Utd, 20,573.
14/08/11 v Bristol City, 22,639.
17/08/12 v Huddersfield, 21,127.
16/08/14 v Huddersfield, 20,749.
08/08/15 v Fulham, 15,429.
14/08/16 v QPR, 15,869.
12/08/17 v Aston Villa, 23,899.
10/08/19 v Luton Town, 24,724.
Bearing in mind that the Scunthorpe game was the first ever league game at the CCS, also the next two opening games ( Sheffield Utd and Bristol City) were played on a Sunday.
The dip in attendances (2015/16) were during the seasons that both Russell Slade and Paul Trollope were incharge, and the seasons starting 2014, and 2019 were just after relegation from the Premiership.
Make of this what you will, but it looks like were going to repeat history with regards to attendances, just like we did during the 2015/16, and the 2016/17 seasons. There are Many other influencing factors regarding attendances Im sure we do all know, but Id be interested with any feed back on this subject?

I think it’s going to take a long time for people to get back to normal.
Hit the nail on the head!
It'll take a while, but a lot more to return as the season progresses as long as the pandemic doesn't return big time again!
I bet many are sat at home until they feel it is safer to return.
Unfortunately, it may even take another year or so.

Other difference is they like Newcastle have kept their grass root supporter for whatever reason while city have lost their grass root support from the valleys as the working class supporters have gone with demise coal .... unless we can sustain a few yrs in premier league we will always have fair weather supporters just like majority of clubs have.

Look at the list of the clubs with the most seasons in the top division . these are clubs with the biggest support.

your certainly correct about the 10 clubs with the highest all time averages.. also being the 10 that have played the most top tier football
from 11 down it gets a bit more jumbled... Leeds are 11th but are only 25th for seasons in the top tier..

joined the league on the same day as ourselves.. and up until the early 60s we had similar records... our highest finish 2nd i think theirs was 5th.. we had won a cup they had not and our all time attendances were slightly higher...
the Revie era changed all of that and pushed them up a few levels...
