Well said too

indeed...should have stayed at home... been the only one to take a pay cut... accepted a contract 3 years ago for less than offered.. not run so hard to not get injured and maybe should have taken one of those offers he has previously turned down....

Well said Mike...

I remember a time where our supporters appreciated a player who did his job and gave his all...

And when all is said and done, a very charity-driven Joe Bennett was certainly one of those

20% or their pay missing? People got 80% didn’t they? Then hated it so much some didn’t want to go back

I’ve said we have fickle fans in the past.

He injured himself giving his all. We could never say he didn’t ever give his all.

I think his main trait when we conceded goals was to blame everyone else around him when he was clearly at fault on many of those occasions.

Maybe, but this is OUR club and we are (usually) better than that... ;) :bluebird:

I’m sort of glad he’s going.

It saves all the digs at the committee for the new contract if he doesn’t get back to where he was before.

He’d already decided to leave hence why he was talking to another club. He was a good player in his position and played to the best of his ability. He was one of ours and I wish him all the best.

Good to see the club trying to cut back stupid wages, times have changed and as I’ve said numerous times players will find it hard to get the money and contracts they once had.

Good luck to Joe and anyone else who leaves they are Bluebirds whatever.

I meant for not slating players for leaving not necessarily of their own choosing...

It was a lower than current offer by the club (rightly IMHO) that Joe rejected and so he moves on; unlike a certain 'home boy' who engineered his 'free' move when the club were in real dire straits...

He'll be replaced and we'll move on

Not having that about Lesley.

Club didn’t reward him when he was by far our best player and this at a time when Fowler and JFH were on daft money. They even offered a new deal to Fowler.

Ledley was only offered new terms as he got close to his expiring. He deserved more money well before especially as big offers were made.

Ridsdale was a very good spin man.

Agree with the Ridsdale bit but but not Ledley. My understanding was that an offer was made early but it was pretty much decided he wanted to leave for the Premier League after 'interest' was shown...

A matter of conjecture what was and/or wasn't offered during some very difficult times but what happened next was a matter of fact and Joe departed on a free (as was his right) to Scotland, leaving his 'beloved' City without even the minimal of compensation at a time they really needed it

We really needed it but also turned down offers from premier league teams so it was mismanagement. As occurred frequently in them days.

JFH turning up for pre season training and it costing us £150,000 wasn’t it?

I sort of agree but his legs seemed to have gone towards the end of the season. His value was in improving those around him a d you can’t deny he did that.

Ledley being one beneficiary.

No, I can't deny, Neil. I just liked him as a 'big' player at our club (same with Fowler) and he scored one of the best goals I've ever seen at home with his conning turn and left foited curl into the too left corner of the Canton Stand goal... :notworthy:

there were 2 years between Fowler and JFH leaving and all this Ledley stuff.... and he was offered the first of a number of contract extensions going back 12 months prior to him being out of contract.... he obviously thought he could do better or that his future lay elsewhere... did we offer enough ? was it even purely money ? only he knows that..

Haven’t said anything different. He was being paid a pittance in comparison to the then despite clearly being our best player the season they were here. (10 goals in 40 games). That got premier league interest when Cardiff started turning down big offers for him. That is when we should have given him a new contract to reflect his new value. Teams do it all the time.

We only saw the need when he was in his last 12 months. Too late by then.

Not sure
He currently lives in cowbridge

I would love nothing more than for Joe to stick around because I bet he would want to say goodbye with fans watching him next season.
And if he stays he can help out youngsters like Bagan.

Re: “ So Goodbye Joe Bennett? “

He's been a great player for us.

But, given his high salary, emergence of youngsters and a decent amount of cheaper and younger free transfers available in his position, I'm not too concerned.

Good luck to him.

We are on different sides of the fence here and I can’t be arsed going into the weeds.

We fucked up. Ledley left on a free. Our loss.

Had we offered him a good deal when he was an established member of the team (and when we were dishing out 25k deals to has been strikers) he more than likely would have signed. We delayed and lost him for nothing.

What club doesn't?

Maybe, but this is OUR club and we are (usually) better than that... ;) :bluebird:

Are we?

I’m sort of glad he’s going.

It saves all the digs at the committee for the new contract if he doesn’t get back to where he was before.

Ridsdale was a very good spin man.

there were 2 years between Fowler and JFH leaving and all this Ledley stuff.... and he was offered the first of a number of contract extensions going back 12 months prior to him being out of contract.... he obviously thought he could do better or that his future lay elsewhere... did we offer enough ? was it even purely money ? only he knows that..

Too late by then.

youve said you didnt say different then bounced straight to what players had been payed 2 years prior
the only hard offer was the day before the window closed 18 months prior to his departure...

We delayed and lost him for nothing.

like 99% of championship players who are courted by premier league clubs ,his head was turned , he wanted to go mate...i know he ended up in Scotland but that wasnt for a lack of prem interest.... .. as for the 25k deals they had gone years previously.... more than likely have signed is wishful thinking... no weeds just how football is

Interesting, Sam; and I know you have a relative who lives close by to Joe...

The only anomaly is that some wag reckoned his mats (I can't go through all that again) was moving him to Surrey?

Is the house in Cowbridge or Surrey? If the latter, maybe just for the Summer?

I was a little shocked he could get a deal elsewhere whilst injured...

Not sure
He currently lives in cowbridge

I would love nothing more than for Joe to stick around because I bet he would want to say goodbye with fans watching him next season.
And if he stays he can help out youngsters like Bagan.

Hes 100% moved out to London from his house in llanblethian ,the house was rented ,this is from someone that's very close to him ,
