Nathaniel Mendez-Laing's ruling states he had already been banned previously in the season, between Feb 7 and May 7, after returning a urine sample which was positive for a cocaine metabolite in December 2019. Was charged on April 21 and backdated to Feb 7 1/2

Ah that was when he was out for a while and we were told injured.

I’m glad they sacked him then.

Correct Neil,

I sort of out it out on here ages ago, but was told I was not allowed to say it was cocaine due to
Legal reasons.

Strange that as it was true.

They can’t sue someone if they are telling the truth.

Neil,

The EFL players lawyers stopped City from saying why they sacked him that’s why it’s taken so long .

I Knew but I gave my word, same as many other things I talk about on here .

He has a lifestyle most can only dream of,and as a free agent has no doubt earned a wedge of a signing on fee too from all this? Seems it has paid off, him breaching contract!! The club has acted correctly inho, set an example to any others who may think of steaying off the path.

Absolutely 62!
Good moral stance by the club. Shame Boro and other clubs didn’t think similarly.

The trauma of losing your job is devastating. No money coming in etc etc.

Losing your job when it is 100% your own fault.

Swanning off to Dubai a nice buffer.

Three months later given a new job.

Cushty.

Not interested in those that will defend saying issues yadda yadda.

Thousands of people losing their livelihoods at this time in particular.

Well done for booting this serial offender out. Caught twice and probably lucky it wasn't more.

Should be giving his wages to local charities.

His sample showed metabolites of cocaine on 09/12/2019 (provisionally suspended on 07/02/2020, formally suspended on 21/04/2020 and 3months were backdated to provisional date) and 04/07/2020.

That should help to explain why club dismissed him.

My eldest daughter was with Bells in Dubai and asked for a photo with Laing and he walked off, not knowing she was with Bells and Bells called him back and told him off big time.

If this was his first time I would have said the club is being way to hasty to rip up his contract. The fact he had done it before, was warned about it, and the club supported him by paying his wages, just shows what kind of person he is. I was big fan of NML, and Warnock for all he done while he was here, but I definitely have less respect for the player, and Warnock now for taking him on. Maybe I just feel it’s a bitter pill to swallow, with our former manager and player at another club.

No dude you are right NW knew and has sought out a player that has previous.

City absolutely did the right thing.

Trouble is neither Warnock nor the junkie show any shame, remorse or regret.

The money train rolls on.

Disgusting.

NML is a professional athlete and he abuses his only tool, himself......

He goes quite dramatically in and out of form. Every poor game and it will be "get the test tube out doc"....

Surprising to see "only I can sort him out" from me,me,me,me,me and me Warnock. The only thing important to Warnock is his records and legacy...Not the club nor the players.

Good decision from our club.

I doubt we could have sold him, surely Cardiff City or the EFL would have legally been required to inform them of his bans. I also doubt championship CEO's or chairman wouldn't have heard whispers or tip offs.

How much is he worth as an asset ? Very little IMO. I doubt he'll ever get better than a 12 month contract with options but lots of conditions and testing.

Shame, i liked him as a player.

For me people make mistakes. He’s a city player with a problem I for one wouldn’t have been more than happy to get behind and support as I do with all things city. Shame about you negativity. But each to they own opinion. Respect.

Why is it negativity? He was supported the 1st offence, then does it again! You will find im far from negative regards our club, but as you say,all a matter of opinions, but I know when I had a business,I would give everyone a 2nd chance, but if they committed same thing again, then sorry, gone!!

I totally understand the clubs stance and have no problem with it. Just you seem negative to me. I know you felt I’ve been negative in the the past when I wasn’t. And you were comfortable enough to express your opinion to me, and because of that I feel comfortable with you.

Like I said it’s all opinions nothing more no right or wrong view just different.

Sorry if I seem that way to you,but im really not, just as you say, opinions on this are different
not saying anyone is wrong either, but it seems the majority agree,he bad chances, and threw them in the clubs face, that in most professions is unacceptable, and usually ends the way it has.
As you say,all about opinion,no more, no less.

it was the correct decision , twice in one season.... but we didnt sack him the first time so its hypocritical then to knock whoever else signed him... taking drugs is either unacceptable or not.....

Very rarely does a club not stand by a player after 1st time it's not an uncommon thing.. but you wont find a club giving player a 2nd chance! If another club wants him thats their buisness again its happened numerous times to players sacked by club.... but what nobody can do and thats criticise ccfc for letting him go even if worth some money on transfer market.

its a real kick in the teeth for our club , but someone was always going to take the risk { havent read how much of a gamble boro have taken re how long a contract } .... personally i think the 2nd ban was lenient as the first ban should have cost him the rest of last season where it only cost him 7 games instead of 16 and he was only 4 games back before he fails another test..
really unfair...he gets 2 bans but we seem to be the party punished the most...

He was given a chance after the first time. Surely you’re not actually saying he should have been kept on after the second time !!??

Name another business where you’re getting £10k a week and you’d be kept on after the second offence ?

I hope he gets his act together but I’m glad it’s not costing us any more in wages whilst he decides what his priorities are.

By the way, not sure I’ve seen an apology to the club for letting them down?

Re: UPDATE:BBC says NML was banned for Cocaine and not just

Fri Feb 12, 2021 10:19 pm

I have no problem with anyone taking drugs, it is their choice and their free will to do so.

However, if you are governed by an employer, and contract, that states you cannot do that, it is a totally different ball game.

In this paticular case it was not just the employer, it was the sports governing body who bans these things, obviously because they can be deemed as sport enhancing and lead to an unlevel playing field.

If you make a mistake you should take the punishment, realise your error, and not f**k up again. To make the same mistake twice in the same season borders on stupidity, or even worse addiction.

How anyone can not back the club on their correct decision is absolutely beyond my comprehension. :bluebird:
