Only giving a 6 month contract makes me wonder if the views of the players were also taken into account when deciding to get rid of Harris.

Was the player/manager relationship beyond repair?

The appointment been made so I will back him 100%....he’s solid and an improvement on Harris...wonder what will be said if he get into or close to playoffs and does what his big mate NW did....I remember the day comments about being out of date etc etc etc were aimed when Sir Neil got the job.
Let’s give him a chance

He will get my vote however if there’s no improvement to the end of the season he should be released together with under performing players.

It will be interesting as it always is at City.

Very happy with the appointment

I think he will do very well here, his history in the Division and his experience is very good so personally looking forward to seeing what he can do here.

That really didn't matter it's a results buisness and even tan could see no point in carrying on with Harris!

Its no coincidence that their style of football, tactics and the recruitment of players to deliver it, are so predictable, rigid and dated. Yet this seems to fit with the so called "Cardiff Way" so it actually does not come as a surprise, particularly as it appears we have no football men at boardroom level, an owner who does not communicate with its fan base, gives money to a manager to spend and then sacks him before some of the players find out. I could go on, how NOT to run a business, and football is business.

If its until the end of the season, I will stomach it, purely for the hope a more experienced backroom can find us ending the season with some sort of credibility.

Most of all, I want rid of this "Cardiff way" once and for all, defending deep, passing sideways, long throws, reliant on set pieces, lack of flair and creativity, out passed, chasing shadows, slow centre backs, chasing the game when behind and leaving it to late to play some football when we are losing. All this under every manager since Dave Jones. I detest it. To rid the players who can't deliver it and bring in those who can, will take at least 3 windows, I feel Craig Bellamy and a more experienced football man of his choice looking down, is the team to do deliver that.

And I detest further the way the club is being run from youth upwards and the lack of communication and consideration to us the heartbeat of the football club. I want to be entertained and enthused when I pay what little money I have to follow our team home and away, its been the opposite of that for to long.

Come on mate

He's been promoted from this Division twice as Champions with different Clubs

He did a really good job at Wolves, did nothing wrong at Ipswich and his record as Ireland manager was as good as you expect really

Don't forget that when Warnock came here his most recent record had not been great and I for one wrote him off, it was a mistake and not one I am going to make again

I'm struggling to see anything that he's done wrong in his career really apart from his recent stint in Greece but lets be fair, that can happen to anyone, fair play to him for giving it a crack,

i for one am really looking forward to seeing what he can I just wish he'd had the transfer window but theres still a bit of time.

It’s fine saying for the future no but this season ok, but the fact is if he turns things around and we are top half of the table he will be the future. Very rarely does he club appoint a manager short term, he does the job they want him to do and then they dump him and get in someone different. If Mick does the job and wants to stay longer then he is the future. Needless to say we all want him to be successful as I’m sure none of us wants relegation.

I hope MM is the right fit for Cardiff, what I do like about him he will speak up, he won't have players thinking they are bigger than the club, he will make us hard to beat, I would like us playing some nice football, HOOF it up the field is crap, City have made the move we have been dealt with uncertainty amongst the fan, So City fans let's now get behind him, stay positive, give him a chance. :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Firstly, Welcome Mick Mcarthy to our Great and passionate Club. :bluescarf:

Very Good post "barriboy". Yes we all have our opinions BUT Mick IS our new Boss now and we should all support him , the team , the board and Mr Tan on and off the pitch as its a whole team thing.

IF things do go "tits up" by the end of the season, then we can all have our say, as we did with Neil Harris and the perceived lack of passion from some of the players.

But, Looking at Mick's record and fans comments from clubs that he has managed, I do think that he may become a "fans favourite" for decent football (old fashioned but forward passing), good rapport with fans (what SAM Hammam, EM and MM had and DJ lacked), Workman like attitude with the players, Comes over well in media/interviews. All of which makes a good Manager in my opinion.

I think that Mick knows and respects the passion and fans expectations (sometimes too much - including myself) at our Great club and will work hard for us.

Time will tell as always, But lets get behind our new manager. :bluescarf: :bluebird:

As a lifelong Norwich City fan you might be surprised that I regard Mick McArthy as a very capable manager.
When he managed Ipswich (spit) Town he was a worthy adversary and as such he got all the abuse that Norwich City fans could muster. That said, I felt a little sorry for him when the Ipswich fans turned on him. He is a decent manager and deserves his chance.
P.S. After he left, Ipswich appointed agent Lambert, so all is good in the galaxy.
P.P.S I am a little relieved that our two teams do not have to meet again this season.

Good luck

Thank you for that mate
I for one am happy with Mick’s appointment, I don’t think we’ve had a manager more successful than Mick McCarthy has been apart from Sir Neil Warnock so I’m very happy and looking forward to see what he can do.
It’s a shame we have played you twice and won’t be playing you again this season because it would’ve been interesting to see Mick manage us against you, we may have actually given you a good game, oh well nevermind.
You’re by far the best team in the championship this season and good luck to you when you get promoted to the promised land as champions :thumbright:
Stay safe fella :ayatollah:

There is no doubt Harris was dragging us down inexorably towards a relegation fight and I think McCarthy will stop that. It's just I can't see the point of a temporary appointment which a six months contract suggests. If we get a new manager say Pearson or Cook at the emd of the season he won't have worked with the squad or the youth team and have any real idea who to keep and who to let go. Giving a six month contract to a safe pair of hands suggests the board don't have any real confidence in their own ability to select a new manager and maybe given some of their previous selections their doubts in there own abilities are justified.

Can't see that any one obvious candidate is suddenly going to appear at the end of the season certainly not some Eddie Howe type who would want to manage us. Would rather have given McCarthy a proper contract on the basis he keeps us up and let him have a go next season with him knowing what he is dealing with. The short term contract smacks a bit of prevarication.

but who is to say he has nbot been promised longer if he does a decent job ? tbh i wish all manager contracts were more like this because there has been a reluctance to sack harris , and possibly some of the reluctance was having to pay him off ... and confidence in appointing a new manager ? how confident can you be ,they are always gambles , some work and some do not..

One of the best out there, despite the cliche'd long ball dinasaur comments. Worked miracles at Sunserland with a tiny budget and some great football, same happened at Wolves, Ipswich? A group of abusive fans for several weeks got a mouthfull back and then cried about it for weeks. Ipswich's budget was tiny and they over performed, anything less then became unaccesptable to a portion of fans who thought it was still the 80,s.Mick will play any style of football that suits the situation, in your case you have a squad already, thete'll be a leader at the back like Berra at Wolves (free), wing backs and a target man like Kieffer (who he discoveted for pennies). Give hime some time and he'll get rid of the rubbish and build a squad for next to nothing.

Only thing I'm asking for is he finds out what has gone wrong and corrects it.

I don't think sacking Harris will resolve the problem. I feel there is something else there that is part of the problem. Something tells me we are going to get rid of a few players this summer.

Have a feeling you will be proved correct, some players will be gone for sure,my hope is,he can get the ones with quality to perform on a consistent level, and perhaps a little cash to spend.good luck mick!!
