2000/8 Sam Hamman
2008/10 Peter Ridsdale/PMG
2010 - Present Vincent Tan
For me Ian,like you we have seen owners come and go since the early 70's.
But I will put these 6 in order of how I rate them and just a quick paragraph by each.
!. Sam Hammam / Woke the sleeping Giant(Cardiff City) up and came in when we were rock bottom and no one else would, made mistakes along the way and has admitted he did. Some say left us in debt, but we were in debt when he bought us and had no assests, once Sam left we had a debt, but our squad and outline planning out wade the debt. We went up from League 4 to the Top of the Championship under Sam, Crowds went up from 4,000 to 20,000m what Ninian Park held and he modernised Ninian Park.
2. Rick Wright / United our fans and made watching Cardiff City in the lower leagues unbelievable happy times, but could not take us anymore forward.
3. Vincent Tan / could of been our greatest ever owner after two promotions to the Premier League, but stripped our club of its identity & pride and to this day turned fans against each other sadly maliciously on some occasions. Put money in our club, but wasted so much due to No knowledge of football and we have not gone forward due to this. Tan paid nearly £6mill for us just before the play off final v Blackpool, gambled, but not really gambled as he for that agreed the debts, but inherited a stadium worth £60mill and a healthy squad of players. We were odds on fav for Prem league, which could of netted £100mill.
4. Tony Clemo / many disliked him as they said he took money from our club and had no ambition, totally wrong, Clemo invested but our crowds were so low in them days no matter what we did in the old 2nd div (Chamionship) Clemo could never go forward with home crowds of 4,000-5,000 witn no ther monies coming in.
5. Steve Borley / tried his best, but never had real funds and was way out of depth.
6. Peter Ridsdale / got the stadium finally done, but wasted beyond money and put our club in debt beyond.
7. Kumar Brothers / pure conmen, from day one. Even sowed their own sponsor in their factories over old sponsors and put them on sale. Put no money in the club, fans were united on getting rid of them.
Ha ha no bias in those paragraphs at all. Love it.
Neil, just honesty , prob shocked you me making Tan No 3, many would of thought I would say last.
Where is your comments on all of them?
Or just another dig at me?
Stop being so sensitive hardly a dig.
But it’s massively biased against Tan and pro Sam. But that’s fine Sam is a good friend of yours. I would expect nothing less from someone as loyal as you are.

Sam quite clearly got us going and invested more than he intended which I think was because he caught the bug. Towards the end he was quite divisive. Maybe even before that with the coach loads of fans he took to Mansfield. However it can’t be argued that we all enjoyed the ride. Anyone who says differently is a liar. It’s my favourite period supporting Cardiff. For all the good of being one of a couple of hundred it was much better being one of a couple of thousand.
Improved us massively on the pitch and improved Ninian Park but when he left we were still at Ninian Park and he couldn’t deliver the stadium without help which was his downfall and people took advantage of his desperation. He had also sold most of our biggest assets by the time he left.
Raised our profile considerably however I think it was the FA Cup Final that really raised our profile so that the Malaysians got interested. However we wouldn’t have got to an FA Cup Final without the momentum started under Sam.
I think he left us better off as we were an established second tier side and we were top of the league when he was ousted but we knew that wasn’t going to stay like that without investment.
The Riddler also caught the bug a bit and Probably was instrumental in delivering the stadium. However, as he did at Leeds, he paid for today by taking what he hoped was part of tomorrow’s money. When that became all of tomorrow’s money it meant we would end up in court. In many ways though we became a lot more professional under the Riddler despite his constant lies to the fans/players/high court etc.
Tan started amazingly saving the club. Then got the bug I think and got carried away with the red. That was the most divisive act in the history of the club. I honestly don’t think he meant to offend the fans though. My thoughts on this are well documented. The real kickback from the thousands started when we started losing. Most were quiet when we were winning the second tier.
Has made a lot of mistakes as he has been very badly advised. If he and Sam could work together I think it could be a dream ticket. Shame it never will.
He has corrected his one massive mistake and we have made undoubted strides on and off the pitch. When the training centre is complete it will match the stadium as a huge asset on the books. He has also promoted to make us debt free and has not given me a reason to doubt that he will do that.
It’s not the roller coaster that it was under Sam but we aren’t selling our captain to other teams to pay the wages or in the high court every month for unpaid debts like we were so for that I appreciate Tan.
We are a solid championship club now.
Excellent summary of our times in the Championship!
Tan our best owner by a mile!
then Sam for seeing we had the potential to be a big club (bigger than Barcelona!) but didn’t put his own money into our club!
3rd Ridsdale who delivered us the new stadium but again made a lot of money out of us!

So you think a single top ten finish 70 years ago is a better achievement than a league cup final, play off final ,Fa Cup final and 4 trips to Wembley , championship champions , championship runners up, two promotions and 4 play off finishes including this year ?
Football has moved on and its much harder to gain success now than it was back then .
This last 10/12 years has been on another level compared to anything that has gone before in my opinion.

Ridsdale got lucky and was closer to finishing the club of than anyone before him or since... the golden ticket would have wiped us out.. not only did we not buy the promised players but still ended up in court facing a winding up order..if you follow that to its conclusion even an unlikely reprieve in court where instalments were accepted { extremely unllikely in itself } would have left us with zero cash for the following season as the St money had already gone.
he got the ground done...but boy did we get lucky

Neil,
I think you were very honest and genuine about Sam![]()
As to the new stadium, Sam got us the outline planning , but was stabbed in the back by the Riddler and he was supported by Guy and Mike Hall, who were egg heads and property developers who made multi millions out of Cardiff and have got away with murder and £millions upon £millions and no one says a thing.
No I don’t think Tan set out to upset us or turn against us, people actually with in Our club told him not to listen to me and our fans would not mind.
Tan promised me personally that he would not rush in to the rebrand and would no matter what change both badge and colour.
I believed him and actually really liked him and thought he was sincere.
As a businessman I fully respect him on how well Tan has done in life![]()

As to the Rebrand divided our fans beyond, cost our club £millions.
Tan has had us for sale now for years.
Is Tan in love with Cardiff City 100% NO.
He wants all his money back and I understand that and he will be gone.
As to a solid Championship club now, Hmmmmmmmm?

1986-1992 Tony Clemo
1992-1995 Rick Wright
1995-1999 Samesh Kumar
1999-2000 Steve Borley

There is not much to disagree there in my view.
I don't think Tan meant to hurt the supporters but God knows what he was thinking when he gave us the rebrand. I was told he was advised against it but his wanting his own way he went for it. I'm told he is a stubborn man and was convinced the Red would win over the fans. I wonder how he felt when we sang at 19min 27 seconds and yes I do agree with you this all started when we were losing. Saying that there was a small group that demonstrated against the Red well before we started losing.
As for an established Championship club I think this season is going to be a touch and go for us to remain one.

No idea really. Don’t know who the committee are or who they have signed. If the committee signed Cornelius then they probably should have been sacked after that.
But under Warnock, I’m pretty sure he had a big say on transfers.
All clubs make bad signings.

Well your the one Neil who brought committee up, so i thought you must have known all about them.
They as you know were formed nearly 5yrs ago. Tan, Choo, Dalman and who ever the manager is at the time, but the final decision rests with the first three.
