Yes it was implemented late and not the clearest of instructions but it worked. We got the transmissions down to very little before everything opened up again and made it return. We just need to learn from the mistakes of the first wave to make sure it doesn't happen again.

The only fact is nobody really knew how to deal with it because it has never happened on this scale before in modern times . Rolling on and off lockdowns based on case numbers instead of currently where restrictions seem to be implemented at varying levels.

E.g if Cardiff hits 100 cases per 100,000 it should go into a lockdown with the current restrictions. If it hits 150 cases per 100,000 it should go into a stricter lockdown closer to what we saw in summer time. If we hit 200 cases per 100,000 we go into full lockdown such as March.

Obviously these numbers will differ from place to place based on ICU capacity, testing capacity, population density etc and the numbers above are just filler to use as examples.

It helps provide clarity to decisions and gives local councils reasoning to impose restrictions with a set criteria which your average citizen can follow ”If cases are X, lockdown phase 1 will be implemented. If cases are Y, lockdown phase 2 will be implemented”. As the local infection rates are very easy to find it will help people and businesses predict incoming restrictions instead of currently where some places have measures put in place over night without warning.

Is it a perfect solution, definitely not, but I think one thing that’s been lacking since day 1 has been clarity from the government.

Definitely what I was trying to say, must’ve just forgot to actually say it thankfully the only 2 states the world can be in are “all is well” or “totalitarian, 1984 style nightmare”.

Unfortunately all is not well in the world and the past 9 months will probably be for many people the hardest times they’ve faced in their lives, I know for myself personally this is true. Lying that there is no school, no work, no health service, no fun, etc completely undermines the sacrifices people have made though to make these basic things in life possible.

I personally know several NHS workers ranging from heads of departments to part time cleaners who have been working tirelessly since the start of the pandemic. One of these people spent hundreds of hours handmaking masks for non essential personnel and patients which he handed out for free.
My partner’s mum is a primary school teacher and spent months creating virtual lessons for her children so they wouldn’t miss out entirely on a large chunk of their education during their formative years.
These are the efforts of just 2 individuals out of the tens of thousands all across the UK who have tried to bring us one step closer to normalcy and our previous lifestyle.

Deaths , transmissions and hospital admissions all fell massively by August because of lockdown that is a fact. Why are you only giving numbers until July? . It was only when we allowed travel abroad to recommence that this came back to bite us.
The biggest mistake this government has made is allowing foreign travel.

We can control this virus with a hard lockdown for a month to break the transmissions in the community then reopen as we are now without foreign travel permitted.

Yes it was implemented late and not the clearest of instructions but it worked. We got the transmissions down to very little before everything opened up again and made it return. We just need to learn from the mistakes of the first wave to make sure it doesn't happen again.

The only fact is nobody really knew how to deal with it because it has never happened on this scale before in modern times . no its mot a fact at all... yes they fell but fell because lockdown had been eased...the fact is 92% of deaths were during the killdown...and ive used the killdown dates...not 2 months later in August after it had been eased. confine people in a small space 24/7 for months and if 1 gest it everyone in there gets it and you exterminate the weakest....plane travel is a different convo... but there is zero evidence that lockdowns do anything other than drive up deaths..

its been 7 months mate ..and many of those whose lives have been extended by a month 3/6 months are dead anyway.. only we made sure their were imprisoned and restricted from seeing loved ones during their final days and that some people couldnt even turn up to pay last respects...

Definitely what I was trying to say, must’ve just forgot to actually say it thankfully the only 2 states the world can be in are “all is well” or “totalitarian, 1984 style nightmare”.

Unfortunately all is not well in the world and the past 9 months will probably be for many people the hardest times they’ve faced in their lives, I know for myself personally this is true. Lying that there is no school, no work, no health service, no fun, etc completely undermines the sacrifices people have made though to make these basic things in life possible.

I personally know several NHS workers ranging from heads of departments to part time cleaners who have been working tirelessly since the start of the pandemic. One of these people spent hundreds of hours handmaking masks for non essential personnel and patients which he handed out for free.
My partner’s mum is a primary school teacher and spent months creating virtual lessons for her children so they wouldn’t miss out entirely on a large chunk of their education during their formative years.
These are the efforts of just 2 individuals out of the tens of thousands all across the UK who have tried to bring us one step closer to normalcy and our previous lifestyle.

I’ve seen and experienced the negative affects so trust me I can comprehend it, I had an ex co-worker commit suicide, I was unable to attend a family funeral as the limit was set at 20 at the time, both my parents ended up on furlough and both were worried about redundancy, I’ve seen my employment opportunities fall from very high to almost zero.

my point was there is no end plan to get out of this... i dont buy into the conspiracy bit any more than i believe we should continue blindly going forward because it would belittle people who tried to help one another through a difficult time..

No one has ever died 'of old age'.

Whilst it’s easy to say ‘protect the vulnerable and let the rest go on with life so long as they adhere to the rules’ in reality that’s not going to work because 1) the +70’s who are fit and responsible will feel their liberty is taken away from them and 2) t TY he rest will just take the mick.
