Killing innocents is disgusting.
I imagine you would also use this description for the British soldiers that killed 14 unarmed civilians in Derry? Or the same regiment that killed another 11 civilians in Ballymurphy?
It depends if you believe the army was fired upon. They most likely were. When my battalion was in Belfast an innocent Catholic youth was killed and one wounded at a mobile VCP (checkpoint) the fact that they had tried to run over a squaddie manning the VCP at high speed in the stolen car they were in didn't seem to come into it on the republican side only that a soldier had fired a single round hitting the driver, killing him and hitting another in the back seat. Brits shooting innocent people was very good propaganda and brought in more money for the cause from NORAID. Obviously there was no mention of them attempting to kill anyone in a stolen car or not having a driving licence because they weren't old enough in An Phoblacht only that they were traveling in a car. Or the times when gunmen would hide in a mob to open fire at the Army/RUC. A bit like Ballymurphy and the Bog.
It’s pretty widely accepted that the civilians killed on Bloody Sunday were unarmed with substantial evidence to back up these claims. Not only were they unarmed but several were shot in the back as they ran away and others were shot trying to give medical aid to the wounded.
I won’t deny that soldiers were targeted and shot at in Ireland but it’s these soldiers in this particular incident I’m wondering if Foghorn has the same anger towards.
