Lazy & over rated. I would much rather have a Gavin Whyte in my team.
Murphy 6goals and 3 assists, the same as Hoilett, whose played twice as many games,Whyte 1goal,0 assists, Mendez 3 goals,3assists.He’s our best attacking winger as stats show, but obviously not a defender!

Therein lies the problem with Murphy. Hoilett has a much better all round game and doesn't sulk when things don't go his way.I think Whyte would make an excellent wingback as he has a great engine and it would take the pressure off to score goals.

The problem for us is Tomlin. We need Tomlin in the team but he does very little defensively, he covers areas but you can't rely on him and why should as he is offensive player.
If the midfield 3 is Vaulks,Ralls and Bacuna then we can afford Josh, but can't unless we are going gung ho Dave Jones style of we will score more than you.
Without getting into the Glatzel debate for the umpteenth time. He struggles back to goal and is not mobile or quick enough to play on the shoulder. He can finish if we are in open play but we are fundamentally a soak it up and counter team/set play so we are very rarely going to be on the front foot possession wise. Yesterday I believe was the first time we won with greater possession albeit against a WARNOCK team so it doesn't count.
I can't see Josh being that much worse than Glatzel back to goal, but a totally different proposition on the should with grass to run into.
I can't see him with us next season, there are coaches out there who would definitely believe there is a very good player in there and fancy having a crack at it.

Josh has to take the criticism as a compliment, no other player gets the stick he does because nobody else has the ability and potential that he does. If you start feeling and playing the victim your standards will drop. If he had 2 or 3 consistent seasons playing to his full ability you'd be looking at a minimum 12 goal-a-season winger in the championship and a player all 4 sides of the ground would be chanting for.
I just wish that when things aren't going right for him he'd just chase more and look for that simple pass more, basically being a bit more patient, because with the ability he has he just needs to do the basics for 89 minutes and have 1 moment of brilliance. Rely on TOMLIN to make the risky pass or take a man on, he's proven he can do it 9 times out of 10, just simply play to your strengths!
I understand it is hard being a winger, people judge you on doing some of the hardest parts of the game but he can do it. A consistent Josh Murphy is a Premier League winger we all know that.
