"Smashed up their city".
You'd be surprised to hear, that no, the city wasn't smashed up. One statue was pulled down. A statue that was already controversial anyway and should have been removed years ago. That was the only "smashing up" that happened. There was no desecration of war memories (which I am totally against btw), there was no damage to anything else in the city or any persons in the city. So maybe you need to rethink what you believe.

pembroke allan wrote:Forgot to say he was anti colston and what he stood for..... also they now want a statue of a civil rights activist from the 60s erected :?

I mean that really isn't a controversial view in Bristol.

Colston was slave trader. There have been discussions about taking down the statue for decades now.
What would be wrong with having a statue of someone who won better rights for minorities in Bristol?

They have the same rights as everybody else...

The black community should start reading Luther King, instead of listening to Ice-T. Luther King specifically relating to education.

Honestly, the black kids they put up on tv complaining about lack of jobs sound like gangster rappers...who tf is gonna employ that?

No it wasnt but lets eradicated city history and replace it with an activist from the 60s! Sure there are more worthy recipients of a statue than a person who did something in the 60s he did something to help people use busses , whilst the other helped build Bristol into the city it is today.. now they want remove statue from cardiff town hall of picton seems there is a movement to forget past history's of citys....

That'll be old Pickie doomed then. I mean, apart from the slavery and torture and that, what did he do to harm anyone.

Listening to Joshua rant

He thinks he's from South Central L.A. and is hours with the leader of the crips

I seen a young black man interviewed yesterday, about 19 all the decent clobber on, spoke like Prince William going on about equality. The clothes he had on were probably worth more than my car

they need to get a fckin grip or try the { hood } out for a day or 2..... Baltimore 22 homicides since George Floyd died.. Chicago most homicides in a day since records have been kept { 60 years } 18 in one day plus another 80 odd gun shot injuries.. mostly young black males... and you have beauts in the UK pretending its like that here...

Re: Plymouth Football lads Well Done

These BLM have other agendas as what they are doing will obviously backfire on youngsters going for jobs as who will employ some young black person after this when the bosses will think " I'm not employing him/her as they are going to complain to the press about being treated differently even if they're not"

ITV news last night they interviewed some ( white)woman who is in University of Bristol and leader of the Conforming Colston group WTF, she was going on and on about changing history !! What are they teaching these folk? You cannot change history.
As for her, if she wants to change this and change that I suggest she f**k off back to USA/CANADA ( she was one or other )and sort her own country out!!

We had that bloody Greta over here telling us we are killing her planet when her own country had worse emissions than us!! What is it with Great Britain ? People rioting about race, climate , defacing statues and our politicians say " it's your right to demonstrate" We must be one of the most tolerant countries in the world but still they riot.

Sorry for rant folks but personally I think all this BLM movement is going to achieve is turn people less tolerant sad sad times.

Stay safe lads and lasses.

Not sure how it is "eradicating history".
Statues are for people to be celebrated.
Once dragged up from the Avon, the statue is going to be put into the M-Shed museum. So there is no "eradicating history".
Hell if anything, the news output from the statue being pulled down has educated more people about Colston and Bristol's history related to the slave trade than anything else in decades.

In terms of Paul Stephenson, you say "did something to help people use buses" - maybe you need to read some history yourself!
The Bristol Bus Boycott was massive deal in the history of racism and black rights in this country. To reduce it to "helping people to use buses" is a massive disservice. How would you like to be refused travel on public transport because the colour of your skin?

Errr I wasn't talking Ice-T so I have no idea what the hell you are on about.
I was talking about Paul Stephenson who is the person a lot of people want a statue of there instead.
He led a movement when people of colour certain'y did not have the same rights as everyone else.

Had a good laugh last night when the BBC News, showed figures about how black youths are less likely to succeed than their white or Asian counterparts. This was then followed by a young black male ranting about the lack of opportunity for young black men to progress in this country.

In the same bulletin the deputy speaker of the house of commons was shown she happens to be black, the mayor of Bristol was shown who happens to be black, the mayor of Cardiff was shown who happens to be black. The foreign Secretary was shown who happens to be Asian. Britain is a land of opportunity for anyone regardless of race to succeed if young black men choose not to take up these opportunity's that is down to individual choice.

The wider concern is what happens this Saturday if as predicted there's a significant opposition to a BLM rally. Forget the front of protecting war memorials people fed up of lockdown and no football will go up there for a ruck. As usual it will be the police that cop it. That shouldn't happen particularly when you saw the vid of the police woman who was so badly hurt off the horse.id urge the football people to stay away but this is becoming serious shit and the army should be deployed to back up the fragile underfunded police
