This is the best explanation I have come across regarding death figures. Sounds like other countries numbers will sky rocket once everything is counted

Steve the Tea TM (c) wrote:The first sentence of this thread: 'UK has the highest death rate in the world,' is simply wrong whilst the Guardian heading is misleading.

Though figures show that in Britain sadly 29,400 have died; Italy the total is 29,300 and Spain witnessed 25,600 deaths the raw figures are misleading. When you factor in the populations of these countries the death rates are: Spain (pop: 47m) has seen 0.054% of her population die. In Italy (pop: 60m) deaths amount for 0.048% and in Britain (68m) 0.043%.

However, the total of deaths as a percentage of the population would be even higher in Spain and Italy as this morning on BBCtv Matt Hancock (Heath Secretary) stated that the GB totals are for deaths in hospitals AND Care Homes whilst the figures for Spain and Italy only include those who died in hospitals.

If deaths in care homes were also included in their statistics then the percentage of deaths per population in Spain and Italy would have been even worse.

On the second issue of this thread, if true, the planned mass meeting defies logic. Clearly authorities would never allow it to go ahead, though.

Hancock the health Secretary Hmmmmmmmm?

Has talked bullshit for weeks
He has no clue about his own country never mind other countries.

Where I live in the Balearic Islands all private care homes / care homes etc are included in the daily death toll.

Also don’t forget the UK Govt said itself it was looking at worst 20,000 deaths .

Of course it’s right to compare other countries if the UK was the least they would be saying it as well.

The first week of the UK lockdown was DONT go out, yet the pubs / cinemas/ theatres were still open , madness .

For weeks and still Now happening 105,000 people arrive in the UK with not one question asked to them.

I won’t go on but from day one the Govt were way to slow and soft .

POPULATIONS:

Germany 83mill
France 67 mill
UK 66mill
Italy 60mill
Spain 47mill

UK is at least two weeks behind on the virus.

AND THUS IS FACTS BELOW / NOT FAKE NEWS

At least 15,000 people a day are flying into the UK without checks on their medical condition, the health secretary admitted yesterday.

Matt Hancock said that the equivalent of 105,000 passengers a week were entering the UK from countries including those with serious coronavirus outbreaks such as the US, China, Spain and Italy. Criticism has mounted over the failure to impose health checks or a compulsory period in quarantine for people arriving at UK airports. The US has banned entry for people from Britain and elsewhere in Europe.

Sky News:

The UK got in this position after 45 days / Italy took 60 days to get in this position

The UK has Europe's HIGHEST fatality count as data suggests the TRUE number of victims could be at least 40,000

Data counting people who weren't tested is adding thousands of previously uncounted victims to death toll

Italy has so far recorded around 29,000 victims, and Spain and France have around 25,000 each

US has by far the largest death toll, with almost 70,000 victims, but this is diluted in an enormous population

UK's Office for National Statistics counts anyone with COVID-19 on death certificate, whether tested or not

It counted 29,710 deaths by April 24 in England and Wales. A further 2,612 in Scotland and Northern Ireland
Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

By SAM BLANCHARD SENIOR HEALTH REPORTER FOR MAILONLINE

5 May 2020

Another 693 people were today confirmed to have died of COVID-19 in England, Scotland and Wales, taking the number of victims to 29,427 and making Britain the worst-hit nation in Europe.

And separate backdated figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show the figure appears to have already been higher than 32,000 by April 24 - 10 days ago.

That number is 42 per cent higher than the count announced by the Department of Health at the time, suggesting the current total could be higher than 40,000 - this would mean COVID-19 has killed more Britons in eight weeks than died over seven months during the Blitz bombings in World War Two.

Today's data confirms that more people have died of the coronavirus in the UK than in Italy, still considered to be the worst-hit country in Europe and had suffered 29,079 fatalities by this morning. Only the US has had more deaths than Britain - almost 70,000 - while there have been 25,600 in Spain and 25,200 in France.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THESE FACTS?

The latest figures on European housing reveal that two out of three Spaniards live in a flat, while in countries such as Britain, Croatia and Norway, more than 80 percent of people live in houses.

Spanish people live in over populated areas in the City’s and they are far more condensed than any other European countries which is mainly the reason why Covid-19 spread so fiercely in the first few weeks.

Italy was also in a similar position with many areas of Italy over populated with the population living in flats.

LOOK I WANT THE UK TO BE THE LEAST IN THE WORLD.

Sweden is nearing the 'horrifying' death toll of 3,000 from coronavirus, with 87 new fatalities, including a child under ten.

The Scandinavian country, which has taken a softer approach to containing the virus, reported another 87 deaths, compared to 85 fatalities the day before. There were another 702 cases, compared to 495 on Tuesday, taking its total to 23,918.

'We are starting to near 3,000 deceased, a horrifyingly large number,' state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell told a press conference.

Among them, according to Aftonbladet, a child aged under ten who had been in intensive care. Tegnell told the paper it was investigating the death but would not confirm whether it was as a result of COVID-19.

Coronavirus outbreak
‘Complacent’ UK draws global criticism for Covid-19 response

The Guardian

By Jon Henley and Guardian correspondents

From Italy to Australia, critics have accused a “complacent” British government of “massively underestimating” the gravity of the coronavirus crisis after the UK reported the highest death toll in Europe.

While Rai Uno, the Italian state broadcaster’s flagship channel, gave prominent play to the news that Britain had recorded “more than 32,000 deaths, the highest total in Europe exceeding even Italy”, the Corriere della Serra daily went a good way further.

The situation in the UK was “like a nightmare from which you cannot awake, but in which you landed because of your own fault or stupidity”, the influential liberal-conservative paper said, adding that Britain seemed “a prisoner of itself”.

The country that was “the most reluctant in Europe to impose a lockdown has become the most cautious to start reopening”, with public opinion frightened of the consequences and Boris Johnson eager to avoid breaking Italy’s “sad record”.

Experts have warned against direct international comparisons of Covid-19 death tolls, saying different counting methods and many other factors make such exercises unreliable and it may take months if not years to draw firm conclusions.

However, Beppe Severgnini, an opinion writer on Corriere della Sera, said it seemed clear Britain had “lost the advantage that fate and Italy gave it – for example, the first two weeks of the outbreak in Italy when it was obvious the virus was spreading”.

The British government “did not pay enough attention to what was happening here, while Germany responded very well”, Severgnini said. “The two great British virtues – understatement and grace under fire – have turned out to not be a blessing.”

He said the UK was served neither by “a very weak cabinet” nor Johnson’s character: “He’s not Trump, though there is something similar in their approaches, but in this kind of challenge you need to really work hard on details. He’s not a details person.”

Beyond Italy – where the Covid-19 death toll, which does not include suspected cases, is just over 29,000 – German commentators were also critical. Britain has emerged as Europe’s “problem child” of the Covid-19 crisis, the DPA news agency’s London correspondent Christoph Meyer wrote.

“Only a few weeks ago, Britain had the reputation of a country in which the coronavirus was only spreading cautiously,” Meyer wrote in an opinion piece published in several newspapers in Germany and Austria.

“Politicians were already slapping each other on their backs and praising the health system, which was better prepared for the pandemic than any other country in the world. But that has quickly revealed itself to be a fallacy … There are now many signs that the government in London massively underestimated the pandemic.”

In a piece this week drawing on the British prime minister’s frequent deployment of classical allusions, the London correspondent of Spain’s left-leaning El País queried suggestions that the prime minister was some latter-day Odysseus.

“The conservative press tries to present Johnson as a man of reborn wisdom”, whose experience of Covid-19 had led him to “lash himself to the mast to resist the siren calls” of those demanding the lockdown be lifted soon, wrote Rafa de Miguel.

“In fact, it’s far from clear whether such determination is the fruit of careful calculation – or the result of simply closing one’s eyes when there’s no other option.”

Officials in Greece, which has been widely praised for its handling of the pandemic, have watched London’s handling of the crisis with disbelief, with epidemiologists also criticising the UK government’s initial embrace of a “herd immunity” policy.

The progressive daily Ethnos described Johnson as “more dangerous than coronavirus”, saying one of the crisis’s greatest tragedies was that “incompetent leaders” such as Johnson and Donald Trump were “at the helm at a time of such emergency”.

Before changing tack, Johnson “had gone out and essentially asked Britons … to accept death”, wrote the columnist Giorgos Skafidas.

Irish commentators also expressed dismay at the UK’s record. “Ministers of slim talent have bumbled through daily briefings and now big business-Conservative donors are impatient to reverse a shutdown so contrary to Brexiteer dreams,” Fionnuala O’Connor wrote in the broadly nationalist Irish News.

“Boris Johnson needs all his showman’s tricks now to sell the phasing out of a lockdown which was less than effective, at least in part, because of his stubborn libertarianism.”

Outside Europe, criticism has been strongest in Australia and New Zealand, both of which imposed strict, early lockdowns and have contained their outbreaks. Scott Morrison, the Australian prime minister, said no country that had pursued herd immunity had achieved it, describing the strategy as a “death sentence”.

David Hunter, an Australian-educated professor of epidemiology and medicine at Oxford University, told the conservative Sydney Morning Herald the British response was “not a model to follow. It has one of the worst epidemics in Europe and the world … Some aspects of the response have almost certainly contributed to the high mortality”.

Hunter particularly criticised the British decision – in contrast to Australia and New Zealand – not to close its borders early. Mike Rann, a former Australian high commissioner to Britain, told the paper Britain had “handled the earliest stages negligently”, lamenting “a shambles of mixed messaging, poor organisation and a complacent attitude that what was happening in Italy wouldn’t happen here”.

A UK government spokesperson said: “This is an unprecedented global pandemic and we have taken the right steps at the right time to combat it, guided by the best scientific advice.

“The government has been working day and night to battle coronavirus, delivering a strategy designed to protect our NHS and save lives. Herd immunity has never been a policy or goal.”

There is literally zero evidence to show that a prolonged lockdown is beneficial. if you go to the WHO website, they had a report at the end of last year and another in February, which both confirmed this.
They suggest lockdown can be useful in the early stages, but there is no evidence to justify prolonged lockdowns. South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan are great examples of lockdowns not being needed.

Lets get this straight, one death is one death too many, and its tragic when people pass away. But lets be rational here, protect those that are vulnerable and require protection but allow the rest of us to get on with our lives.
A prolonged lockdown is going to destroy the economy, drive people into despaire and result in far more deaths than the Coronavirus.
Check the amount of people who died as a result of the great depression for reference.

Arrests after anti-lockdown protest in London

Marianna Spring

Disinformation and social media reporter

The protesters who gathered in central London were emotional. Many were angry and distrustful of the police, government and media - although most were polite when I spoke to them.

They had placards and leaflets detailing a wide range of conspiracy theories - their targets included 5G technology, Bill Gates and vaccinations. Some clustered in front of our camera and joined arms in defiance of social distancing.

Small groups of up to 40 or 50 people gathered at various points in the capital in the morning.

Our team saw arrests in St James’s Park, near the Accident and Emergency department of St Thomas’ Hospital, and outside the Houses of Parliament. The Metropolitan Police reported 14 arrests.

A police statement said: “Despite repeated attempts by officers to engage with the group, explain the current restrictions and encourage them to go home a number refused to leave.”

Seven arrested in Bolton on suspicion for breaching Covid-19 regulations

Seven people were arrested after a fight broke out at a birthday party attended by 40 adults and children in Bolton, Great Manchester Police have said.

Police were called to reports of a large number of people brawling outside a property shortly before 8pm on Saturday.

Officers encouraged the group to leave but some refused to co-operate and even began to deliberately cough and spit.

Seven people were arrested at the scene in Wemsley Grove on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and breaching lockdown measures.

They were detained for a period of time and later handed fixed penalties, police said. Another person was not arrested but was given a fixed penalty at the scene.

Assistant Chief Constable Robert Potts, said: "When the vast majority of us are all making such sacrifices in order to reduce the transmission of the virus and save lives as a result it is really disappointing to see the rules being flagrantly ignored by those who are putting their own safety and the safety of so many others at risk.

Stay true to yourself, and stick to your belkefs  :old: :bluebird:

I totally agree and will never take the vaccine as I dont think it's for the right reasons or I wouldnt put anything in my body that's not tried and tested.
This virus isn't all it's made out to be and if I'm a fruit loop then so be it

Wow! Someone who thinks different deserves to die?? What a nice response to your fellow human beings, what about all the people in parks yesterday and today, should they die also? There's a report from the police in London, saying they were fighting a losing battle, with people picnicking, sunbathing, and ignoring social distance guidance?? A percentage of people have n
Been breaking the guidelines since day one,but I wouldn't wish death on them for doing so.

It is not a matter of thinking differently that is bollux. over 30,000 deaths no matter what you think and you have these imbeciles, doing all this shit. It would be hard for any human being to not wish harm on these people when the majority of people in the uk are doing their best to keep people safe. These imbeciles are selfish, thoughtless and arrogant, and they should be locked up, and prosecuted for ABH as that is what they are doing passing on this virus, also any money they are getting off the state for whatever reason should be stopped :banghead:

Fair points mate, and I agree, but to wish death on somebody, who happens to see things in a different way?? I Stand by what I said in that regard, and I tend to agree with them, but I wouldn't attend any rally at present, as I have a very vulnerable 80 yr old mother to protect, and if they introduce mandatory vaccines, then I will also decline politely, I think for myself, and don't need someone dictating what and where I can do and go,not saying I'm not adhering to current rules,I am,I also deliver meds on a voluntary basis, but as for the government and scientists, with the very media in tows take on this,I strongly do not agree, all opinions of course. :old: :bluebird:
