Peltier was a fantastic signing , 5 years of terrific service, but was always going to be released.
We need full backs who can get forward and so if he was to remain it would have been as a squad player and the wages to go with it.
Think some more of the old guard will also be shown the door come the summer.
The squad is now down to 22 players of which 3 are long term injured.
3 loanees of and no money spent is the likely way forward unfortunately.

At the end of the day it’s been said he wanted the same wages as tomlin the club didn’t want to pay him that much so he went elsewhere

Forever Blue wrote:Apparently Neil Harris had a row with Lee Peltier, about 10 days ago over No offer of a new contract as Peltiers runs out this June.
That led to Peltier putting out his statement on Twitter, how much he enjoyed his 5 years etc :bluebird:

Peltier turned up v WBA to be part of the squad , Harris had not included him and said he would send Peltier out on loan as he had cover with Jazz Richards.

This led to Lee Peltier joining WBA yesterday.

Peltier at 33 may not have been in Harris plans and perhaps we need a change. But for someone who has never let the club down to be told by Harris that he would send him out on loan cos he has cover in Richards- a player who has spent the last two years with a succession on injuries and who on his few appearances recently has hardly covered himself in glory - see QPR and WBA. No wonder he was pissed off.

Bet he couldn't believe his luck when WBA came calling!

Its funny as its the "apparently", and "I heards" that caused this transfer to sound nastier than it probably was.

When this was first announced I thought it was a simple case of

"Lee, we are not going to extend your contract, we are going in a different direction"
"OK, I am disappointed, but if my agent can get a contract elsewhere can we rip up the last 6 months with no fee ?"
"Yes"

It made sense all round. We really do need to see if Coxe is up to it he is 21 and for Peltier I doubt he'd end up with a top end club in the summer, but this was his time and place.

Two things I don't understand is why we just didn't keep Peltier until the end of the season, and then he would have been a free agent anyway. Unless he was on big wages and the club saw a way of reducing the wage bill.

Also why cancel his contract, for him to sign as a free agent to WBA? Why not just do the transfer, unless it was too complicated for the paperwork?

Sad to see him go though, but I am concerned about Harris' faith in Jazz Richards. Always injured, good going forward but not as strong a s Peltier defensively, as evidenced by the two points he so nearly lost us last Tuesday.

WBA wouldn't pay for him as he's worthless money wise to anyone with only 6mnths left on contract! Also loaning him out would cost club money in wages, i presume city wanted him off books so only way to do it was to cancel contract by mutual consent otherwise club would have to pay up contract! Basically he went to free up money no other reason as club wasn't going to give him new contract

Got to say I think Peltier had been our best defender this season.

However, it’s clear Harris wants full backs who bomb forward and Pelts just isn’t that player. I’ve never seen Bennett get forward so much !!

Pelts has been a good signing for us but just a casualty of a change in approach.

Good decision by Harris, good luck to Pelts.

Summed up well. Most of us wanted to see change with more attacking football, fullbacks capable of getting up and down the pitch will help provide that. He has been a great servant to the club but he just isnt suited to that type of role. Makes sense to move him on, especially if contract talks were causing issues as mentioned on here.
