Actually Newport would have one of the best shouts at claiming MOH because the drill hall of the South Wales Borders was on Stow Hill (the old Queens High School) in the centre of Newport.
There used to be a plaque there at one time, not sure if it's still there

at rorkes drift they were called the 24thfoot not the south wales borderers (that came later) the regiments base was breacon and remained so til it became part of reg of wales. men of harlech wasnt sung there hollywood made it up
