When Swansea won the FA Cup...

To all the swans fans that have inhabited this forum over the years our clubs history only started when they 1st went to premier league some 10yrs ago! Because they cannot match our successes before then... why else do they poke fun of fact we won fa cup been in 2 other fa finals compared to their one semi final whenever that was! Even more famous clubs cannot boast fa cup win so its something to be proud of regardless when it was.....

Anyway to address your point, I don’t think any of us believe that football started when we entered the Premier League. Everyone is fully aware of when football started, however most people are also fully aware that successes 100 years ago are less relevant than modern day wins, the game is chalk and cheese and things were a lot easier for smaller teams to win back then. Which is why Bury won it twice and Huddersfield won the league twice.

Nobody is saying don’t be proud of it, nobody is saying don’t discuss it, go for your life.

What is being said is that it is amusing when you use a win that none of you saw, or were alive to see in the roaring 20’s to compare clubs and successes in the present day.

To put it into perspective, the Cardiff poster above put winning division 2 above the FA Cup win in terms of pure achievements. Says it all really.

The fact our win was in the past is really irrelevant, it's in the record books as a win, and the record of the only club to take the cup out of England.

Swansea's recent success is relevant too, but is also now in the past. They had seven years in the Premier League, good for them, but it's over now.

As for recent success, when Swansea got promoted they went up via the Play Offs. A comparison would be that we are more successful in the Championship because we got promoted twice, both automatically, one as champions. As Champions we held the Football league Championship Trophy, the same one they used to give to the old First Division winners pre PL.

A downside though is that w have been relegated in our last three seasons in the top flight, 2019, 2014., 1962 and four of the last five seasons, the other being 1956/7. We managed to survive in 1960/61. At least it's never dull with Cardiff City . Look at the last 12 years.

Again, nobody is saying you didn’t win it, nobody is saying don’t be proud of it, nobody is saying not to count it when looking at the history books.

What is being said is that a cup win in the roaring 1920’s in which you probably had to be born close to Victorian times to remember, will mean little to anybody else apart from the club that won it. Football was different back then and club size wasn’t really a barrier, which is why Bury won it twice. So to use that in the modern day context to how well or how big a club is - is amusing, that’s all that is being said.

With regards to Swansea’s success, we were all very much alive to witness it and the club still is bearing the fruit of that today.

When I do see, hear people talking about it then it is usually as part of a conversation as to why “x,y,z fan” thinks the club is bigger, better and using it in modern day terms - hence the amusement as that is quite funny. I put it in the same box as the “playing in a capital city” thing, I don’t think I have ever met anyone who wishes we played in a capital city.
