Wasted millions on Reid and Murphy last season surely their must have been better cheaper options out their than those two? Not to mention the further millions he spent on a back up keeper and left back.
I don't think we spent premier league money. let alone big money. Reid we made a profit and still might with Murphy.
how cheap did you want us to go exactly.?
How on Earth are we going to make a profit with Murphy? 11 million for a player who has one good game in about every 10 he plays. The deal with Fulham for Reid is a blinder for us.
My point was that for the money we spent we should have been able to get better players than we did. Warnock best business was getting people on frees or low transfers. Whenever he was given big money to spend he wasted on underwhelming players. His biggest signings were Murphy, Reid, Madine, Smithies and Cunningham and not one of them can be classed as big success. Compare that to the frees he got or the low transfer players plus the loans in prem. like I said Warnock did plenty of great things here but he was awful at signing players for big money.
none of those 5 would be regarded as a big signing by any other premier league club though... our SQUAD not just team needed improving. unfancied , punched above our weight ,the whole is more than the sum of its parts were all used during promotion lots of times. so up we go ,without a war chest to transform an over achieving championship squad into a decent premier side.. so we strengthened the squad.. it was the premier league for Christ sakes , and smithies and Cunningham were not exactly top notch but were decent back up. had we really needed them maybe views might be different but I don't see how you can think a premier league squad should be full of free transfers as back up.. and awful these players are not..
cunnigham and smithies are proven at championship level
reid ..profit
madine arrived when we had won 1 in 6...we did not lose in the 11 games that followed and he played a part in most..but he didn't score boo hoo.
murphy time will tell.. but certainly played a lot last season..
You really need to take those Warnock tinted specs off. His signings where he spent money have been poor- at best. £6mill for madine wasn’t played regularly - loaned out. Cunningham £4mill - not played loaned out, £3mill on a overweight Tomlin not played because he wasn’t fit enough (no shit) - loaned out, Smithies £4mill (?) not played and was on the verge of being loaned out if etheridge didn’t get injured, £10mill for Reid - said team would be built around him- played 1 game loaned/sold, £3mill for vaulks - not used. £11mill for Murphy - not a regular starter.
Not all signings are guaranteed to be successful and the squad did need strengthening but he spent a lot of money on players who have contributed very little to the first team. Not surprising that the board were unhappy with him given what he spent and how we short in certain positions.
yep...anything that's not in your agenda must be tinted...
if you don't get it, well you don't get it...but I will try .. Madine was not brought here as a first choice target man..much like Eddie Howe didn't pay us to loan KJ for their run in. our current manager is already talking about cover..{ not up front, but cover never the less } ..it was to push us over the line and take pressure of Ken...we don't go up its 2mill for a championship forward who really aint bad..if we do go up its 160 mill TV cash and we fork out 4mill more...you seriously don't have to be a branston pickle let alone Richard branson to know that's good business. we offered less, tried to loan , moved on to other targets but when deadline day is approaching what do you do ? Warnock went for it .{ no doubt with the board knowing exactly why he wanted Madine and being in agreement, I know I would be and am quite frankly shocked that so many wouldn't have } Smithies...you seriously think we shouldn't have decent back up or poor bck up in the prem ? Reid..what exactly do you do when an agent rings you with THAT discussion 2 weeks before the season..Reids body language doubled down on it at Wigan.. we made money but plans were scrapped it happens, and its happened to better managers at bigger clubs. you can dig your heels in but look what happened early season at Spurs , having players here that are desperate to not be here just can not be good for anyone....Vaulks played Saturday, played well and will probably play tomorrow..you can only pick 11 mate. and whoever doesn't get picked you get people shouting waste of money...you NEED a squad. you NEED cover.. at the moment its Whyte and Murphy are a waste..it was Nelson. no doubt the pendulum will swing again and others will be wastes again...but if you want a good team no matter if its Warnock, harris or someone else if the players down the pecking order are poor when you get injuries your team will be poor...is that really what people want ?
now take your hate glasses off and try looking at it from more than one view...cost money not a superstar = waste..really doesn't work mate
I don’t have an agenda and I don’t hate warnock. He worked miracles at this club and will always be remembered for what he did. Doesn’t change the fact though that performances/football were shit this season and that his money signings have contributed very little to the first team. His success at this club doesn’t change that and I’ll say it as I see it.
I don’t think you get the point I was making. Warnock spent a considerable amount of money on players that didn’t play. I understand that a squad needs to be strong but how is buying players and loaning them out improving the squad or good business? Yea vaulks played Saturday, under Harris and not Warnock. Another player not given a chance despite an underperforming midfield. With the amount of money he spent on those players mentioned we should have seen them play much more than they have done.
come on mate. you seem to be arguing the poster not the issues. and its on every single issue..being fair is not tinted its just being fair... yes I loved NW but was also probably the first or one of to accept haris on here while others had minor meltdowns... and will no doubt in a few months time be seeing harris point of view while people slag him off over rubbish..
Warnock bought a keeper and a full back who hardly played.. it was very small money for that league. very small ,as it turned out we didn't need that cover but what if we had ? one was loaned out and the other almost loaned out because both wanted 1st team football and we no longer needed that level of cover...
this year its Vaulks { talk about a no win situation } yes he was played by harris, because of injury as would have happened with the 2 earlier mentioned last season had there been injuries . re Vaulks its exactly where we would be if NW was still here { playing due to injuries } ..but had NW not bought this { apparent waste of money } player we wouldn't have the cover and he wouldn't be getting a chance here. the notion that every player should be given a chance is mad, sorry. its a professional football team not the local under 9s..managers pick what they view as their best team { vaulks was in neither managers best 11 but will now get a chance it seems } . please look around, all clubs sign squad players and relatively cheap take a punt/gamble players who then rarely play. its really not a case of giving chances they earn them through working hard in training , being patient and grasping any opportunity that comes their way..
as for our early season form. you just can not have a seemless transition losing 4 or 5 first team players.. and then lose who you see as a key player { Reid } and your keeper on the opening day .. some people expected miracles. the football itself was no different to our promotion year. it looked awful if we lost but ok when we won. and tbh is no better now. it might well get better but right now I don't think it is . results are better though and long may that last because personally I don't much care if we have 70% possession or pass it around in our half I just want us to win..
