It is a very attractive job for any manager other than the big big names. Why would you think Derby and Rangers can attract the likes of Gerrard and Lampard but we couldn't?
I agree with this and the OP clearly understates the stature of this club. He also underestimates the number of 'quality' managers currently out of work and itching for a shot at proving the doubters wrong
The more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to think City's decision makers have been a little smart in their thinking by appointing a manager who can work with the style of player we currently have
I'm going to give him a chance and I will get behind the team as vociferously as I always do in the hope that Neil 'Arris can get thusxseasin back on track

Can you explain how you are any bigger now than 15years ago? You are a Championship club, (known around the world for being in the Premiership LOL) Big stadium,But only half full LOL.Of course people will remember you for being bottom of the Premiership for you whole season there.FFS face facts your in the bottom half of the Championship and may yet be fighting relegation, just about the the situation that would attract the Joe average manager.

What’s the stature of the club then?
It seems the stature of Cardiff City as a club is wildly different within the city than it is for the rest of the worlds population.
Cardiff won a single trophy in the 1920’s, 26 years after Victorian times, 15 years after the Titanic disaster and 9 years after World War 1 where soldiers were still fighting on horseback. There are few few, if any, Cardiff fans that go today that remember it.
It has had 2 top flight visits in the last half a century, relegated each time at the first attempt. For the majority of the last 60 years it has had attendances that resemble figures that hover around 8,000, often dipping below 3,000 and 4,000. It has one of the worst away followings in the league and latest figures showed high levels of debt with very small naturally generated income (without PL money).
Why people within Cardiff insist on bizarrely pretending the club is massive and constantly having to reassure each other that the fantasy they have created with each other is actually reality is beyond me.

As for those saying we are a big club.... Wake up there are at least 35 clubs bigger than us just in England never mind on a world level.
I travel a lot in Germany and Belgium with work and nobody knows us.

I don't think the number of trophies won decides what makes a big club. I have never thought of Leicester, Blackburn or even Nottingham Forest as big clubs, even though they have all won some big competitions during my time of following the game. The big clubs are fairly obvious and I think most know who they would be. I think of us as a medium size club with some potential, but we would need a prolonged stay in the PL if we are ever to get close to realising that potential. I agree with the poster who said there are plenty of people living overseas who have never heard of us, but that is not surprising, I spend a few months most years in the States, and there are people there who have never even heard of Wales, and many of the ones who have heard of us think Wales is somewhere in England.

I was agreeing with you. It's impossible to say whether or not there are 35 clubs bigger than us, because we all have different ideas on what makes a big club. Like I mentioned earlier, even though Forest have been European champions twice as well as league winners, and Leicester have done brilliantly in recent years, in my mind they are both similar size clubs to us. I expect some would say they are bigger because of recent successes, but despite Leeds for example lacking in everything for a long time now, I would still say they are a far bigger club than Leicester with far more potential of long term success, and can certainly draw in the fans.

had the bloke said 20 or even 25...but 35 Steve..
so I asked.. …..personally I don't go along with the trophy count either if for no other reason it puts West Ham who are a big club way down the list..

It is a very attractive job for any manager other than the big big names. Why would you think Derby and Rangers can attract the likes of Gerrard and Lampard but we couldn't?
Exactly. The fact that they have gone for Harris is a worrying indication that Tan is intent on getting some of his money back. A bigger name would have been interested but would have demanded a chunk of the parachute payment over the next two transfer windows. Neil Harris is an out of work manager who realistically would otherwise be looking at a League One club for his next job.
The only activity we will see in the next transfer window is the wrong way. Expect the side will be dismantled in the same way that Slade was instructed to do.
Mon Nov 18, 2019 1:26 pm
my point exatly a lot of people said harris wouldn't be there choice saying that's a disgusting welcome is laughableRV Casual wrote:Don't be so dramatic, its just a forum. He has had no such thing as a 'disgusting welcome'.
His welcome will be at the stadium and when he meets fans in and around the area.
I have said myself I am disappointed and underwhelmed that doesn't mean that I have given our new manager a 'disgusting' welcome, if I go to Charlton which is 50/50 at the moment I will give him the biggest cheer I can, sing his name and support him like I would any manager of Cardiff City Football Club. He will be open to the same level of support or criticism as those that have gone before him.
Its an internet forum where we can discuss the pros and cons of the team, manager whatever it may be, we are never going to all sing from
the same hymn sheet as fans as we are all different, with varying opinions, that's what makes forums great places to discuss things.
The day that ends and people aren't honest is the day Football Forums will no longer have a place.
