I think in the gaffers tradition we may sign a striker thats done well in league 1/2 looking to make the step up.Spunkin loads on a big name player is not always a recipe for success.

I know people will say that we have Bobby Reid but you still need someone who is useful in the air. A bit of a Target man. I know Dwight Gayle is similar but he would definitely score 15-25 goals in the Championship. NW keeps saying that the club are trying hard to bring a striker in well its time for them to pay the going rate to bring one in so that we don’t end up like last summer & regret the consequences. Come on City.

You do understand it's not like walking into a retail store, where you pick up a set of socks, maybe a T-Shirt and possibly a snazzy jacket......take them to the till and pay the asking price?

There are so many variables in a football transfer of which the majority are out of the buying club's control.

I'm sure the club are doing their best, if it doesn't happen it's not necessarily the club's fault. Be patient my friend. :bluebird:

Everyone understands that it’s not an easy business hence making a comparison with a retail store is unrealistic. However when the club admitted themselves after last summer that they messed up not bringing a striker in you would have thought that a striker would have been at the top of the shopping list this summer. Other clubs manage to sign strikers so there is no excuse for not getting deals done. Don’t want to pay the going rate? Hopefully we will get a top striker in before the deadline however if we don’t the club need to be questioned about their ambition/lack of if they are serious about promotion. To date all the players that have come in have not exceeded the fees received for outgoing payments & there is the parachute payment available.

Warnock has the right attitude - spending willy nilly is what we slated Ole for.

Andy Carroll is a good shout on a one year contract.

I’d rather go with Bogle than get someone in who would be on silly wages and probably be out for the majority of the season.

What I took out of that Interview was that we are not any nearer to signing a striker than we were before we started.

I'm still puzzled why we are signing another Winger (Whyte) thou.

Because Warnock likes to play with two wingers and the club only have three.
Easy really.

Going by that logic the squad is complete

3 keepers
4 full backs
5 centre backs
6 midfielders
4 wingers
4 strikers

After this winger comes in I think our business is done

You do realise Dwight Gayle is valued at £20mill don’t you? Do you honestly think we are going to be spending that sort of money on a striker?
Even IF we did offer £20mill and IF Newcastle accepted the bid and IF we did offer him the £55k a week he’s on, do you think he would want to come here? Newcastle have a new manager so he’s probably hoping to impress him and play premier league football next season.

Some people on here seriously need to wake up.

No, going by that logic the squad is not necessarily complete at all.
Warnock wants to improve on the squad and also shift a couple out. If he can’t do that then the squad is complete.
Unfortunately, for me, I don’t think the current squad is quite good enough.

Gayle is a player who has consistently looked good at this level and not good enough in the premier league.

Yes, new manager might want to keep him, but lets not pretend that signing him is out of the question

Don't know what his valuation is, but it certainly won't be decided by Google. His value will be decided by his club, and how much a potential purchaser is willing to pay. I take the on line valuations with a pinch of salt. We saw valuations of Zohore range from £2m to £15m over the course of a season or two.

I don't talk the club down. I constantly praise Warnock, and have said numerous times that I like the way Tan is running the club, and the fact that he is trying to put the club on a sound financial footing. I believe they are doing everything correctly, and it is not a case of running the club down, it is a case of being realistic. I said I had no idea what Gayle is worth, but I have seen enough of him to know he is capable of doing a job at a higher level than we are at present. If we had survived last season, I would agree that we may be the sort of club he would consider, if his club were looking to sell. I don't think we have the slightest sniff of persuading him to join Cardiff at Championship level, not at this stage of his career anyway.

I based it on Arter being our top earner in the PL on a reported £40k a week. I can't see us paying the salary Gayle would demand while we are in the Championship, and I am not sure we would spend £15m on one player while we are in the Championship, considering Sala would have been our record signing for the same amount but in the PL. I think the only way we could get this sort of player would be on loan for a season.

I was not specifically saying to sign Dwight Gayle but a quality proven striker. Gayle was used as an EXAMPLE. Yes they cost money but if that’s the price you pay for success then so be it. The alternative is to take a gamble on an unknown player at this level & hope it comes off. The point that I was trying to make was the fact that IF you buy someone LIKE GAYLE you are more or less guaranteed goals.

Some people on here say/think they understand but in reality they have no idea of how things work.

I know exactly how things work. Just because I like many other fans would like to see a decent proven goal scorer being signed up then all of a sudden the ‘we know best brigade’ seem to come out of the woodwork because it doesn’t fit in with their opinion as they know everything that’s best for the club. Everyone is entitled to have an opinion & they should be respected. I believe that the club need to bring in a decent striker others may not. We have parachute funds available & I for one would like us challenging for promotion again. To make our chances better a striker would be beneficial. The name Dwight Gayle as a proven scorer was used as an EXAMPLE.

The club are believed to be closing in on a new signing in the form of Oxford United winger Gavin Whyte, but Warnock still has his heart set on a getting another striker over the line.

However, although targets have been identified, he admits there is currently nothing imminent.

"I'm not just going to sign anybody for the sake of it. We have got two major targets but at the moment I'm afraid neither of them we can say we've got a good chance of getting them.

"If you could give me two or three players this week I'd be absolutely delighted because I don't think we've got enough to think about automatic promotion."

Warnock is set to cast the net beyond the UK this summer, and insists the club's hierarchy are working flat out to bring the right man on board, although there are potential back-up options available.

"There's not a lot around [in the UK]," he added. "So we've got to do what we can. We got £8m with Ken and I know people will say you shouldn't sell him until you've got someone, but I just felt he needed the change and we did.

"It's not as easy as you think but we are working really hard. This morning I had meetings galore and calls, you name it.

NEIL WARNOCK:

"He's [Whyte] one of those we've talked about and I'm hoping we can bring two or maybe even three in this week if I can," he said after the win over Nice.

"I might have to forego certain areas. I'm really looking at strike force more than anything and we haven't had much luck, it's no good saying we're near. We aren't that near.

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I couldn’t be happier with how it’s gone overall. All four games have been what we wanted. They have all been physically hard – it was really hot out there against a really good side."

Getting a bit fed up now ,hes got money go and get a decent striker ffs

Totally agree Wez.

His tone was squad players not specific type players ! So being pessimistic that's what we'll get not an out and out striker we need? we certainly can afford one so should be his one and only priority, anyone else is a bonus

You're right but also signing a striker that's done well in League1/2 is very rarely a recipe for success for us anyway.

Eion Doyle and Alex Ravell immediately spring to mind.

Personally I think two midfielders are a priority as I think Reid and bogle with ward as back up can do a job for us.
