The best we can do is sign a striker with potential to be a goal scorer at Championship level which means either taking a punt on lower league strikers, find a gem from overseas or loan a young player from a top PL side.

Why? we should have money enough available to spend

Money is not the only variable. The 'proven goalscorer' would have to want to come to Cardiff over other clubs such as Leeds etc. not to mention lower half PL sides.

But getting back to money it guarantees nothing. Gary Madine was a supposed proven Championship goal scorer who cost £6m yet we still wait his first goal in any competition 20 months after he signed and just about no-one would be happy to go into this season with him as our main striker.

are leeds signing every striker in the division then?

we are one of the better prospects in the league, one of the better payers as well i imagine. a good opportunity for any striker. and Madine has never been a proven championship scorer has he? hes never scored goals in this league with the exception of the half a season at bolton. and i think most of them were penalties.

Leeds were just an example of the food chain which unfortunately we are a lot further down than most of our fans would like to admit. It is a sad fact that players generally don't want to come here for a number of reasons.

We might be a good prospect in your eyes but that is not what counts. It is the opinion of the agent/player that counts and generally CCFC is viewed as a move only if there is nothing else.

Madine at the time of his transfer was seen as the answer to our goal scoring problems. He was having a great season at Bolton in a struggling side and was available. But he is also the reason why we should not throw money at a problem as you suggest.

who are all these players that are turning us down though :laughing6: not sure where this rhetoric has come from. are we the biggest and best club in our ability level? probably not, but i cant imagine theres scores of people turning their nose up at us.

You mention leeds, but lets be honest the place is a shit hole. we have an excellent city, excellent facilities etc. money compared to most around us. and as much potential as anyone else to get promoted.

We might not be the only option for players, but we are an attractive one. and to suggest otherwise is bizzare.

Now you are splitting hairs. Of course I can't answer the question on who is turning us down as I am not privy to that information. However, NW himself has said he has a list of players who he works through. That infers that some of the players on that list have gone else where and of course Marko Grujic famously turned us down to play for Hertha BSC.

As for Leeds again that is your opinion which unfortunately for us is not important. What is important is the opinion of the agent/player and Leeds on a football scale is far more high profile than CCFC whether we like it or not.

Tony, when I was involved with the club and close friends with the then chairman, what you have said above was a constant problem. There were a number of times when the club thought they had all but secured a contract with a player, only to see them go elsewhere at the last minute. To be fair, we were not an attractive club at the time, and were struggling on and off the pitch. However, we are not as appealing to players as some fans might think, and while we may look at ourselves as a big club, that is not the way we are generally perceived throughout most of England. In fact, I know that many fans now consider Swansea to be a superior club to us, which I suppose is not surprising considering where both clubs have spent the majority of the last decade.

I think your all over thinking it, players are pretty simple, they first and foremost go where the money is. Some like playing under certain managers or prefer certain areas to live but most of all they all want money and as much as possible.

Why do all other clubs seem to manage to sign qaulity players except cardiff,
and if we have a good scouting policy we should end up buying a quality striker not a dud, thats what the scouts are for and this is where investing in a good quality trustworthy scout pays dividends.

Ahhh .... living life in monty’s simple and fluffy world! ;)

The answer to your constant questions are answered in almost countless threads and posts on this forum.
And ‘all other clubs seem to manage to sign quality players except Cardiff’??

Do you really thing that all clubs are doing this? Come on, that’s laughable even by your standards mate!

Do you think we’re the only club that makes a mistake like Madine or we’re the only club that struggles at times to get the right players at the right price?

Of course this is correct Steve and I think Tony Blue Williams has answered the questions perfectly and won the ‘debate’ hands down.
For many, many Cardiff is this little club down in the backwater of Wales where it constantly rains and there’s nothing much there but old coal mines and sheep. Unless the money is higher I think most would choose ‘more attractive’ English clubs first.

No mate I’m not picking up on every comment you make because I can’t understand most of them but you bang on and on about the same thing and you get the same answers from many.
Let’s just wait and see in the next two weeks and perhaps we’ll all be happy.

And no it wasn’t my ‘prodiction’ that we were going to finish in the top 10 last season.
I think you may be talking about the self obsessed sir jimmy scoular who stated that.

Mate, if you read my various posts I actually agree with a lot of what you say. I also believe we need another 2 players of quality but unlike you I know how the system works. I know it’s not as easy as you think it is and that’s the reason I don’t go on & on about the same subject.

Yes, of course it’s a forum for discussion and that’s exactly what you & I are doing. I’m trying to answer your questions as are many others but you seem incapable of understanding.

Further down the food chain than Leeds? Cardiff have been knocking on the door of the premier league for the last 10 years, and have made it twice. Yet you think playing for Leeds holds more appeal? Apart from Bielsa Leeds dont have anything that would make Leeds more attractive than Cardiff.
