Couldn't score in a brothel - dont touch him with a bargepole!

bloody hell brooks went for 12 million i know he's not a striker but he was' nt a waste of money either.
Add zohore to that aswell, useless for almost 2 seasons....

I would take a gamble on him at around £5mill, no more than that. He may well rip the championship apart but he would be a gamble, his wages also would have to drop drastically.
He works his ass off but his first touch and finish were awful last season

why take a gamble on 5 million
That could be used towards a striker that now's the object of the game is to stick it in the net and score

Because at £5mill I doubt you would get better than him, all strikers at that price would be a gamble because they would probably be coming from a lower league.
Can you name somebody we can get for that price who is better than him who would not be seen as a gamble?
Wed May 29, 2019 6:47 pm
He would score goals in the championship
Wouldn't spend 10m on him though, and he's apparently on 60k a week so not possible
Wed May 29, 2019 6:57 pm
I thought and came round to agreeing that the general consensus on here was that the way we play we will never have a striker that scores a hatfull under Warnock.

maccydee wrote:Personally I think he would rip the Championship apart and him and Reid would be amazing.
However not at 56,000 a week.
What if we don't pay him a salary but £56k per goal instead

Totally agree! If we could negotiate a significant drop in wages then I’d take him

SirJimmySchoular wrote:That option doesn't really count any more for obvious reasons.
In the real world £4m/5m plus reduced salary and I'd like to see him stay.
The problem is that he might want to sit there and collect till his contract's gone.
Good shout
Maybe they could calculate his remaining salary at Everton and subtract it , or half of it, from the fee.
It'd be a good move for all parties

he might change it next year. but as it stands I think this is correct. where they are expected to be to receive or more often battle for the ball quite simply are not danger areas...
its more about the overall balance and getting points than having someone score 15/20 ..
think some people are over concerned about this 15 goal a season striker you must have...
our top scorer in our promotion season finished 22nd in the divisions top scorer list..
and finished 36 th the year we went up with MM.....we won the league but each and every club in that division had someone who had scored more than our top scorer...

A resounding NO

i said put the 5 million towards getting a striker it could be 10 or 15 not buying one for 5 mill.

For me I’d be a little creative on the salary front:
£35,000 per week
With a £2m promotion bonus
That could totally exceed what he is on now without the risk
Easy enough to say when it’s not your cash: big NO from me, bound to be better out there for 10 mil who would take 20 k a week, like that genk striker
Thu May 30, 2019 5:16 am
No way. Couldn't score in a brothel.
Thu May 30, 2019 6:49 am
If very lower wages then yes but we need more goals from midfielders to chip in so we really need to spend well there imo.

I’m not so sure.
He will have to drop his salary by a huge amount and then there’s the fact that he didn’t score a single goal whilst here.
Yes, he may well become good playing in a league lower but for 10mill it’s a no for me.
I was only joking
No way of knowing that.
Did you see him play? Thought it would have been pretty obvious

Reading some of the comments on here about niasse suprises me, (everyone is entitled to their opinion) being a striker his job is to score goals and for us he was dreadful. I think we need two strikers, i would keep ward and off load healey and that useless lump zahore.

its all about how we set up...under this manager we play tight have low possession and spend the larger part of the game in our half nullifying the threat of better players than we have ...but have done much better than anyone thought we would...
to change that its not as simple as taking a player out of one area and inserting a replacement further up the field and then just cross your fingers that losing the player will work and not create huge spaces, the ethos would have to change along with a lot of the personnel .. as for its his job..yes of course its nice if they score, but if the manager decides whats best for the team is your striker dragging defenders wide or playing 35 yrds out with bck to goal as a target...its not then his main job...our strikers do not miss lots of chances because they are not in the danger areas enough, because they are doing as told...
personally im far more concerned about winning games than whether little jonny has scored..its not under 9s.

I don't think he would, he had lots of chances at Everton, and we had some opportunities for him to score, he just passed it to someone else, he's not a natural Striker and needs too many chances per goal, we could get better for less.

No matter how we set up, he passes to someone else, it's like he's scared to try and score.

May do well as a foil for Reid and Murphy.. his movement tires defenders out. Not at that price tho..

Do you think his first touch and finishing would improve in the championship because I dont. He is a trier with little or no skill and even if he was free I'd still say no.
I'm just glad you are not in charge of the money because it would be a total waste and take us back to what we did with other players.
Thu May 30, 2019 11:37 am
Id take him on loan and pay a third of his wages. Option to buy for 5 mill if scores over 15 goals and we get promoted.
To be honest I think there is better out there in league one. Gary Madiene will score at champ level.
Thu May 30, 2019 2:26 pm
I thought we definatly played and looked better when we got him, but we need our striker to score goals which he didnt.
Thu May 30, 2019 3:35 pm
Where was he for the last 2 games? I'm sure he was not injured, maybe Warnock juts got fed up with him.
He won't come here for such massive drop in wages when he can go abroad , China for example, and earn big money. We can't afford him and he hardly set the world alight when he was here. I'd put Zohore in ahead of him every time. at least he scored one goal last season!
Thu May 30, 2019 3:44 pm
I can't believe there are people who actually appear to be sane and actually want to sign this player even for £5 million and half the wages he is on now. The ones that do admit he can't score goals his first touch is rubbish and he is unaware of what is going on around him. The theory seems to be dropping down a division will suddenly transform him into a hard working goal machine. There is absolutely no evidence for this. Everton are trying to unload him to a club in Turkey ideally who have never seen him play and will assume that just because they paid £13 million for him he must be good. Let them find out the hard way like we did.
