Clubfortyfourer wrote:I believe our fight to stay in the Premiership was lost when Tan didn’t invest in a striker in the Summer transfer window, Vincent Tan deliberately didn’t back Warnock in the Summer, where other clubs were showing statements of intent, Cardiff dithered and left it to late, Troy deeney at that time was available and was unhappy at Watford,he was Warnock’s type of player player as well as Rondon at Newcastle , but Tan would not back Warnock with the £30 million or was it Warnock’s bargain basement loan signings and Canny free transfers.

Tan was hoping Warnock could get players here on the cheap on loan, whatever it was, no strikers came, the Summer transfer clock had run out of time,Tan believed that Warnock would keep us up, whatever it took, we were left with no Striker, Warnock using a defender Callum Patterson as a striker, this took the piss for me ! We were back in the promised land, this time I thought we would stay in top flight football for years to come. Fans paying and giving their all of hard earned cash to get to away games, wherever it was, Independently, myself on night matches booking up hotels and train tickets to get to wherever it was, Brighton, Arsenal, Manchester City, and many other away matches on organised coaches, we all put an incredible effort in and we created that backing and atmosphere for our beloved “Cardiff City,”

I was proud we were in the Premier league and was so excited and we sung our hearts out wherever we went, it was very special, and enjoyable. However it seemed we lacked quality and I had the feeling for the first time, we didn’t have the quality
we were blown away by established Premier clubs ,and we showed no fight. We had a Championship side playing World class teams, this was down to lack of preparation, an example would be Wolves and Watford, preparing for the season ahead with quality signings. Cardiff got found out and we struggled on till the January transfer window, then a new name got branded about the club a Nantes FC Argentinian footballer Emilanio Sala,he looked quality at a cost of £30 million, Wow ! I thought finally Tan is backing Warnock, then the awful tragic news hit all Cardiff fans, with Emilano Sala’s plane had crashed into the sea and Emilano couldn’t be found, eventually we had the news that his body had been found, Emilano’s family had suffered so much pain and our brilliant fans felt their pain showing amazing tributes,we cried with them. A terrible time for all involved,
The remainder of the season Cardiff limped on with a loan signing from Everton “Oumar Niasse” his return of goals was slow and scoring one goal, Warnock’s selections were sometimes bizarre, even after a winning a match, he changed the side the next game, this must have been unsettling for the team, it showed no consistency and also are results showed the same, now it felt we were fighting the relegation drop,we won at Brighton and hope came back, but then a defeat at Burnley and another luck lustre and another odd selection by Warnock give us another defeat, now I thought relegation to the Championship was finally inevitable,I arrived at our home match against Crystal Palace, like other City fans who went to Fulham I felt deflated and worn out from our long hard season ,all City fans had been through the ringer, it felt strange at our final home game,I couldn’t get going, I think I felt emotionally drained and extremely let down by the club for not showing ambition at the start of the season.
I like many of other loyal City fans give everything emotionally, home and away, I believe Vincent Tan has not backed our fans and he is not the right owner to reestablish and sustain Cardiff City as a top flight football club.

Alternatively the careful spending during the summer could be down to a more long term plan of slowly building depth into the squad, unlike Fulham who spent their entire PL TV revenue, and being prepared to yoyo between the Championship and PL until we have a squad with REAL depth in ALL positions allowing a realistic chance of not just staying, but staying for years to come.

VT as owner has a record second to none, the two PL promotions are testament to that and as for supporting NW well the £15m on Sala shows he was more than willing to do that.

Zero respect for the man, who has singlehandedly kept this club afloat financially :?: Is it a red thing? Not being funny, just curious :?: I just wondered when the division amongst fans will heal regards VT,or if for some the wound will stay infected,as long as he is in charge? I had my doubts when he did the colour change, but he has put that right,we ,well I,have enjoyed our flirt with the prem,in our blue,as I said I would at the start of the season, and tan has ,for me at least, gone a long way to build bridges. :old: :bluebird:

100% a rebrand thing. Maybe zero respect is a stretch, at least he eventually listened to reason. 5% respect for that, 0% for the fan advisors that told him to crack on with it. That's more like it.

I was told many times he was advised NOT to go ahead with the rebrand.

I well believe that because during that horrid time most of the management at the club showed an uncomfortable face to it all. Only him and Steve Borley showed any signs of loving the red. One or two fans went along with it for their own enjoyment but their opinions don't matter now as they don't follow the club anymore.

Anyway back to the OP and has Tan let us down? I also have no respect for the guy but I'm finding it difficult to blame him for our relegation. Only question I have is could he have funded that striker we needed? The money I heard that was available was simple not enough to bring in that player. Was it Tan putting that limitation on it or was he advised he had offered enough? Guess we will never know.

One thing I will conclude is I believe he is not the guy to take us further. His CV of 2 promotions 2 immediate relegations shows that. Do i blame him for it all? Not really if his first experience of the Premier is anything to go by. However you look at it I just don't think he is the guy to take that risk and dig into his pockets to ensure we survive in the Premier if ever we get back there.

the negative is we lasted just the 1 year twice.
the positive its the only twice since the early 60s and no other owner has got close really, most were miles off.
yes a new billionaire more enthusiastic would be fantastic , realistically we have always had problems getting people interested so maybe this is the best we will ever get..

Warnock wanted Troy- Deeney, Warnock stated at the time he was his type of player, Troy Deeney was out of favour with the Watford manager, Warnock believed he was his type of player, as well as Ron-don who was also available.
Cardiff weren’t quick enough in signing a striker in the Summer, leaving it too late and then struggling through till the January transfer window without a striker ,Patterson was also not the answer,he was out of his depth. Not good preparation where other clubs were better prepared to start the Premiership season. Again the final decision was down to Tan he holds the purse strings.
If you think it was good preparation, as I said, “Usual deluded suspects” posting deluded comments , who think their Cardiff City super fans.
“Delusion of grandeur” comes to mind.

I think the deluded people are the ones who think buying a player is like going shopping in Tescos. Ever thought that not every player wants to come to Cardiff? Lost count of the number of times we have been turned down during the last 50 years whatever division we have been in. There are 91 other teams, and we are rarely first choice when a player of real quality becomes available.
