I've worked in Cardiff and paid tax and council tax all my working life.
How does having a game of football between an English club and am Italian club who mean nothing to me be of any benefit to me as a citizen of Cardiff?
I can see the benefit for all the pubs, clubs and shops in the city centre, who also get a financial boost every time there's a concert, rugby game or other event in the town centre but I'm struggling to see how the normal Cardiff resident benefits in any way from these events?

Because it puts money in to our local economy.
People from Cardiff will earn more money from people outside of Cardiff. They will then spend that money in lots of different places in Cardiff maybe somewhere where you work so you might in turn benefit from it.
Or you could just be a miserable asshole and moan and think any events that don’t interest you should be held elsewhere because unless you have a pub in the town centre or own the stadium you won’t benefit.

its not any event though its football and this is a football clubs messageboard..
your not wrong about it bringing in money. although ive always had huge doubts about figures being bandied about. lots will watch and go home others will spend in chains where the money does not stay here...
but purely on football...most of us nailed our colours to the mast and became Bluebirds forever during one specific game and that's the case for lots of fans of lots of clubs..so although its coming anyway I wish it was not. if they are going to be Man Utd fans at least they should have to go to old traford and not put it on a plate ..

It’s a one off friendly with two of the most famous teams in the world.
Why can’t it just be enjoyed by people who want to enjoy it?
The only reason it’s getting people riled up is because it’s Man Utd playing. If it was AC Milan vs PSG I doubt there would be a problem.
Forget Man Utd how many people on here have gotten to see AC Milan play in the flesh. An you all get the added bonus to shout you jack b*stard at Fabio Borini if plays.

of course it wouldnt be a problem if it was two foreign teams..thats the point..
South Wales is not full of Welsh psg/ac milan fans or is it likely to be.
United play these games all over the place for a reason..and its not to boost local economies.

I didn't mean that to come accross harsh so apologies if it did.
Sometimes though you just need to look at the positives, people look at what something can do for them these days rather than the bigger picture that's all.

Can say same about the snooker darts gb rally all events which have very little to do with the residents of cardiff but do benefit businesses in and around cardiff! Great example is UEFA champions league businesses for upto a hundred miles away benefited from the event .... but still find it strange to hold man u game in Cardiff maybe its the neutrality aspect?
