It's not just a case of the PL saying here is a £100m, and Tan then splashing out £20m there and £15m here on new players. He also has wages to pay, agents fees to cover, plus all the normal expenses that any business owner will be aware of such as business rates, taxes, insurances and numerous other expenses. If just a quarter of that £100m is paid in salaries, we are already close to being in debt before a penny is spent on buying players or paying the day to day running costs of the club. If I remember correctly, the last set of published figures showed the club being £80m in debt, and completely reliant on Tan for payrolling the club. Not sure what the present debt is as I think he may have converted some of that debt into shares, but you can bet that it is still a huge amount. Plenty of money for being in the PL, but the costs go up as well. Take a look at the profits/losses the PL clubs made last time, most would not have made a huge dent in our debts, and if Tan had not carried out his debt conversions, would have been no more than loose change. If it was easy to make big profits by running a PL club, I am sure Tan would be getting a lot of offers from all over the world. He is a businessman who will take calculated risks, he will not be thinking as a fan as he had probably never heard of this club until he was asked to step in and save it.

good sensible post but unfortunately it will fall on deaf ears with quite a few.. the fact is that many of those screaming spend are also those that in between windows beat the debt drum the hardest. on this very thread you have one poster claiming the debt was caused by Tan himself being foolish and another saying he can only redeem himself by spending more money a claim which no doubt he will repeat in the summer. some people will not be happy until he is replaced by someone worse..

In My Opinion:

There can No excuses regarding money to pay wages and even without these players going out, with the big money City have and are receiving for being in the Premier League, we should be strengthening anyway if Cardiff want to stay up in the Premier League.


I know there are those who say we should not spend etc but if relegated we are not guaranteed to return, No club ever are and it won’t encourage our support to keep backing our club in such massive numbers .

Have Stuart O'Keefe & Mark Harris returned from Plymouth & County I know these wouldn't be on big money but every little helps tht comes off the wage bill
