Re: ' The Wales-England World Cup debate '

I am like many others on here. it's not so much the football team or fans, it's the media that really gets on my nerves. Must have been about 8 pages in the Mirror on how England beat the mighty Panama, and I have just watched the BBC trying to work out possible semi-final opponents. Looks like all the teams are wasting their time being in Russia and may as well come home now. England have the trophy safely sewn up already, why not just present them with it now and give all the players a longer Summer break. Of course, the same thing happens in every competition they play in, and it is almost like the media don't realise that it always end in tears, and has done in every tournament during the last half century.

Yes, we (Wales) are England's first colony but not by choice, through some miracle we are still alive as a nation.
Why would we support England? Would a Spaniard support France?

Totally agree. Look forward to seeing their arrogance smashed. Also, they share the worst possible national anthem with n.Ireland - war, God and crushing the Scots.
Their blydi fans even sing Rule Britannia like the last night of the Proms. C'mon anyone else!

i just cant possibly bring myself to support them and as mentioned about its mainly the media and the fans.

Actually find myself liking a lot of the players they have, and think Sterling especially has been treated awfully by the media. wasnt long ago Kane was a bit of a laughing stock and now no one mentiones a goal coming off his heal!

Personally want them to smash Belgium though, just to ramp up the hype train - they will lose to Japan :ayatollah:

I can’t even bring myself to watch their matches which is so sad as I’m of an age Were l remember 66 and feeling gutted in 70 when they threw away a two goal lead against the Germans, and for me it’s a number of things,Wales were never anymore than also rans there to make up the numbers a jolly for the players staff and administrators, but since the time of Mike Smith things changed and ok it took many years to reach were we did in France but because of it l know see England as rivals something you could never do back then. Then we come on to the press nothing to say there it’s all been said their arrogance knows no bounds, and of course the desperation of a nation so obsessed with the beautiful game that they have radio and tv channels dedicated to football 24/7,what they conveniently forget is for a hundred years or so until they pulled out of the home international tournament Scotland were their football rivals despite having a population fifteen times bigger there wasn’t a massive amount more England victories,so for me there won’t be any congratulations if they win the World Cup rather l would ask were the f**k you been for over 50 years.

I'm English and understand a Cardiff/Swansea/Newport etc fan wanting England to fail because of the rivalry(Even though its definetly one way) . Those that support Liverpool/Chelsea/Man u Etc who go from referring to their chosen club as "we" to hating everything English with a passion, I find pretty embarassing

Do tell when the cutoff point is where you're allowed to feel anger and emotion in regards to a topic then.. nobody allowed to feel hatred towards the nazis or emotion in regards to ww 1 or 2 as they've 'only read about it' as well im guessing? :banghead:

Well the nazis were less then 100 years ago, there's people alive today who's have heard horror stories from family members.
England colonising Wales was about 700 years and it doesn't affect no Welshman today or their parents or grandparents.

Anyone bitter and angry about that need to grow up.

I’ve no issue with England at all. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the banter but when push comes to
Shove I’d like them to do well. I support all British teams. I consider myself Welsh and British so all good with me. I was very heartened to see how both sets of fans grouped together so well at the euros especially in the fact of significant Russian fan hostility. We have English friends. We have English family. Being proud of our heritage as welsh people doesn’t mean we have to despise a nation. A nation of people that just happened to be born over the other side of an invisible border.

You really don't need to look back all those years you know. Swansea Tidal Lagoon, Airbus, Rail electrification etc etc and that's just this year! Oh, and by the way they took Draig Goch down from the Welsh Office today and put up St George's Cross because England are playing...we're still nothing more than a colony mate, they do what they want....

Should we forget Capel Celyn?? There are plenty of modern day examples of England running rough shod over Wales but hey we should let it go.

Slavery in the states was over 100 years ago why not go tell them to move on forget about it it doesn't affect anyone now.

Just imagine the stick we will get in away matches next season if they won it.

They already sing about an elderly German lady every time.

The clowns in America should move on. No white person alive has ever owned a slave and no black person alive was a slave.
