Don't think its quite that much but i'm sure it was over 40.
How much did the red seats add to the old capacity ? I'd guess it would be similar to that.

Please please Tan if we go up change those hideous red seats blue I beg you. Can someone get this message to him personally.

I'd think it should be more than that - the new stand added 5k seats I believe? Seems like we should add more than 2k seats each end if we expanded?

It's an extra 3,000 each end so not to much.

Re: Expanding capacity

Stay as we are. We will not be in the Prem forever IF we go up, the stadium will look even more empty when the fair weather fans leave.

Re: Expanding capacity

Tue May 01, 2018 7:35 am

Apparently it has the capacity to add an extra 5k each end above the goal. So that's about 45k-ish.

I don't think we'd ever need that much, even after ten years in the prem.

It was nothing like as much as that. Maybe 5k for both ends but not each and that would include going around the corners. I'm sure the new tier added 12 or 13 rows but you lost 4 or so rows at the back of the lower tier to accommodate it. To put into perspective level 5 in the new Ninian holds under 4,000 and its 19 rows deep I think.

Only future European Champions like Wolves who will need 100k stadiums, and even then will probably still be too small for a side about to grow bigger than Barcelona. ;)

youve got this back to front..the longer your in the top tier the bigger your core support becomes.

Re: Expanding capacity

Just do it if we fill it or not at least it will be a unique stadium to us and not a one tier bowl like most. People on here saying its ridiculous as if they were funding it. who gives a shit.

Sam said we could be bigger than Barca, and the Liberty would be a nice little stadium for our ladies team :laughing6:

Always think of that when I hear anything about the Liberty :laughing6:

the stadium would look very impressive if it had another 8k added, it would look good if they mirrored the red seats on the opposite side. :bluescarf: :bluescarf: if we can fill it that is

Don't think the grandstand can be extended ( or it would take a lot of work )

The canton & grange end can be extended though :thumbright:

I didn't mean red, even though I see i wrote mirror', but I mean mirror it as a structure, not colour.

It would depend if we managed to stay a long time in the top division.the best supported clubs are the ones who have spent most of their time in the top division either recently or historically.

Re: Expanding capacity

Its about timing. What's largely been a white elephant for 4 years could turn into a shrewd investment over 90 minutes on Sunday. Construction costs are increasing significantly year on year. Its not the cost of steel or concrete or indeed excessive wages or profiteering. Its the cost of hot air largely, we now pay people considerable money to sit around talking.

The Stadium Light was built a little more than £ 500 / seat. The Cardiff stadium at around £ 1500 / seat. The extension to the CC stadium a good bit over £ 2,000 a seat. Wembley £ 6 -7 k a seat. The recent extension to Anfield over £ 12 k per seat. Timing is a huge issue but obviously size of structure has a huge influence. I suspect if we wanted to build the CCS extension tomorrow the increase in cost would be more than the cost in interest we've paid in the years since its been built.

We can add a few more seats if the costs are reasonable. Filling the corners at either end of the Ninian may cost little more than you'd recoup next season. Putting the extra tier over the Canton and family lot trickier but achievable at significantly dearer but still reasonable cost. Would almost certainly have to wait until next summer although they repair the railways and roads during closures and football grounds have the luxury of being unused 2 weeks at a time. Would add hugely to the cost though. The thing about projects of this magnitude though you cant wait till your fate is known. You need to be prepared to press the go button before March probably.

Not sure it would apply to us. Our core support grew when we finally got back to the second tier, but has fallen away in recent years. I just don't believe we are as big as some fans make us out to be. As I have said in another post, I have heard the term sleeping giant for the last 50 years, and if I live to be 112 I am sure I will hear it for the next 50 years as well.

Re: Expanding capacity

At the moment IMO the stadium is the correct size for us (if we go up). If we stay down than it's too big BUT it's great for the Wales games and can host some big events. It's also good for the BIG matches for Cardiff city as can offer a wide number of fans tickets etc. What size is Leicester City's ground? They won the PL!

Always wondered why we had those big gaps in the four corners
Other similar grounds don’t have them
Would look much better filled in
Understand we would need 1 for equipment

Not sure if you can completely fill in the corners like some other grounds on health and safety grounds, evacuation etc. Emergency vehichles need to access one of the corners and the lights for growing the grass are huge which they wheel in

Right then. I just had a text from my insider as I asked him yesterday about the stadium expansion behind each goal. He said and I quote "If we consolidate our first year in the league the expansion will take place"
