Dave Jones.
Amazing manager Dave Jones.
Bought cheap sold expensive. His signings kept this club going for a long time.
If he had the budget Malky had he would have won the Championship with 100 points and 100 goals and built a side Premiership ready.
He was given a far better squad than Malky and bottled it.
He built that squad for a quarter of the budget and selling best player year on year.

Were you... Trying to be.... Positive!???? You almost had it for a second.
I agree though warnocks selections have been SO bizarre that we're second in the midst of an injury crisis and a shoestring budget.
Put your name forward to the club see if you can have your say in the team sheet x

Well I don't recall him selling our best players after we sold Chopra. Those days came to an end. In fact he was given the money to bring Chopra back and at the time a record breaking one.
Quarter of the budget and 100 points. Neil do you expect people to take you seriuosly coming out with statements like that?

We had a few really good starting 11's under DJ. I can never Remeber us having the strongest squads though, there was def always a handful of real shit players on the bench. We were very thin.

how on earth do you come to this conclusion.
Malky inherited very little in terms of numbers but in his words..working with a blank canvas was an advantage..and he didnt leave Watford to come here without a promise of funds to build.
Dave Jones took over a team that had just finished 16th and were broke. the players who had the most starts in order of amount of starts the previous season are as follows
Danny Gabbidon.....sold
Jobi Mcanuff...sold
Chris Barker......stayed
James Collins....sold
Kav....sold
Thorne....sold
Richard Langley...sold
Alan Lee....stayed
Tony Vidmar...sold
7 other players left the club the summer..but make no bones about it it was threadbare..no international keeper or no one of the quality of whitts, mcfail, hudson. superkev or darcy blake.and most of all no malaysian billionaire to fund a new recruits.

He as in DJ, was given the best player in the country Craig Bellamy. He also got Aaron Ramsey on loan. The backbone of that team had been together for quite a while. The days of selling our best players were gone. It was the best chance we had of going up and I will say if we did we would have got established although I believe Dave Jones would have got sacked the same time as Malky did.
Malky inherited a few of Jones players but lost some of the important ones. He brought is lesser players but got us to a major cup final and a playoff spot. He deserved the investment and ended up delivering.
Anyway I'm out of this thread. we will just have to beg to differ. I will finish on the subject that if DJ had Malkys money to invest he would not have got us up and certainly not with over 100 points. Anyone thinking that I'm going ot make them the King of Fantasy Island.

Yes I got the Johnson and Ramsey bit wrong. Oh how bad and they both went for £5m and not over. In fact there is a great argument Ramsey should have gone for a lot more.
My point is DJ had not had to sell for a few seasons before he got the sack. In fact he had every chance of being allowed to invest but he never proved himself. So if you want to blame someone for him not being allowed to invest then look no further than Tan.

he was given enough like the £4m to bring back Chopra, The fact he was willing to spend it on one guy instead of more than one is down to his model which basically failed.
Even under Tan he was allowed to bring in others. Although on loan they still did not come cheap. The reason he was not allowed to buy permanently is because he never proved himself enough.

If they were his signing why did he not get us promoted then?
Yes I did. The squad wasn’t strong enough as he didn’t have a budget that could build a squad just a team.
DJ model was to have a quality 11. He never took serious a deep squad.
Without his quality 11 he is useless. Go and ask Hartlepool fans that.
Ffs going round in circles with you talking shite.
Of course he couldn’t have a quality squad. He didn’t have the money to buy a quality squad. If he did he would have.
he was given enough like the £4m to bring back Chopra, The fact he was willing to spend it on one guy instead of more than one is down to his model which basically failed.
Even under Tan he was allowed to bring in others. Although on loan they still did not come cheap. The reason he was not allowed to buy permanently is because he never proved himself enough.
Who did he bring in under Tan?
Chopra was only signed as they still owed us money for him. It was nothing like 4 million.
Bellamy

The thing is Jones was allowed to bring in players be in on lone or not. He has a damn good starting 11 and not too bad a squad. Bellamy was the icing on the cake. All pundits were saying if we do not go up as champions it would be a total disaster.
