They sold 950 tickets .

14 clubs in the Championship get bigger home crowds than us no matter how well we do.

Away from home clubs like Bristol Rovers , Lincoln etc etc etc take more away than us and yes it hurts.

EVEN NEIL WARNOCK HAS CONTINUALLY ASKED FOR SUPPORTERS TO BACK OUR CLUB. :bluebird:

Totally agree I really don't see the obsession with the crowd numbers 18k we are the biggest club in Wales no rugby or football club are getting our crowds our average is around 20 k this year which is great

Out of the 10 home teams today we would have the 5th highest crowd, only just pipped by Fulham by a few hundred who get their gates swelled as apparently everybody takes thousands to Fulham.

Burton tiny club and Preston not massive but QPR, Hull and Reading all had more success than us in recent history, Hull have had 5 of the last 9 season in the Premier League but we are getting more than them, QPR 3 of the last 6 seasons in the Premiership and had 19 seasons out of 23 in the top division from the 70's to mid 90's.

The teams that had more are simply bigger than us, Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland massive Clubs who have barely been out of the top two divisions in their entire history with 10 League titles between them, Norwich barely out of the top two divisions in recent history and Fulham recently off the back of 13 straight years in the Premiership.

When you weigh it all up, we are doing ok and it will ONLY get better with continued success at the top level.

We are 14th highest home in the Championship with crowds, to mention Burton means we are stopping very very very low.

11th out of the 24 Annis on 20,505, the ten teams above us contain the likes of Leeds United, Sunderland, Aston Villa, Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Middlesbrough, some big clubs there who have had far more recent success than us and season upon season in the top flight over the years, we cannot compare ourselves to them and are doing ok

Is it poor crowd for us or is it the norm now?
Or is it poor crowd because our fans say it is? Think this topic should be stuck permanently on top of forum as its so repetitive.

I do get annoyed when people say no excuses, I work Saturdays' Tuesday's, Wednesday's, Friday's, and don't get home until 7:30 so couldn't go if I wanted, but why do so many on here think we should have more. There seems to be this assumption we are doing well we should get X amount, the thing is as long as Swansea are premier league, and we are championship, then there are plenty who will watch Swansea just to see premier league football.

right...thats where the missing thousands are...and their excuse is they are on loan to Swansea.

people need to get over the cried numbers Jesus we use to get under a 1000.
Comparing our crowds to the top 6 is daft, the top 6 had many years of riding high and top level football we didn't.

And we were playing millwall hardly a glamour tie offering up beautiful football.

Re: Poor home crowd

Sun Oct 29, 2017 7:29 am

I attend home games with a group of about 15 - 20 people. Loads of us - myself included - aren’t going to the Ipswich game as it’s on the same night as Halloween and will be spending time with the family instead. For the record, I’d rather go the the football, but it’s the one time a year when my American wife puts her foot down as she loves Halloween.

It’s the only home game I’ve missed this season and I’m gutted I’ve got to choose between the two as I think it could easily have been avoided when the league fixtures were compiled.

Has anyone else with children got a similar issue?

Not expecting the same fans to week in week out, but with such a big fan base we should be getting 20,000 plus crowds with how well we are doing.

For 17 yrs now City on the pitch have over all done very well and on our database we have 260,000 City fans registered.

Like you say you travel 150 miles, many City fans live with in 20 miles,5 miles and just turn up for the big name games.
It should not matter about who the Opposition is, its Cardiff City We follow and Support :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Good points.
It's all got a context.

We've lost a lot of fans and gained some new ones in the past few years.

I expected 18-19k yesterday and really would love to see more there, but won't be moaning as I can't do anything more about it. Even though I brought 7 extra family members yesterday

Re: Poor home crowd

Sun Oct 29, 2017 9:32 am

By the way. Biggest issue with our attendance is the drop in the Family Stand, Ninian and Canton are fairly full.

Family has dropped from 6-8k in our first few seasons at CCS to not much over 1000 now.

Don't forget we used to have few kids season tickets and people bought them with the hope we would go up or get to a cup final and so they would be sorted in the future.

Sad but true.

I don't think at the moment that many actually believe we can go up and we need a good result on Tuesday to boost half season ticket sales which go on sale on Weds

Re: Poor home crowd

City crowds have always been up and down. I was amongst 50,000 at Ninian park in 1972 when we played Leeds, the following Saturday we were home to Fulham and only 13,000 turned up. It's always been this way.

Re: Poor home crowd

Sun Oct 29, 2017 12:00 pm

Crowds of between 16,000 and 20,000 are where we are at as a club. Anything above that is exceptional. Yesterday's crowd was slightly better than I expected as Millwall are not a big draw to bring in the floaters.
As Lawnmower mentioned above, one of the main reasons for us having less than 20,000 is the dwindling numbers in the Family Stand. Until we find a way of enticing the numbers of families back to the ground then the crowds will not be going up long term anytime soon.

Re: Poor home crowd

Sun Oct 29, 2017 12:11 pm

Very disappointing crowd in my opinion, in our position in the league we should be getting 25k easily. Fair play to the loyal 18k that were there yesterday. A sniff of the premier league and thousands will soon come trotting back to see all the big names. As for the boxing.............do you support CCFC or AJ?

Its rediculas to compare us with teams you've mentioned as history shows they have persistently had bigger crowds than us regardless of how successful we are as a club in past 10yrs or so. Our fans are totally unrealistic with expectations of our current support considering what's gone on past 5yrs. Like you i think we are doing ok

One oddity is Green Bay, pop. 105,000, sell out every home game, capacity of the stadium is 80,000. The most successful NFL team. What we need is sustained success over many years.
