Totally agree we may have lost a few hundred at the time of the rebrand but it was nowhere near the thousands some people would have us believe.
During the promotion and the Premier League seasons our attendances were very healthy. It was relegation and the failure to mount a credible promotion challenge which was the real reason for the fall off in attendances.
Many will claim the rebrand is why they no longer go but in most cases that doesn't hold water as their principles didn't kick in until 2 years after the change to red.

Wolves played Boro last Sat, nearly 30,000 (incl 2,500 Boro) surely the same applied to them?

For many years us and Wolves were very similar.
But why different over family holidays ?
Why are we the only club that makes excuses about our support? It's either the weather / ticket prices / manager / owner / identity / restrictions etc etc why us all the time

Wolves and Middlesbrough are based in 2 of the largest population conurbations in the country - we're not. Predicting what the attendance will be and what you want it to be (or think it should be) are totally different things

Just about summed it up mate.
How do we know nobody else makes excuses or moans about their attendances?
Like I say, two completely different clubs.

But what is a 'hard core fan?'
Is it a season ticket holder who attends every game and also goes to at least half the away games? Or is it Premier seat holders as they pay more to watch City?
Also I know season ticket holders who miss 6/7 games a season do they count as 'hard core?'
Personally I think it is a pointless label same as glory hunter. CCFC will be a big club if they return to the PL because we will sell out every week God knows where these extra fans come from but they will appear just like they did before if we go up.

I was one of the fans who walked away when City went red. I had a season ticket for 20 years plus, and went to about 18 away games every season. The rebrand broke myself and although I went to the Newcastle game in the PL I hated it and knew it wasn't my club anymore.
I did attend the Birmingham home game this season as tickets were cheap and I decided to give it a try, but it was an awful game and I thought I had lost my passion for the club. But now I think I will watch the Portsmouth game and I'm even thinking about getting a season ticket as it feels like a club again even though I've not attended games.
The fans will come back if City are pushing the top 6 as NW is the best manager we have had in such a long time and we can relate to him, I just wish he was 10 years younger

I think that us city fans believe we are a much bigger club than we actually are . We also have to take into account a few other issues that other teams really don't have . We are one of the few cities that has to do compete with another major sport in rugby Also we have major Saturday football leagues which takes away a lot of fans . Many other cities have Sunday leagues for youth and adults I really think a big crowd for us is around the 27,000 if we are doing really well
Because of these factors

M'boro isn't a very big place and anywhere north supports the big two. We on the other hand have a huge area with no rival support, you can't really count Newport, a sad fact that over 90% of the population of Cardiff never go, never mind the valleys, vale and beyond. It's a shame because it's a thriving growing city at the moment and a well run successful club could link in with that, never does though.....I reckon 26875.
