There is no reason why black people can use the N word but white people can't. That is fundamentally racist as it prefers one person over another based on their race or skin colour. Simply put the word is offensive whether it is said by a white man/woman, a black man/woman or an Asian man/woman.

We all know the history of the slave trade but that was ended over 200 years ago and the world has moved on. To try and justify racism against white people using that excuse is both offensive (because nobody alive today had anything to do with the slave trade) and completely stupid as I could raise the same complaints against the Romans, Vikings and Normans who invaded the UK and enslaved my ancestors.

If we are to truly to have an integrated society then this kind of nonsense has to be put to bed once and for all.

White men said that word to put black people down, there are negative connotations behind that word in particular coming from a white person to someone black, or about someone black.

If a black person used that term in an offensive manner, it would be offensive but there is no way that word can be said by a white person in a non offensive way. You say the world has moved on but it hasn't. Racism still is an issue.

So what your saying is Black people are not as capable as white people of moving beyond history and forging the future?

That is an inherently more racist (if far more subtler and more nuanced version of racism) than mere outdated and uncomfortable words like nigger.

You're not allowed to decide what people find offensive. They've taken a hate word and turned it around, like Cardiff fans calling ourselves sheep shaggers, or Bristol Rovers fans gasheads. I genuinely agree with a lot of your sentiment. It is a word that has hugely negative connotations and personally i wouldnt use it in conversation.

But to say one person can use a word but another cant simply based on skin colour is fundamentally wrong. Everyone is born equal regardless of skin colour and that goes both ways.

This is now a decent discussion

There are many in the black community who also feel the word should not be used.

I think my using the word in black communities has been a way of removing the power from the word and therefore reducing it to a jovial word with each other.

When most white people use the word it isn't and actually can't be used in the same way so it is highly stupid for white people to use it.
