I think for a boxing analogy, she was hoping Paxman would stop the fight. I felt so sorry for the poor thing, she really looked bruised, battered and confused.

Oddschecker wrote:Both Jeremy Corbyn and Theresa May went face-to-face with renowned tough-talking interviewer Jeremy Paxman last night as the pair laid out their intentions for how they would run the country if elected on June 8th.

Paxman’s no-nonsense approach appears to have favoured the Labour leader as viewers complained of the treatment dished out to the Corbyn as Paxman attempted to highlight the difference between the Labour leaders’ personal views and what is included in the Labour manifesto.

His line of questioning to the Labour leader appeared to anger a large proportion of the watching audience and led to Corbyn reminding the host on numerous occasions that the manifesto was created to represent the party and not him personally. Jeremy Corbyn, explained “I’m not a dictator who writes things to tell people what to do…This is a product of a process in our party. That’s why I was elected leader of our party: to give a voice to our members and those affiliated to our party.”

The Labour leader came out of the debate with his reputation further enhanced as many praised him for his “humour” and “calmness” during Paxman’s onslaught.

Thersea May followed Corbyn into the firing line with questioning mainly revolved around her dealings with the EU regarding Brexit. The current Prime Minister stressed that “no deal is better than a bad deal”, implying that she’d be prepared to walk away with nothing from the negotiations rather than accept a bad deal.

Corbyn’s answers to Paxman’s tough question appeared to resonate more powerfully with the betting public compared to the current Prime Minister. Since the start of the Sky News and Channel 4 programme, the Labour leader has accounted for well over double the amount of bets placed on the next Prime Minister market compared to Theresa May. In total, Corbyn has received just over 66% of bets placed on the next PM market, compared to 27% for the Conservative leader.

Off the back of last night’s debate, Jeremy Corbyn’s odds have been cut by three different bookmakers to be named next Prime Minister following the general election and is as short as 9/2. Despite the backing for the Labour leader, the Conservative party remain 1/12 to win the most seats on 8th June.

“The support for Jeremy Corbyn has been relentless over the last few weeks, however as the Conservative’s odds continue to drift we are seeing more big wagers placed on the party.”

you do understand how odds work ?
its a 2 horse race. one is 1/16 which means you have to bet £160 to win a tenner.....hardly worth the bother
the other is 16/1..you have to place £ 10 to win £160..a decent outside bet.
the more money thats gambled on the outsider the shorter the odds get as the BOOKMAKER has to balance the BOOK.
bets made do not by any measure reflect voting intentions

Yes, I understand how odds work

I quoted an article from which I assume is an independent and impartial source - oddschecker.

They definitely understand how odds work.

If you think this is what happens after "Theresa May clearly won the debate" then maybe you should ask that infant school child of yours to explain it to you (ask them to explain it slowly).

The reason his odds are being cut is because people like me a lumping money on him because it's a two horse race, and you have to go for the outsider when the odds are generous. No point in going for the favourite at an average of 1/14 and in one case 1/20. I don't think for one minute Corbyn will win, just like I don't think I will win the lottery, but always worth a bit of a punt. The more people like me bet on the outsider, the lower those odds will get. Not having a big effect on the favourite though who is remaining at an unbettable odds on figure.

The odds are as low as 7/2 now. Wonder what the odds would have been if Theresa May has not "Clearly Won" the debate?

I don't think that Jeremy Corbyn will win either.

I just find it distasteful when the uninformed crap and misinformation that passes for debate by some of the posters on this board goes unchallenged.

Re: TV Debate

I genuinely thought Corbyn was overall better. Paxman tried to drag him through the mud, and kept interrupting him.

May, was given an easy ride. No questions on the NHS, Fox Hunting, Ivory or dodgey deals with the Saudis. Paxman (a self confessed Tory) also gave May the freedom to talk. To talk, and bore the shit out of everybody. She got laughed at multiple times. But, on her Brexit stance probably looked better for the general person.

But she got laughed at, multiple times. Laughed, at. And also called out on her lies, and trying to say Labours numbers don't add up. She's shockingly bad at speaking which is why for me, it is clear she won't have a proper debate on tv. Her appalling record would be ripped to pieces by any real opposition.

Corbyn gaining ground, he can do this!

To be fair, not much on this forum actually goes unchallenged from either point of view. We all have our views and support a certain party, and while I am a Tory voter (this time at least), I did not watch the debate but can understand why a lot of people say Labour came out best. In my opinion, the Conservatives have not performed well with regards to their campaigning, and have probably done worse than all the other parties. I will be voting on policies and which party I think will handle the Brexit negotiations the best rather than the speeches and flag waving, but the Tory campaign has been very poor when compared to even UKIP, although ultimately they will still be returned to power. It's all very well hiding the likes of Abbott and Co from the public, but she and her mouth would still be home secretary if Labour were to win.

If it was a football match I would say it was a comfortable 2-0 win to JC.

This is supposed to be a part political election, it shouldn't be a presidential election, but that's what May has made it and she didn't bank on the fact that JC would get out to all corners of the country and show people that he is simply a much more honest and genuine person than she is.

The tories whole campaign, which coincidentally is reflected on this very message board, is based on personal attacks and shamelessly smearing JC. Labours campaign has been based on promoting a manifesto. This is precisely why the lead has been cut so dramatically.

Perhaps this last few days the tories would be better off spending their time promoting their own policies.

the best bit was when he said being leader was as much about using this { his ear.}.as this { his mouth }.
NO Jeremy any infant school child could tell you...ITS ABOUT USING YOUR f*cking BRAIN.

Not sure if you missed the point he was making; it's about listening to people. That is using your brain. As the old saying goes "everything you learnt in life, came from somebody else"
