Leeds spent those entire 14 seasons in the top flight including winning the League, played at Wembley twice, had numerous jaunts in Europe and played in a Champions League Semi Final.
We spent 7 of those 14 season in the dungeon, finishing 87th and 88th out of 90 Clubs in two seasons, no trips to Wembley and 2 trips in the Cup Winners Cup where we got knocked out in the first round.
They had years and years of success to build up a fan base whilst we have had nothing in comparison
I know and I never missed one home or away Cardiff City game during that period and at many away games we only took 50-150 away fans and one away game their was 11 of us attended,Gillingham away. We had as low as 100 season ticket holders, so since 2001, we have come a long long way, Its been a fantastic journey on the pitch for our old and new fans (Minus the Rebrand):bluebird:![]()

I just wanted to make the point of all those years in the top flight that Leeds had to build up their support

We LOST both Cup finals, we LOST the Play Off Final and were Relegated after one season in the top flight, we also LOST in the Play off Semi Final's two season's in a row.
Really speaking, all our new fans have actually ever known, the 2012/13 season aside, is failure.
We beat Barnsley at Wembley amazing day, Joe Ledley![]()

The worst time for me was at Wembley under Dave Jones, losing to Blackpool, I was fuming, We bottled it,although most fans on here say, under Dave Jones we had 6 years of quality football.![]()

Playing Liverpool at Wembley was a Dream come true, after vising places like Darlighton, Hartlepool, Carlisle etc 8 & 9 times each with City, this was something special, drawing with the Mighty Liverpool 2-2 and only losing out on penalties was one of my greatest ever days following City in over 43 years![]()

Annis I was there aswell, through the thick and thin and for people like us it was success and a priveledge but for new fans it was failure and that is all they will know, the nearly men, that is the point I am making

It takes success over a period to create a fanbase.
Le rebrande premier period ( 1 failed season) cannot really count as it's very difficult to establish
Who were our fan base then. As I and many others stopped going either before or during that season

The funny story is,when I use to say to the usual suspects on here the Rebrand lost us many of our passionate support, I use to get shot down on here, now its brought up all the time, why? because its true.
When other fans say to me our support nowadays is crap,I defend our support to the end and blame Tan/Rebrand,then they totally understand![]()

You are absolutely right, the re-brand hurt our fan base more than anything you could throw at it, although the effect of 'new' fans was being felt since the fa cup run. When we o y used to get 3,500-4,000 at home, the percentage of away support was a lot more than it is now.

Newcastle in them days were only getting 12,000-15,000 crowds in the old 2nd division, where were their 50,000 plus crowds then?

We played Man City home and got 21,000, beat them, then next home crowd 5,000.
We played Leeds United home and got 21,500 beat them, then next home crowd 11,000.
We played Bristol City home in the old 3rd Division a record crowd of 49,500 still for that division and yet next home crowd was 21,500.
I could bring up this on so many occasions its unbelievable, we have in my life time turned up prob once or three times a season at home, we only started turning up every week with full houses in the Premier League season.
This has been going on for years.
Yet during all those years until recently our away support was always fantastic/exceptional compared to our home support and other clubs![]()

It proves that our fan base has an extremely large amount of people who are either glory seekers or people who like to attend 'event games'.
This is what I was saying on another thread the other day, people slag the Rugby lot of royally during the Six Nations etc but Football is exactly the same. The Premier League Season was like 23 Six Nations games.

In the Premiership season there were anything between 15-25 in our group at times and we are down to 5 now, sometimes only 2 go if the others can't make it, but if we got to Wembley every single one of them would be all over it, or any big game for that matter.
