Why would Rovers sell him to Bristol City for £300,000 when we've apparently offered £400,000?

We have to stop mixing up rumour with actual fact.

Fake news is a big topic around the world at the moment.

Wait unti the Summer. We will be linked with so many players it will be quicker to read War and Peace than the list of players allegedly on their way to the CCS.

Anyone heard about Lambert going to Rovers in replace of Taylor?

A swap maybe? More probably Taylor to BCFC and Lambert out of here.

Cardiff City make enquiry for Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor

By Chris Wathan

31/01/17

Cardiff City are understood to have made an enquiry for Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor.

But the Bluebirds seemingly opted not to follow up their interest after tentative talks with the ambitious League One club – with Taylor ready to make a shock switch to rivals Bristol City.

Taylor, 26, has attracted admirers from Championship clubs after hitting 68 goals in two-and-a-half years at the Memorial Stadium.

His 16 league goals this season have helped Rovers maintain a push for the Championship having only won promotion from the bottom division last year.

But the contract he signed at the end of the last year contained a release clause of £300,000 that has sparked interest in his availability.

It is understood Cardiff spoke to Rovers about the player, with boss Neil Warnock still keen to add some attacking options to his squad.
Taylor set on a surprise move across Bristol to Lee Johnson's City – the first player in more than 30 years to make that move.

Warnock has admitted his frustration at not having more room for manoeuvre in this window, but has stressed in public and private he will not pay over the odds and is keener to keep cash for more significant spending this summer.

It is thought there is a good chance that Warnock might have to first try and offload a player from his wage bill if he did want to push through a deadline day deal.

Surely City will finally spend some money and get a bargain like Taylor.

Simon,I've just been told Warnock has to get rid of more players to get wage bill down.

I think we all know there is not much money available for Warnock to spend. I also think most of us believe that there is not going to be a huge amount to spend during the Summer either. While I don't think we will be relegated this season, it is going to be extremely difficult for a club fighting relegation this season to suddenly be promotion candidates next season with hardly any money to spend, even if the manager happens to be Neil Warnock.

Rickie Lambert to Bristol Rovers?

Certain rumours starting to circulate Rickie Lambert could be on his way to Bristol Rovers, with the obvious inference being he could form part of a deal for Matty Taylor.

At the moment Lambert will not be heading there and Taylor off to Bristol City in all likelihood. That doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t leave Cardiff today though.

But for me City should be offloading Lambert there and buying Taylor, prob for Warnock is Rovers want the £300,000 upfront, plus of course Taylors signing on fee/wages etc and Warnock has No real money to play with.

Cardiff City had put their name in the ring to challenge Bristol City for the signing of Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor.

It has been widely expected according to reports today that he would be making the move across Bristol to join The Pirates great rivals, Bristol City.

Tuesday 31st Jan 2017

This comes just a few days after Neil Warnock revealed that he was unlikely to sign anyone before the end of deadline day. Which now, of course, looks a likely prospect.

The forward has attracted great interest from the second tier after a successful two-and-a-half year period at The Memorial ground where he has scored 68 times.

He has been involved in some of the clubs greatest recent memories. That includes, of course, back-to-back promotions.

He was widely expected to join up with Lee Johnson at Bristol City.

It is thought that following talks with lowly Bristol City, Cardiff would have been blown out of the water. This now means that he will become the first player in over 30 years to make the move from one Bristol rival, to another.

Whilst Warnock has been understandably frustrated with the lack of transfer activity at the club thus far – he is said to be avoiding a panic buy. This could prove a smart tactic, as this may give him more money to spend during the close season.

It has been reported that Warnock may have to sell to buy if he is to make a deadline day signing.

Personally, I would prefer it if we signed Omar Bogle from Grimsby Town. He is 3 years younger than Marty Taylor and Bogle still has a lot of potential due to his age. I think Bogle would cost £1m-£1.5m to sign which is not that much money, considering the amount of wages we have saved on from getting rid of a few players. Bogle is a tall, strong and pacey striker who also knows where the net is. The only downside with us signing either Taylor or Bogle, is our poor history of signing lower league strikers who don't fulfill their potential and bring nothing to the club. It's strange because if you look at a lot of other Championship clubs, who do sign lower league strikers. It usually always works out well for the them and the striker goes on to become a prolific goalscorer for the club. Then because they have such a top striker, it could mean that they achieve possible promotion to the Premier League or they sell the striker for a very large fee. Which could be 75%+ profit on the initial fee that they paid for the striker. Then they can do the same thing all over again. This is what a lot of clubs do to survive and some clubs have done this for years and they've still had big success doing it, plus this is another way how some clubs have absolutely no debt whatsoever.

Bloooooobirds.

Taylor is available for 300k. If we can get him in for that price, it's a no brainer. He's got as many goals as Bogle in a higher division, available for the third of the price. I wouldn't mind us signing either but Taylor is less of a risk because he's scored more goals, goals at a higher level and he's a lot cheaper.

There will be no bidding war - 300k is the release clause, no club needs to bid over this amount ... it will depend on whose terms are the best on offer.

the whole point in a player having a release clause is that he will be released should the figure in clause be offered. not sure where this 400k comes from tbh ,if the release clause states 300k.

When we went to Turf Moor and got the draw that made us champions, that point also meant Burnley were saved from relegation - the following season they were promoted to the Premier League.

Think when Robbie Savage came down with Derby - we thrashed them 4-1, he scored an injury-time penalty - Derby were on their uppers, they've been knocking on the door of the Premier League these last few years now.

The Championship is mad - I would back Warnock to move us up from his current 1.6 points a game average, which gives you 71 points in a full season, to nearer to 2 points a game, which guarantees automatic promotion on 92 points.

I accept we would need a goalscorer - the rest is teamwork, selection and management.

Bristol City have signed Cardiff City target Matty Taylor from Bristol Rovers for a deal worth up to £400,000

The Bluebirds made an enquiry over a potential move for the 26-year-old striker who has bagged 68 goals in two-and-a-half years at the Memorial Stadium.

Taylor has already scored 19 goals in all competitions so far this season as clubs were placed on red alert to his signature after it emerged he had a release clause in the contract he signed with the Pirates last summer.
