I can't believe no one's been Rick rolled yet!

And any mention of the 80s needs to mention the best 80s joke ever;

Probably wouldn't say this if he didn't pass away, but 'One more try', by George Michael, is a brilliant song. The album 'Faith' is quality.

I am probably from the wrong era to talk about 80's music. My music was from an earlier time, and I have always liked bands like The Who, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Uriah Heep etc. For me, music went downhill in the 80's and 90's with the exception of a small number of bands and singers, but I have been more impressed with some of the modern groups like Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, and singers like Adele. Hate the manufactured groups like One Direction. I am old fashioned and like people who can play instruments and write their own stuff.

I disagree that it went downhill in the 80s I consider that to be the best period of music I agree that it went downhill from early to mid 90s though.

I guess it depends when you were born. I expect people older than me will say that the 50's rock and roll years were the best. I think most of the bands that have survived for more than the usual 5 years are from the 60's and 70's. Even now not many bands bigger than the likes of the Stones, and even Ozzy can still pull a crowd. I think for most people it depends on who is around when you are in your teens and early twenties. I still pluck my old guitar most days, and although I like learning some of the modern stuff I still tend to keep with my traditional tunes like Wish You Were Here, Whisky In The Jar etc. I just like music in general unless it's Spice Girl sort of stuff. I particularly like groups with good guitarists so obviously things from the likes of Derek & The Dominoes, Hendrix etc., is my sort of stuff.

I was born in mid 90s and I listen to 80s music more than anything and I don't get the same sort feeling from any other decade of music I don't know why.

Just before the '80's, a current favourite of mine is 'Rat Trap' for obvious reasons.

Some very good tracks in the 80's - unlike today. Part of the problem was recording in digital - just sounded naff after analog.
Plus the early keyboard sounds werent the best.

Good example is Only You by Yazoo - great track, but sounds cold.
