Nigel Clough targets three points from Burton Albion's 'big' game against Cardiff City on Saturday

Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough wants three points this weekend
Cardiff City's visit to the Pirelli Stadium is a big game for Burton Albion, according to manager Nigel Clough, with it being the last chance to take three points prior to the October international break. The Brewers have not won a match since prior to the last international fortnight, when they beat local rivals Derby County 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.
Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough
Cardiff have struggled so far this season, currently sitting 23rd, but possess genuine quality across the pitch with the likes of Peter Whittingham and Craig Noone regulars for the Bluebirds. Paul Trollope's side visit the Pirelli tomorrow (3pm) and Clough knows, with Albion currently 18th and with 10 points from their first 10 Championship matches, a victory over Cardiff on Saturday would be the ideal result to take into the October break.
"It's a big one for us on Saturday, and we'll try to get a win," said Clough. "Generally speaking, I think it is an incentive to the lads to say 'come on, we've got a few weeks off after this - let's go into the break on a high'.
"It would put us on target as well, at just over a point a game, towards that 50-point mark to survive this season."
Clough has been pleased with his side's consistency, in terms of performances, so far this season, but maintains Albion are not content with taking plaudits above points as they push for suvival in their first ever season in the second tier.
"We've played some good stuff up until Tuesday night (at home to QPR) where we struggled at times," said Clough. "We've played some good football home and away. It's now (about) getting the balance between playing that good football and picking up points, which we need to do.
"We're not here for plaudits."

Have a strong feeling City might score 0. So at best a 0-0 draw. Expecting a loss
God I really have become negative. Hate feeling like this as always used to feel City can win every game.

Cardiff face Burton Albion at the weekend, ahead of an international break that is notorious for managerial changes.
By Scott Johnson
Trollope is already under a great deal of pressure and many are already calling for his head. Should they lose on Saturday, that will only intensify, but would more change help or hinder the situation?
People were desperate for the club to shed Slade, without considering the alternatives. Trollope was always likely to be his replacement and it has not yet proved to be an upgrade. Would Lennie Lawrence constitute an improvement on Trollope, because he is likely to be the person to succeed him if necessary.
Derby are reportedly thinking of replacing Nigel Pearson with Gary Rowett, Neil Warnock or Steve Bruce. Stellar names that would surely give this Cardiff side a shot in the arm, but we are all well aware that they are unlikely to push the boat out to that extent.
Were Cardiff showing any shoots of recovery, it would be far easier to plead for patience. Instead, Cardiff are getting worse by the week and first up after the international break is a televised Severnside derby. That is starting to look like a real make or break clash.
The longer they remain near the foot of the table, the harder it will be to drag themselves clear, especially with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Newcastle and Aston Villa to play in the next couple of months. If things do not start to improve soon, Cardiff may soon find themselves out of their league in every sense.

RICKY LAMBERT:
Paul Trollope: We’re still waiting on Rickie, there’s still hope for tomorrow. There was a lot of tightness in the area (glutes/hamstring) and it stiffened up in the warm-up and the shot he took left him raw. He’s responded well to treatment so there’s a chance but whether he will be back time; we’ll tell after the session today. It would be a lift because any manager wants their best players on the pitch.

Injury concerns
The Bluebirds have far from a clean bill of health
We’re waiting on Rickie Lambert, Lex [Immers], Jazz [Richards] took a twist on knee, Freddy [Gounongbe] has trained and Peltier is back

PAUL TROLLOPE ' "SAYS ITS LIKE HAVING A NEW SIGNING"
Joe Bennett in line for debut away at Burton Albion tomorrow for Cardiff City???
Summer signing Joe Bennett is yet to make his Bluebrids debut, but Paul Trollope is hopeful that he may feature this weekend.
Paul Trollope:
"Joe Bennett is back in the squad after training with the group for the first time yesterday, it’s like a new signing."
He’s short of match fitness, has not been able train properly yet, but he will travel, and the international break will give him two weeks of work. We’ll see about a debut, we’ll see how he reacts to training, whether he’s on the bench or not we’ll see over the next 24 hours but it would be nice to get him involved."
Joe Bennett was signed on August 26th,but was carrying an injury,Bennett was able this week to train for the first time

Bennett signed from Aston Villa has made three match appearances in the last 12 months.

Nigel Clough wants Ben Turner and Burton Albion to make their bookings count
Saturday 1st October 2016
Ex Cardiff City defender Ben Turner has already been booked six times this season for Burton Albion
Ben Turner has been booked in his last four games for Burton Albion
Nigel Clough wants Ben Turner and his Burton Albion teammates to make their bookings count. Centre-back Turner - who is in line to face former club Cardiff City in Saturday's Pirelli Stadium clash (3pm) - has already served a one-game suspension this season for picking up five yellow cards.
Ben Turner has been booked in his last four games for Burton Albion
In total, he has accumulated six from eight Championship games after being booked in the midweek draw with Queen's Park Rangers. The 28-year-old was arguably fortunate not to see a second yellow in the QPR clash after bringing down Massimo Luongo as he made a run down the right wing in the second half.
And ahead of the Cardiff clash, Albion boss Clough is warning his side not to pick up needless yellow cards in the first place, putting them under pressure for the remainder of the game. "We (spoke to Turner) straight after the game and said he'd only just come back from suspension," said Clough - Turner missed the Brighton game because of that ban.
"It's a daft booking - the same as Tom Flanagan's first one on Saturday (against Norwich City). As soon as you get a yellow card, you're open to anything daft happening. Flanagan was sent off for the handball at Norwich and Ben Turner could've been sent off for a tackle down the side as well.
"Some referees would have given him a second yellow, so you have to be careful with the first one. Make them count, as well. We will have to, at times, make fouls, so don't get booked for silly things. Half of his bookings have been soft ones. Six in eight or nine games is far too many."

City won one from from their last 5 games.
Burton won one from from their last 5 games.
Burton three draws from their last four games.
For me its looking more likely a draw

Surely surely not another defeat today.

The rain is a absolutely hammering down now.
Sean Morrison comes under pressure in the left hand channel and puts it into the stand.
Already very physical.
Sat Oct 01, 2016 2:06 pm
Noone is done far too easily by Lloyd Dyer.
He flashes a low cross across but it comes straight to Amos.
Great hustle from O’Keefe moments later nicks the ball off Irvine.
Sat Oct 01, 2016 2:07 pm
First shot on target goes to Cardiff's O'Keefe, but McLaughlin stops low to his left.
Sat Oct 01, 2016 2:10 pm
Good build up play and Whitts has two shots blocked.
O’Keefe then rifles in the half-volley and it’s just wide.
Sat Oct 01, 2016 2:11 pm
Rickie Lambert’s shirt has been ripped down to his chest.
He’s carrying on though.
Farcical but pretty funny.
