' UPDATED '

Sources close to Cardiff City say there have been no bids for Brazilian full-back Fabio, but interest is expected over the coming week.

Any interested clubs will have to meet the release clause in his contract, thought to be in the region of £2 million.

Losing the dynamic defender would be a big blow to the club as he has been a key part of Paul Trollope's switch to a 5-3-2 during pre-season, enjoying the licence to get forward and attack.

Sources close to Boro say they expect an offer from Middlesborough to Cardiff City for Fabio.

Fabio certainly appears to split opinion, but I'm a fan and I think he'll do well for us in the PT system it looks like we'll be employing this season  :ayatollah:

Choice is give new contract if indeed he wants one? Or sell worse thing to do us let him go for nothing end of season!!!

It seems ironic to me that Annis has spent so much time asking for Declan John to be brought into the team, but now complains that Fabio has to leave because of Declan John! They are both left wing backs. Only one of them is going to play at a time. At the age of 26 you can't blame Fabio wanting to go somewhere where he can play regularly. Who do you want Annis as you can't have both!

And will you be fuming if he don't sign another contract and walks for free at end of season

Manga is also in last year of contract

2m would be good business in my opinion at a time when we need to look at how we spend.

This would be a good move for Fabio.
Let's face it we are now a selling club, and striving off relegation is our main aim :bluebird:

Every player in the world has a price,if we get his 2m,we sell,if not we keep, simple as that?

Absolute madness if we sold him. Fantastic player with the right attitude. He also has the type of flair that we need to see much more of and which will be a contributing factor in winning fans back by playing exciting football.

Fans will miss his enthusiasm, but I believe we can easily bring in a better quality replacement than Fabio on a much lower wage.

Fabio is one of those who's a defensive liability, lacks end product, but because he's Brazilian and constantly runs around making crunch tackles (mainly because he's surrendered possession or got caught out of position), our fans love him.

He's not the most solid defender but he's absolute tailor made for this wing back position. Given an attacking lease in this formation he will be player of the year I garentee it.

Our fans love him because he wants to play attacking football and he wears his heart on his sleeve!

I admire his enthusiasm, but the thought this system is tailor made for him is a complete myth imo. Fabio definitely isn't a wing back who will create, look dangerous and get lots of assists. He just doesn't have the composure. He will always take wrong decisions and have that rush of blood at crucial times. When have you ever seen Fabio consistently overlap and put in dangerous crosses?

Cashing in on Fabio and replacing him with a wing back who may not be as pleasing on the eye, but a much more composed player who is stronger defending and attacking would be ideal imo.

If we can get a decent fee for him and providing it is spent on strengthening other area's of the team I would sell him no problems at all.

I have nothing against Fabio, I think he is ok, but certainly not irreplaceable and I would not put him down as a player we could not afford to lose, I believe the same of Marshall mind, some people will think I am mental but it is just my opinion, if we could get £5 million for Marshall I would snap it up. I honestly don't believe he is irreplaceable either.

If we could sell Marshall and Fabio for a combined £7 million and spend that on 4-5 players across the park combined with a few shrewd loans I believe we would be stronger for it.

I would not even replace Marshall, I would start with Moore with Wilson as his deputy.

Totally agree ,and I've been saying this about Marshall for the last 12 months

The answer for me is all in the contract.
Surely Ken Choo or Paul Trollope has sat down with him and discussed the renewal? If his answer is - no I'm not going to sign then sell him. If it's the opposite, I would keep him without any doubt. Sod the striker - that can come , or not, if we shift one or two of the 3 bloody amigo's.
