The Yorkshire Post reported at 12pm..........

Friday’s Transfer Gossip (July 15): Hull City target David Marshall | Leeds linked with Rochdale midfielder | Boro close to signing Serbian defender

HULL CITY are believed to be in the race to sign Cardiff City goalkeeper David MArshall as they step up preparations for their Premier League return.

The Tigers are certainly in the market for a goalkeeper after learning earlier this week that they will be without first-choice Allan McGregor for six months.

McGregor, 34, who missed last season’s Championship play-off final win against Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley due to a back injury, will undergo surgery to correct the ailment, leading to a lengthy time out.

Earlier this year, Cardiff insisted they would only sell the highly-regarded Marshall for £10m, although it is thought Bruce is lining up a £6m bid to test the water.

Has his form dropped by 4 million! Someone should give him a kick up the arse!!

SSN reporting that apparently Marshall would welcome the move.Thats a big turnaround and if true makes me wonder what has changed down the city.Perhaps its no more than a fat signing on fee for which he can't be blamed at his age and in a way I hope thats it and nothing more sinister.

If I told you whats really going on,I would have you,Wez,Allan and the usual suspects on my back saying I am slagging the club off again.

All I will say is watch this space.

Perhaps he feels that his only chance of playing Premier football again during his career would be to move clubs.

If he wants to secure his family's future and is looking for a last payday before he retires then this may provide him and them with the security he needs.

Has been such a good and faithful servant to the club as far as I am concerned he should do exactly what he feels is right for him - he'll always be one of the best, if not the best, keeper I've seen in over 40 years supporting the City.

I don't have your contacts, but to me it has become pretty obvious over recent months that everything is about the business side of the club, rather than what actually happens on the pitch. I am convinced that the club will continue to be run on a shoestring, and that the owner's ambitions are no more than retaining our Championship status. There is only so long that you can continue with that sort of plan without ending up in a relegation battle.

Reading between the lines, perhaps the club have told Marshall that they want him to leave?

Or perhaps to put it another way, they are not expressing any desire to keep him.

Gareth,

Like you say,its up to posters if they believe or not believe.

I can only say what Ive been hearing and that there has been even more cuts this summer at our club and to the bare bone in many incidents, which has unsettled many players and staff.
Many believe its showing no ambition by our club as the cuts are to much.

I've been posting on here since 2009(I think) and I'm prepared to have a hefty bet that I have never accused you of slagging the club off.I've disagreed with you often enough(over Tan mainly) but never accused you of that. So,come on,out with it.

David, Marshall was originally more than happy to stay, but if he leaves, we should wish him good luck and thank him, not blame him :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Agree with you 100%. No blame on Marshall.

If he was originally happy to stay and now he's happy to leave, something's changed his mind.

And realistically that can only be something the club have, or haven't done.

I would take a guess at the club's ambitions not matching Marshall's ambitions. Would'nt blame him for wanting another stint in the top division, and he knows that this is not likely with Cardiff. He probably knows that Cardiff would be more than happy to see him move on in order to recoup some of Tan's investment.

Nowhere near the player he was 2 years ago and Moore is a capable keeper, especially with a run of games. For £6m you get a couple of players that would score 30 goals a season between them. Swapping Moore for Marshall might cost you 10 goals a season at most.

A question to you, Do you think we will get the money for new players?

I don't.

If it really is £6m then there may be some money for players. His true value has been less than that last season in my opinion. It's wages that are the big factor and I would guess he is on at least £25k a week - £1.2m a year. Goes a long way to helping the FFP rules if he goes. Konstantopolis was the Middlesborough keeper last year and I bet he was on a fraction of what Marshall earns. Spending a lot of money on a goalkeeper is an unnecessary extravagance at Championship level.

Cardiff Keeper As McGregor Replacement?

It's being reported that Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall could be Steve Bruce's choice to replace injured Allan McGregor.

The other week it was confirmed by the club that McGregor, along with Alex Bruce, could be set for four to six months out on the sidelines with injury, and Bruce spoke about the need to bring in another keeper to ensure we had cover.

Wales Online are reporting that Marshall could be that man, and that we are set to make a £6million offer for the Scottish international.

Marshall's future has long been speculated about but nobody so far has struck a deal, with Cardiff holding on for around the £10million mark for him.

Whether anything comes of this or whether Marshall has again just become a 'go to guy' when clubs need a goalkeeper remains to be seen.

Firstly, this would cause issues come November when McGregor comes back from his injury; when it would clearly create friction between two very ambitious Scots internationally. Only one of them would be able to claim Hull's No.1 spot and the other would be restricted Reserve Team games and (by default) cast into the international wilderness

Secondly, if Cardiff City FC have any ambition for this coming season (and I believe they do) then that won't be served well by getting rid of the most consistent player we have had at our club for many a year. Moore isn't at the same level (yet) and how much do we think it would cost too bring another similar standard 'keeper in? About what we'd sell one for, of course!

Finally, Marshall (we keep repeating this) is happy in Cardiff with his family and is not actively seeking to leave the CCS anytime soon

Sven,

On what basis do you believe that the club has ambition for the coming season (other than to stay in the division of course)?

What evidence have you seen that the club is making a genuine and concerted attempt to get promoted?

My thoughts exactly, the only thing the club is interested in is saving as much money as possible without getting relegated, look at every decision since we let ole go it's been about one thing and one thing only ££££

Might have had something to do with the monstrous debt we are in and the lack if revenue.

I'm fairly happy with doing things the economical way and building slowly for the future, otherwise were relying 100% on tan unless someone else comes along and wants to waste millions of pounds.
