Totally disagree with you on this!
Top 6 we were aiming for and if that does not happen then he has failed. If we don't go up Marshall,Manga, Noone and possibly Pilks will be gone at least and possibly more. I cannot see RS getting players in as good as them to push on next term, so another season wasted and with the likely relegation of Villa, Newcastle and Sunderland it will be even harder.

Admittedly, Immers was a good purchase by the club. However, I fear the introduction of more unknowns will be detrimental in the long run. Immers was a Feyenoord player and a safe bet due to his pedigree. This administration has no record of turning unknowns into superstars.

Exactly right.
Slade has achieved nothing yet. What if we finish outside the play-offs? As 2blue2handle says, at the start of the season both Slade and the club said that the aim for the season was top 6 - so if we don't get into the top 6 he will have failed in his stated aim.
So why should he get a new contract?
What makes anyone think that Slade will do any better next season than he has done this? If he stays we'll have the same stated aim at the start of next season - play-offs will be the limit of Slade's ambition.
The cynic in me is also not surprised that this news is leaking out now that the season tickets have sold so well.
I've seen nothing form the entire time that Slade has been here to suggest that he can manage a Championship team to promotion. If he's given a new contract it will be another season just like this one - inconsistency, flirting with the play-offs but never quite getting there.
For me, giving Slade a new contract will show that the club is happy to close it's eyes and keep it's fingers crossed that, against all previous evidence, Slade can somehow pull a promotion out of the hat by pure luck.
Another season of drifting along if he's given a new contract. If the club is serious about getting promotion, giving Slade a new contract would be a ridiculous way of showing it.

The Slade/Tan axis is a factor which I hadn't thought of. I think Warnock could work with Tan in some capacity after all he succeeded at QPR with the circus that was there.
We have the bases of a good team we only need decent forwards. I would love to see a few of our academy players break through next year and see if we can turn around that poor record of uncovering unknown stars.

Most are now saying the play offs are gone, probably true, but we are still in with a chance to be involved.
I think everybody would agree that Mr Slade is not a Premier League manager.
So why, when there is still a chance we might go up, are we looking at signing up the manager for another period at this moment.
It's a mixed message from the Club.
Are they saying we're offering a contract now as we are resigned to the fact we'll be outside of the playoffs even before we actually are. In other words we've given up already
Or, are they saying we are planning on the Premier League next year and we think Mr Slade will do a job for us.

Karl,
Everyones entitled to their own opinion and of course Slade would not be my first choice, but if he gets his contract renewed, then as Cardiff City is the club I support, I will fully support him.![]()

I'm fine, it's just a typo. I know it's hard for you to decipher.
All you've done is bitch and moan all season despite us being back in our colours and making vast improvements both on and off the pitch. Even when our form has been spot on and we've played well people like you pin it on 'luck' because your too stubborn to give slade credit but you'll happily put him down at any opportunity.
You didn't expect us to be in 7th fighting for a play off spot with four games to go, did you? That's not drifting.
The club are obviously going to set high goals but most fans predicted mid table because they knew the squad was overatted and the manager unproven. But they've exceeded expectations.

However a good mate of mine who is a Forrest fan called me today and asked what's the score with RS, as (by all accounts) thier owner has said earlier this week he had approached two managers recently about the Forrest job which is vacant still and that one of them has the following 3 points;
1 - Managed a previous side to promotion. (Yeovil I believe ?)
2 - Has Championship experience.
3 - Knows the history of the club well.
He called me as based on the above RS and one other is all that he and his mates can think of, RS was thier favourite as by all accounts he is a Forrest fan (?)
Could the club have been informed Forrest were interested hence the strange timing of the announcement or is it simply fans second guessing ? I don't know to be honest and its more than likely the latter, but you never know.

Great that we're in blue.
Brilliant that Tan is sorting out the finances and the marketing department at the club has woken up at last.
Unfortunately our form hasn't been "spot on " anywhere near consistently enough over the season. I will give Slade the credit I think he deserves - he's done exactly what Tan asked of him, there seems to be a good team spirit now and the performances have improved greatly from the second half of last season when he presided over some of the most uninspiring and insipid football I have seen in over 40 years supporting the club.
However I still do not believe he is the man to take us forward. He seems to me as if he really doesn't have much of a clue - Pilkington as a striker was forced upon him, he said that he wanted Joe Mason to stay rather be sold (and would have no doubt kept playing him if he had stayed), his record in signing strikers is shocking, he left O'Keefe out of the side for much too long then dropped him when he was playing his best football of the season.
I don't think our squad was over-rated. It's a very decent squad with a number of players who would be first choice in any Championship team. Of course it's only guesswork but look what Warnock has done at Rotherham in a fraction of the time that Slade has had, with no money at all to spend and a squad that has nowhere near the quality of ours.
Did I expect us to be 7th and challenging with 5 games left? With the squad we have - yes. With the manager we have - no. So again credit to Slade for that although how we're seventh when we've only been able to win three games in a row once this season is a mystery.
I understand the "safe pair of hands" theory and undoubtedly Tan is more than happy to have a yes man as manager but for me Slade does not have the ability to coach a team to promotion - something he's found beyond him throughout a career that's over 700 games old.
You really think he can get us promoted? Good for you. At the end of this season if I were Tan and he really is serious about promotion next season I would thank him for the work he has done, pay him a nice bonus and send him back to managing a club in League 1.
Unfortunately I think Tan will continue to prove how little he really understands about football by giving Russ another contract and keeping his fingers crossed really tightly.
