"That's my view too, Annis. Yes, it's good to hear that the crowd will be probably double our average this season, but what percentage of them were freebies? It doesn't alter the fact that in our Championship winning season we averaged 23,000 and EVERYONE paid. This year barely 14,000 have paid for admission each game. Yes, it's good to hear that so many will be at the Derby game and the Club has started on the long road it has to make but it will only get back to where it was 3 years ago when 23,000 pay."

I have and I have chatted to the club in many occasions pushing for it :ayatollah: Just sad that's the only way we can get them to watch the Mighty Bluebirds

Great work Annis! If we do have a record breaking crowd on Saturday then urge the club to do it again and again and again

The Blues are going up the Blues are going up now you are going to believe it, the Blues are going up!!!!!!! :bluescarf:

Tony, It is and the usual suspect Wez has twisted what Im saying, it is excellent work by our club, just can't believe this is the only way these people will return.

But if thats whats got to be done, then so be it :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I just looked on eticketing and there's loads of seats left, especially in the corners. 108/109 is virtually empty

Re: UPDATED " Amazing news for sat/next season "

The club might say 30,000, but how many will actually be in there? They have issued lots of free tickets, but will they all be used?
Financially the club is taking a potential big hit, as no one will be buying tickets, so £100,000 of gate receipts could be lost.
You can argue it is for the future, to encourage new fans, but will they only attend when it is free or has a big price reduction?

We will have to wait and see.

It'll be worth it, they'll pull out all the stops to make the experience enjoyable for those who are there for free. Not to mention they'll see what they've done for the season ticket holders who have renewed and want to be a season ticket holder for next season.

Happy days!

Maybe the board should make a thread where people can advertise free tickets they have?

The club told me they would send to any address or anyone can pick them up asking if it's pre arranged.

I'm sure there are people out there who are looking for tickets and people who are struggling to get rid...

its a reslly positive move from the club and i hope the majority of the tickets given out will be used otherwise it could be back to the drawing board to try snd find other ways to get bums on seats. The performance and the result this saturday could determine the attendances for the rest of the season and possibly the next

You are talking about £100,000 that the club would never see anyway as no one would buy them.

At least there will be added revenue in the ground from merchandise and food.

It just goes to show we can fill the ground. Now we need to find a balance and find a price that STILL fills the ground but doesn't mean we lose revenue.

Am going to guess 60-70% will be used, am expecting about 24-26 thousand Satirday. Double our usual. :bluebird:

It's not just about getting new fans into the ground, it also encourages current and new season ticket holders to renew quickly and it seems to have worked judging by how many have already bought season tickets

Re: UPDATED " Amazing news for sat/next season "

It would be great if they could go one step further. Make it £ 20 for an adult and £ 10 concessions including walkups for the last few games of the season. Fill the ground and if it helps get us in the playoffs it probably pays for the initiative in itself.

A great response from the club and a great response from a previously sceptical group of City supporters who are (even if on this occasion for free) coming along to the ground

If the team 'do the business' on the pitch, there is always the chance they will come back and buy tickets for another game and/or a season ticket (great value IHO) for next season

Personally, I didn't take up my allotted two Derby tickets, as I am (disappointingly) unable to get to the game myself but I hope those who attend will help create a great atmosphere and get the place rocking! :ayatollah:

To maybe have a sell out at home on Saturday would be an achievement...
Just hope all that took the offer for FREE tickets will put there hands in there pockets and buy a season ticket for next year...

Personally I've got better things to do with £300+, why can't people just be pleased that it looks like a 25,000+ crowd on Saturday, great positive news. If I'm suitably impressed by the performance and the day out, I might start going to more games, then again I might not. I was one of the very very few on here who went everywhere home and away in the days when 5,000 was considered a good crowd. Well done to the Club for this great initiative, hope it pays off.

Great initiative but I have to agree with season tickets. Pick and choose your games , go when you want to go and it will be a cost effective season :old: Club wont ever hold me to ransom again and there is a lot of live to be lived outside football :sladein: :bluebird:

I agree, I go and watch my 2 adult sons play for a local South Wales Amateur League team most Saturdays, far far more enjoyable than going to watch the City, whether in the Prem or the old Div.4. Looking forward to going down to the Derby game, maybe I'll get the bug back?

I am talking about the lost revenue from the walk up crowd and people who buy game by game. There are always a few thousand who do that. Such a big game would increase the amount of these type as well. The revenue for food and drink goes to Compass, not the club. Agree merchandising in the shop would probably increase, but not by that amount, unless all the free ticket holders spent money in the shop (possible bumper day for the shop to clear out this seasons kit?). Hopefully some will return for future matches if they enjoy the day and prices are kept low.

Are they making 100k from walk ups on a normal match day????
