Peter Whittingham scores his 86th goal for Cardiff City and becomes the clubs joint 9th all time top scorer :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

UPDATED : :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Peter Whittingham scored his 86th goal for Cardiff City yesterday against Huddersfield Town in the Bluebirds 3-2 win and by doing so Whhitingham became the clubs joint 9th all time top goalscorer.

Whittingham scored two goals in yesterday's win, a tap in in the first half and a wonderful free kick that Cardiff City fans have become accustomed to from the mecurial midfielders left foot.

Being a midfielder makes Whittingham's goal scoring achievements somewhat remarkable and he joins an elite list of Bluebird scoring heroes from yesteryear.

The midfielder shares ninth position with Derek Tapscott and just one more goal would see Whittingham join Bluebird legend John Toshack and their FA Cup Final goal scoring hero Hughie Ferguson on 87 goals.

Looking at the top ten list it is conceivable that Whittingham will make the top five, if he scores another five goals and Could possibly even make the top three by scoring eight.

Remarkable record for midfield player , of that list Peter King , a winger / forward , took 14 years to get his goals , the others were strikers

You don't get many players like him in modern football no fuss no ego just playes football as I've said loyalty today is all but gone but not for whitts.

If he plays every game in a reasonably forward role I can see him being 5th by the end of the season !

I know Peter King took 14 years to achieve that target, but to balance things out a bit, it should be pointed out that Whittingham has actually played more games for Cardiff than King. Both players City legends.

Buzzing for him and he can easily go up to third possibly 2nd depending on if he is still here.

For me the free kick was something you know he can do.. he still has it in his locker.. you don't lose the qualities he has.

The first was a very good goal.. to get that in under the pressure of the cut back is not easy as you can easily lash at it.

Peter Whittingham became City's seventh top scorer of all time after his brace at home to Brighton this afternoon.

Brilliant achievement for the midfielder.

You do realise he scored by toe poking it in through the defenders legs with his left foot.

A very cool finish!

He benefited massively today from the industry, neat and high tempo passing of O' Keefe and Ralls. I thought the positional play of Immers was immense and he created space for all the other midfield palyers to exploit. I thought Whittingham did well to use that space productively, he could or perhaps should have had another two goals.

I've had the pleasure of watching seven players on that list, and Whitts is as good if not better than most of them
