Team News

Cardiff City

Cardiff will be without vice-captain Sean Morrison who remains out until later on in February.

While striker Idriss Saadi has made progress on his injury and is likely to return within the next fortnight.

Aron Gunnarsson missed out on last weeks win at Wolves due to illness and will be expected to return to the squad this week
however, Stuart O’Keefe’s excellent performance last week may make it difficult for the Icelandic midfielder to walk straight back in to the starting XI.

Anthony Pilkington and Joe Mason rotated in the front-line last week and it is unclear whether the Bluebirds will use the same system or whether they will revert back to the more attacking and traditional style of 4-4-2 at home.

Craig Noone will be high on confidence after scoring two high quality goals last weekend and will more than likely keep his place.

Centre-back Matt Connolly signed a new contract this week which will see him remain at the club until the summer of 2019. Connolly has been a key player for Cardiff this season making an appearance in every single Championship fixture thus far.

Rotherham United

Rotherham are currently suffering from a number of injury problems. Manager Neil Redfearn said: “We’re short of bodies in midfield. We’ve got young Thorpey (Tom Thorpe) who is a utility player who can perhaps fill in a midfield position and we’ve got Manu Ledesma who can do maybe one of the two wide roles, but there aren’t obvious options in the midfield positions.”

“Lee Frecklington is out for maybe another couple of weeks, so as much as it’s about putting quality in there, it’s also about numbers.”

The Millers were without Leon Best, Stephen Kelly, captain Lee Frecklington (who will be out for another couple of weeks) and Farrend Rawson for their last outing with QPR and they could have to go without again with little news of their return. Rotherham completed the signing of former Leeds man Luciano Becchio who will make his début on Saturday.

Becchio impresses Redfearn
Posted: Thu 21 Jan 2016

Neil Redfearn on the signing of Luciano Becchio...
Manager Neil Redfearn says that new signing Luciano Becchio ‘looks the part’ after the Argentine concluded his return to AESSEAL New York Stadium this afternoon.

The striker has signed a deal with the Millers until the end of the season after impressing during training over the past fortnight.

The 32-year-old former Leeds United favourite enjoyed a loan spell with the Millers last season where he netted twice in five appearances.

Now the ex-Norwich poacher has signed a permanent deal with the club, and Redfearn has been pleased with his improving fitness levels.

“He has got himself 120% fit now and he looks the part,” Redfearn told http://www.themillers.co.uk

“Luciano is a vastly experienced front man and a proven goalscorer. He is going to be a help to the other strikers at the club and from our point of view it is a great signing to get in.

“He’s got over his injury, he looks a lot fitter and he has looked after himself. It is a case now of getting him in a good place. We have got ourselves a real quality striker.”

Redfearn has utilised his new signing in behind closed doors games, and confirmed that his introduction into first team competitive action is likely to be a gradual one.

Lex Immers to make debut on Saturday

Young says we could well see the new man on Saturday

We’ve seen very little of him so far.Only got concluded yesterday afternoon. He had a light session yesterday, but he will train today. We will get a good look at him with the lads.
He’s played in a lot of positions. We see him playing further upfield in a ten or a nine position. He’s done that quite a bit in his career. He should be available for selection tomorrow fingers crossed. Fitness-wise, he played 28 minutes last weekend. He’s in a good physical state so that’s not a problem.

Lex Immers will be in contention to feature for Cardiff in Saturday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Rotherham after completing his loan signing from Feyenoord.

The 29-year-old forward sealed his switch, until the end of the season, late on Thursday afternoon and will be available this weekend subject to international clearance.

Defender Sean Morrison remains sidelined with a knee injury, while striker Idriss Saadi is still out after tearing his hamstring on debut in November.

As I keep telling rydog, he won't be on the bench for the Rotherham game and probably not the Huddersfield game either.

On this occasion, I agree with Slade's team.

It was a good win at Wolves and makes sense to go with the same team in a match we really should win today.

3-1 Cardiff I'm going with.
