Don't remember us sharing the Grange End with anyone in those days Steve, except when we were rushed by a crew from the Bob Bank when there was no segregation or fences. It never lasted long though!

'You'll never take the Grange End' was the main chant in those days!

My memory is not that brilliant any more I'm afraid, I had vague recollections of two fences keeping the fans apart similar to the photo Mallo posted on the previous page. The chants I remember most are "one, two, three, four five, if you want to stay alive keep off the Grange End", and another one I remember was " you'll never reach the station".

There have been many posts on here over the years about "that" saturday in 1974, i was 15 and arrived with about 25 lads from cwmbran at cardiff bus station about 10.00 in the morning, as soon as we got off the bus we were fighting with utd lads, it was mayhem everwhere even at that time of the morning. We eventually arrived at the old nininan pub where i witnessed seeing the largest, hardest looking cardiff mob assembled in the 40 + years of following the city, it was a who's from who of all the city legends from down the years, it's never been seen before or since. As many on here have already stated it was by far the worst scene's i have ever witneesed at a football match (that includes going to millwall with the city 4 times in the late 70's arly 80's) utd's mob more than met their match that day, they were given a right hammering through out the day, how somebody was not killed that day must go down as a miracle, that's how bad it was, thankfully football has moved on from those dark days but every city fan who was there that day will never, ever forget the day utd's "untouchable" mob were totally over run.

Nearly all the city fans who were arrested got sent down think we had 41 from Cardiff and about 11 man Utd they had special courts set up for after the game .the echo did a big lead up to the game for a couple of weeks .the crowd was 22.000 with about 10.000 Utd .but when we went there we only took a few hundred with about 11 on the train

My Father was one of the ones that got sent down, he did 6 months inside for aggravated assault on a copper during the raucous, he was set upon by 3 utd's mob, took a beating, then took out 1 of their lads, the police apprenhended him and he took one of them out before getting clobbered to the floor by a policeman's helmut - game over :laughing5:

I was 12 and my old mans mate was a copper who told him not to let me go to the game. I told him I was going down my friends house. Straight on to the Llanrumney 47 bus which was rammed with all the lunatics into town. I just remember mayhem and being scared and delighted at the same time. The police lost control after the game. Police dogs must have bitten more people than they did in a lifetime. Long haired loons everywhere who didn't give a toss about getting nicked. It all looked a bit even from what I witnessed but Utd had a shock as every ground they visited that season they ran riot. Every hard nut football and non football turned out for Cardiff that day and were up for the knock!

I was probably on the same bus from Cwmbran and was with Bomber. Think there were also the Fairwater Man U supporters there too

You should all read tony ONeils Man United top lad his version of events that day to be fair to him he gives cardiff a lot of credit in his book .they had never came up against a mob like Cardiff before the game went down in football folklore for the trouble that day .they still talk about it today

My elder brother went he told me many of the Man Utd. fans wore butchers coats with the Red Devil emblem.I remember him coming home telling me it was sheer chaos. When I was ten I remember Villa bringing a huge mob down circa 1970/71 my old man took me and we were in the family enclosure.Villa were in the Bob running at in the Grange with a line of Old Bill and a flimsy fence. My uncle from the USA was with us and he was in shock...welcome to GB !!!!

I was there for that villa game it was mental, Birmingham also brought a big mob that season, 1970?, and had a go at the Grange end, both midlands mobs got done though.

Think the Villa game was my first game without having to go with an adult. If I have the right game, we won 4-0 and Villa got relegated that season to Div 3. Maybe we will get the chance to do the same to them again next season.
