A forum for all things Cardiff City

We're three players short from being a very good side.
If we miss out on the play-offs this year we will be challenging for autos next year as long as we keep the core of the squad together and keep faith with Slade either as manager or alongside someone younger.
This club is desperately in need of some consistency both off and on the pitch.
Every year since we have been in the championship it's been a poor division according to some. There are a lot of bigger clubs than us finding this division tougher than us again this year.
Very, very few clubs bounce back to the Prem straight away. It takes time. Ask Derby & Boro. Better still ask Blackpool or Wigan or Pompey.
Expectations of Cardiff fans are absolutely over the top ever since DJ got us to the FA Cup final.

It's not like he's been there and done it and is on his way down.
Can you imagine him being a DOF to a Bellamy?!?!? Do me a fooking favour
Stupid idea.
I said Tans DoF.
To my knowledge Slade hasn't skinned him like our previous managers. Can you imagine the Tan's direct line to Bellers !! me neither, there would have to be a Tan friendly middle man.
I would love him out, but i just don't think Tan will want to sack him due to the crap he spouted about him being the next Wenger
Come on fella ffs
Can you imagine anyone worth their salts letting this prick be a go between him and Tan?!??

We are in no means in a complete mess like some like to think. Things could have been alot worse looking at some bigger clubs than us that have ended up worse when relegated. With the right manager and a few additions this squad could be push for automatic and hopefully that will be our aim next year. However if we sell Manga and Fabio we will be alot weaker
Tue Dec 29, 2015 12:45 am
Backwards.
I was prepared to give him the benefit of doubt considering what mess "fooking shoot" left him with and his supposed role was to cut costs. However, the telling factor for me is his inability to change the game.
Also, just how many of the extra 15 or so players he has actually added to the wage bill actually get a game?!
Sorry, Russell you may be a decent man, but you're seriously out of your depth.

I predict we will finish 15th in the league with Slade as our manager.

Yes, they're going nowhere
No, they're going backwards
No, they are making strides under him
In all honesty, I think we are 'treading water' and occasionally flattering to deceive in a poor Division
Russell Slade is probably a 'safe' pair of hands if the club (I mean Vincent Tan) is only interested in saving money this season but it will become abundantly clear that season ticket sales will decline further if (a) he remains in charge, and (b) the club don't make efforts to genuinely improve our chances of success in the second half of the season
Rightly or wrongly, Slade is seen as "Tan's Man" and it will be tough to shake off that label, but IMHO he isn't the man to inspire the squad to greater heights than those already achieved this season

Far to many city fans are defeatists! But looking logically we have move on as still in with chance of playoffs, unless if course fans do completely have a defeatist attitude! I certainly dont

We will make the play offs.

I think many of us are realistic rather than defeatist. We are far too inconsistent to reach the play offs, a lot will depend on who we sign during the transfer window, because a lot of the teams above us will certainly be adding to their squads.

If he could sell us for say £40 million and loses £40 million on this folly, but doesn't need the £40 million why should he want to sell us. He'll run us as part of his football business unit.
Business is about adding value. English football adds value. You take your raw material or service in this example a young talented footballer coach him well, then expose him to the value added Championship or premier league.
I believe our model is to take a £100k belguim/balkan footballer who is scouted correctly send him to Cardiff City either get us promoted and add value.
That is why I am convinced Slade won't be here next season unless its Tan's DoF as we'll need a young talented coach but accepts the model.
Sorry my post was not all that clear, when I said he I meant slade not Tan, I agree tan is not going anywhere
In short i don't believe he is going anywhere
I like the sound of this sort of model Watford are reaping the rewards from something like this.

Tue Dec 29, 2015 8:50 am
Going nowhere.
Tue Dec 29, 2015 8:59 am
I think he has done "just ok".
The players themselves need to take a look at themselves as they definitely haven't been giving 100 per cent.
Slade has definitely not inherited a promotion winning squad as many fans have predicted.
We have so many players out on loan its flabergasting!!!!
How about slagging off our previous managers who bought average players and put them on mega wages. No wonder they wont leave their contracts at Cardiff to join other clubs.
Tue Dec 29, 2015 9:13 am
at moment we are just about treading water, but i got the feeling we have started to go backwards.
i dont mind Tans philosophy of bringing in players from clubs he owns if it saves us money. but as least be honest with the fans and let us know whats happening. maybe then we can all start pulling in the right direction as currently the fans hopes are to high.a new manager is a must. if we are bringing in players from abroad then we need a flexible manager who can change the formation to get these players to fit.
iv no idea who that can be. People say Bellamy but that to is a gamble that could go either way.
January is going to be 1 of the most interesting transfer windows for us this year for a long time just to see what direction we are at. a loss to Forest tonight and will Tan trust Slade with any cash ?
saying all that if Slade changes things around away from his beloved 4-4-2 and starts getting results then he may win a few fans back. why not experiment with 4-5-1, or 3-5-2 ? surely it cant be much worse than sticking with 4-4-2 and opposition knowing exactly how to set up. i expect Forest to come down tonight and pack the midfield out. so a draw or loss could be on the cards. certainly be a brave man if your backing City to win even tho our home form is pretty good to be fair
Tue Dec 29, 2015 9:34 am
Of course we are making progress. The league table tells us that.
All this with reducing the wage bill significantly.
We still have some of Malky's (velikonja and Kiss) signings and Ole's signings to get off the books.
My main worry with Slade is that he's made a few crap signings however he is operating under stringent budgetary rules that our managers haven't had to deal with since DJ.
Tue Dec 29, 2015 9:35 am
Treading water and will be for the next year.
I cannot see Slades contract being extended. The question is when will he leave. I feel Bellamy will replace him in an attempt to bring back the crowds. If that will work or not we can only wait and see. That is of course if it happens.
Tue Dec 29, 2015 10:51 am
Under ole we were relegation contenders. The worst football I have ever witnessed. I wouldnt get paid to watch that. Bigged up to be attacking football but all it was just long balls without any actual team play.
So from that I think hes done very well.
I would have taken where we are now at the start.
No other team would kick off like our fans after the turn around weve seen.
No idea why people expect to be higher than where we are. Considering weve gone to the prem once.
We are competitive and thats all i ask.
Lots of teams tread water. Then it clicks. I doubt many thought wed go up with mackay.
Tue Dec 29, 2015 11:05 am
Statistically, we're going nowhere really. Need quality additions or a new manager.
Tue Dec 29, 2015 12:02 pm
Annis
It's nothing to do with Slade
It's where we r as a club as I have said before
Oles massive over spend
Now Financial Fair Play
And most importantly ambitions of Tan
Real acid test is Slade going to be given money to spend
Lots of players we think Slade signed and had influence in he really didn't let's get real
As this was done by Delmett committee
Only players Slade really signed I believe we're Petitier , Malone

Plenty of TALENT in our squad you have to earn the right to be top 6.Its down to slade to get the best out of the players.

The reality is we are in and around playoffs! Take a look around this forum its total defeatist attitude and as been since slade took over, yet we are still in with a chance of playoffs regardless of what people think of slade. Bet wouldn't be same attitude if pulis was in same position with us! Its purely anti Slade crap from same old people.

We are making strides under him. It’s still damage limitation after relegation. Not to drop further down the leagues has had to be our main objective since relegation, Slade has done that, not only that, I believe we are showing signs of recovery. It’s not pretty but he’s had to sort out the mess left by our previous two managers, massively reduce the wage bill and build a new team.
Look at Portsmouth, Wigan and Blackpool and many other clubs that were far more successful than us in the Premier and over a much longer period and count your blessings. Slade has done a good job I’m not saying he’s the man who can take us back up but credit where credit is due, At the moment it’s us fans letting down the club, some of the lowest gates in the league.
