I think they'll probably stay up, as the y usually manage to beat the teams around them. villa already look doomed and I suspect Bournemouth and Norwich will join them

They should never have sacked Laudrup. I bet Huw is regretting that now!

The way things were going, Man C was going to be a disaster anyway. It'll be interesting who they get in as a replacement. If it's a high-flier he won't be there long. If it's "on-the-cheap" it could be free fall.

How strange would it be to arrive at the PL and Swansea are no longer there!!

Gus Poyet backed into 11/10 FAV to be next Swansea City manager

They'll go for Puyet or maybe Di Matteo

Thu Dec 10, 2015 3:11 pm

They'll go for Puyet or maybe Di Matteo - both of these would fit into the they do things down there.

Sad to say - but they have a great track record in managers , the way they play and also a board of Directors that know what to do.

Whereas as we are the total fecking opposite - Tan, Choo, Dalman and Slade will hardly have any other club being jealous of that :old:

my personal opinion is that they didnt get lucky with Monk as manager, more that hes riding the path of sucess already laid out

A lot of truth in that. Swansea certainly have a 'system' that works...or at least they did! ;)

Agree with Paul and Spinks. Their boards track record on making a change consistent with their playing philosophy is proven which also extends down their academy and development pyramid. No doubt potential suitors have been schmoozed for some time as top-tier football management is like a carousel. Monks staff have also gone with Alan Curtis as caretaker leaving it clean for the new guy to bring his own people in. It will be interesting to see if the players react to Monks sacking as most of the blame is being put on them for not completely supporting him, which is kind of what happened when Laudrup went as I recollect.

As much as I'd like to see them come back down to earth with a bump (and even most of their fans think they will) I've always been impressed with the way that they bring a new manager in to play their system.

Just to be clear after all that objective unsentimental positivity, even if they played like 1970's Brazil, their fans will always be Obsessed parochial windowlickers. Merry Christmas.

Gus Poyet would be a disaster for them to be honest. Avram Grant could go one of two ways, he's a decent manager at best and surely not a long term option.

This is the biggest myth in football.

Martinez was a very lucky choice and a superb manager helped by Swansea having an excellent European scout and not having to pay for their stadium and having their debts written off . Sousa was sacked as a boring ultra defensive failure. Rogers was decent and backed in a gamble for promotion with Sinclair and Borini. Monk was poor/ average as their position shows. He was appointed because Jenkins thought he could manipulate him , and it has failed.

I think Rodgers was more than decent for them and you can't describe Martinez as being a lucky appointment. Both managers went on to bigger and better things after Swansea, both managed in Europe after Swansea with two very big premier league clubs.

Of course Martinez was lucky. It was a gamble to go for a man with no experience.

He could easily have blown it.

The gamble paid off and he's gone on to become one of the best managers in the country.
The rest after him had it in a plate thanks to Martinez and the system and coaching team he put in place.

Rogers was the main beneficiary, just added a couple of decent attacking players to make them a good team.

Don't forget he was a total failure at Reading and once Suarez - by far the best player in the Prem when he took over- left he didn't have a clue... Balotelli  .

Of course I forgot Laudrup who had great contacts and through his name brought good players in, but it looked like he couldn't be arsed and clearly didn't have any respect for the chairman. Monk had the benefit of the decent players who followed Laudrup to the club. He only had to get them fighting for the club. Since then he seems to have tinkered too much and IMHO got a bit unlucky to be sacked so early.

Laudrup, Sousa and Monk lasted what, 4 seasons between them.

How the f**k was Mattinez lucky?

He took them from league two to the championship and it's his blueprint that Huw has continued with.

I hate the Jacks but what they have done and the way they've done it is envious.

Lawnmower said it was a lucky appointment which I agree with. It could have gone horribly wrong as he has no experience. Fortunately for them it worked out and he laid foundations for success.

Did you read past the first 6 words ?
Martinez was a lucky appointment as he was a massive gamble.
One that came off handsomely and has benefitted them ever since.

A lot of his players are now coming to the end of their careers or not what they were, or have left- the ones that are left, Britton, Rangel, Williams aren't what they were or in some cases are peripheral or not wanted , like Dyer and so his influence is reducing.

You then made out he was lucky he was given the job just because he had no experience.

They were mid table in league one (my bad earlier it was Jackett who took them up to L1) then they parted company with Jackett it was hardly a massive gamble

I don't see how it's classed as lucky when they done their research, went after Martinez, liked what Martinez had to say, and he was their preferred candidate. Does that mean any successful side are "lucky" because they've recruited well??!?

Like it or not Huw Jenkins is one of the best chairmen in the game. It's not down to 'luck" the success they've enjoyed this last decade.

You are lucky Roathy isn't on here he'd have a field day with you.
