Re: My assessment on Slade so far

I appreciate that everyone on here is free to express their opinion about our team but surely we want them to do well and at this early stage they are doing very well.
All true fans support their team come what may, in the bad times as well as the good. For better or for worse Russell Slade is the manager and so far he has done a remarkable job sorting out the mess we were in.We are playing it out from the back and have a system the team look comfortable with.
Yesterday we had 2 clear chances in the first 9 minutes which if we had converted one of them it would have been a more comfortable win, the longer the game went on Huddersfield grew in confidence.
It is a fact that we have about 13000/ 14000 true fans and the rest are fair weather supporters but we do need them back and results will do that.
Russell Slade deserves our support because he is building a team who want to play for the shirt and has the potential to be a top six contender.

Watched the first 5 games highlights on City Player. Will watch this one when I can. After all, my assessment is based on results. This is a results business and thats what I care about. I don't care about losing 4-3 whilst playing fancy football. Only results matter as results are what take you up. If we have to go up the more boring Malky way then so be it. And no, I don't go to games. I live on the other side of Europe so it'd cost me a few hundred quid each time to attend a game and whilst I do enjoy football, I don't enjoy it to the extent that I will put myself a few hundred quid out of pocket to watch a game.

You didn't attend before you moved to Eastern Europe! You should be working for Mourinho at Chelsea as an analyst if you can draw the conclusions you have about our playing style and defensive organisation and fortitude from 5 game highlights.

1) He has made us incredibly difficult to beat
2) The squad appears to be very organised
3) The brand of football isn't exciting but its effective
4) He has galvanised the squad to levels not seen since Malky Mackay left
5) We have picked up 12 from 18 so far - 66% of points - which is excellent considering the fixtures
6) He has not splashed silly money and has also brought in young players with potential - low risk with potential high reward
7) He has also done this with many people writing him off early on - credit where it is due
8) He has gotten rid of players who don't want to play for the shirt or club - i.e. deadwood

For me, I have to give him a 9/10 so far. He has been only slightly short of exceptional so far. So far he has impressed me in multiple areas greatly, even more so when I take a more objective look and realise this is a manager still realistically earning his stripes at this level as its a step up. He has proved my initial opinions wrong and long may it continue!

Make this a regular feature BB's Slade assessment over each 6 game period :!:

In fairness BB is allowed an opinion and he has put together a pretty good one (IMO) from watching edited highlights.

I question the methods of victory. With McKay the football was in hindsight very direct, and boring, but the results came. What i'm getting at is that substance over style has been witnessed by City fans before, now this new incarnation of substance over style is not that enticing for the paying public as it was the first time round.

Remember, we had 4 years of DJ where we now appreciate more for the entertainment value, MM brought the winning mentality and the fans were happy to trade some entertainment for results. The buzz is not there for Slade, but to his credit, he seems to have got the winning mentality at the club back after Ole who devastated the confidence of players

I thought you stopped supporting city and started supporting galatasaray?

Good points Thomas. The moan about Jones was he couldn't get us over that finishing line and ultimately that is why MM was more successful with a less entertaining team.

Your point about looking back on the Jones years is a very good one. We never quite knew what was going to happen next and the brand of football was amazing at times. Still hard to fathom out how a miserable sod like that managed to get his players to produce excellent football, but it did happen.

Dave Jones' demeanour compared to the flamboyancy his team had were polar opposites

I don't know the answer to the attendances being very low under Slade, it's a very subjective topic all based on opinion. Mine is a theory based upon my own feeling that the entertainment has been lacking for too long now and it's having an adverse effect even regardless of Slade's positive results!

MM benefited taking over from from DJ's swashbuckling style of play which I believe got City fans totally in love with football and the club. Hence, a very loyal supporter base. :ayatollah:

Your opinion has changed quite dramatically in two games.

Hahaha pre season he'd stopped supporting cardiff and become a galatasaray fan.

This guy don't know weather it's shrove Tuesday or Sheffield Wednesday.

Can't debate the post at hand so instead resort to attacking me as a person. All I hope is that at your ages I've got something better to do than talk about blokes in their 20's. What sad lives you must lead. Like a bunch of women gossiping in hairdressers.
