He is 33, he was one of La Ligas top scorers when he joined us so I don't think he joined us for anything other than money and who would blame him, its one last pay off before he probably retires.

Would I take a pay cut at his stage in his career, god no.

Would you sit in reserves and just vegetate until contract expires? So its all about Money in essence! Not his fault but at same time not eager to leave is he, we don't see any clubs taking him? may enquire about him but guess demands to high?

If I was a footballer aged 33 yes without a doubt, footballers have a short career so need to make as much as they can while they play. I don't blame him at all for claiming the wage he was offered. He keeps training and has kept himself fit, its the clubs choice not to play him but they then cant expect him to take a wage cut because of it.

Yes I would think his wages are to high, we signed him on a free as one of the top La Liga scorers while in the prem (well offered the contract in the prem). I doubt anyone would want to match that now.

No don't blame him but it's his choice at end of day! But what I don't get is he doesn't look like getting club because of high wages club doesn't want him, so he is not going to get lucrative deal at age of 34 when out of contract is he? So lose out ultimately anyway. :old:

How would benefit Cardiff to pay Guerra his contract in full, allowing him to leave and get another contract elsewhere as a 33 year old. He gets paid twice.

That's just pure greed and would be stupid for Cardiff to pay him in full. Let him see out his contract and he will get one wage.

However he would likely benefit financially if he took a deal from Cardiff.

If we paid him, say 70% of his remaining contract, does he think he will struggle to get a contract that will be anything beyond the remaining 30% of his current contract ?

Either he believes he is not wanted elsewhere, or his own value is no more than the difference between his contract in full and what City are wanting to pay.

Surely if we paid him IRO 70 - 80% of his contract, then he would be able to get a deal elsewhere where he benefits overall for the remainder of his present contract period, with the added benefit of getting a contract and showing what he can do on the pitch elsewhere.

It puts him in the shop window for a contract beyond his present contract period, whereas his value staying here for the remainder of his contract means he will be less likely to get a decent contract when he leaves.

He and his agent are trying to wing it and I think City are acting appropriately.

Have to agree with the club on this one.

Why should they pay the contract in full when the player does not want to keep up their side of it.

The FA allows players to cancel their contracts by providing the club with compensation (for the player not meeting their side of the contract) so if he's that desperate to leave then he should pay up.

It is though aint it I mean look how many players we signed up under malky and ole that never played for them and let go for nothing more or less or payed up to go. Does make you wonder who's signing such players when the manager dont rate them obviously or they would be playing weekly surely
